Something I've been pondering of late.
There are some songs that didn't really appeal to me when I heard them on the albums, but hearing them live opened up a whole new dimension and changed the way I respond to the album version, too.
For me, the biggest change was the first time I heard them play High. When I'd heard it previously, it seemed kind of boring (which I cannot even believe I'm saying, now!), but when they played it at the 30th Anniversary Gig in London I was transfixed, and have loved that song ever since.
Another one, for me, was Drummy B. Didn't think that much of it til I heard it live, and it's grabbed me by the heartstrings ever since.
Also, there's the opposite - songs that are amazing on the album but just don't have the same impact when played live. With a band like NMA, I can't think of any, but I have experienced it with other favourite artists.
Interested to see what people think!

I have to agree with you about High never really noticed it before I heard it live at my first NMA concert in 2011, but it got stuck in my head that night and I have loved it ever since. Another song from that night which I had never heard before but now really like was Rumour and rapture. (I think its only on the BD3 E.P. which I didn't own at the time).

I'll throw in Aimless Desire.Didn't like it much on the album but thought it was much better live.Still don't like it much on the album!
-
For me, Horsemen. Live and loud I think it is a very powerful song.
-
IMO, 'Mambo Queen...'
On the album, it sounded like a standard, filler kind of rock track...
Live... bloody great.

Believe it or not, Wonderful Way to Go. On the album, it didn't grab me but then seeing it live, wow.
Now I love that song.

Rumour and Rapture live is on
Freeborn John live - Rev Hammer (cd and dvd, Beautiful Days Festival 2005)
:-)

Believe It - thought the album track was a bit lame really. Think the despair and pain translates much better live. Can't remember the last time I listened to it off LOHC cd.

Lean Back and Fall
Studio: *yaaaawn* :P
Live: *who-hoooooo* :o ;D :o
Also, No Pain on Big Guitars beats the studio version BY FAR!

125 MPH - At first, I heard a live version which didn't make a big affection on me. I still think the studio version is better.
Ghost of Your Father, along with Knife are songs that I'd like to hear live some day if I could get better into them somehow.

Never really liked " one of the chosen" then heard it played live and was blown away!
Same thing happened with " I need more time" on the last tour
NMA really have to be seen live to fully appreciate their songs.

NMA are a live band, every song played live is good and better than the studio version.
All songs played live seem to have evolved and grown and take on a new twist and seeing every word sung with such passion and a hundred other emotions always gets me.
Favorite tracks live all of them :)

I think I probably do too !
Except for the songs that can't/won't be translated live. Guessing that Qasr El Nil Bridge is one of these.

Red Earth, Bloodsports, Dawn....always skipped em. Til I heard em live. Now I think Dawn and Red Earth are easily among my favourites
-
I've always disliked the song inheritance it was the first nma that didn't do for me and to be honest still don't like the t&c version.
All was forgiven when they played it live on the eight tour ( i think) don't mind the live acoustic version on big guitars in little Europe

INHERITANCE is always great live on the rare occasions when the lads play it...I'd love to hear it on the April tour...

Remember that happening when I went to see xmal Deutschland back in the day at the Hac in Manc and an aimless album track suddenly became a new favourite - it's the power of live music
