A topic for people to pass on pearls of wisdom that we picked up from experience.
My advice to all,as you get older keep and eye on your Moles, beauty spots, whatever you like to call them . Skin cancer more a concern for those with light skin, and a lot of Moles on their body, particularly if you have for example, more than 20 on your upper arm. Moles come in various shades and sizes, but tend to be neat and round, sometimes oval. If you find one that has an uneven edge, like a splodge and has an outside line of pink or red, and tend to itch, go and show your doctor immediately, it maybe malignant. If it is, and you ignore it, the Cancer will grow, and then start sending cells around the body, usually starting in the glands in your groin. Caught early, it can be dealt with. Skin cancer for obvious reasons the easiest to remove from the body. You do not have to have been a big sun bather in the past, it can be genetic, or just plain old bad luck.
All of this has happened to my wife recently. She had the described Mole. Went to the Doctor who removed it. Sent it off for testing, and it was malignant. She then had to go to hospital to have a larger area of skin removed, and a full check over. Thankfully, it was found in time, found early, and has not spread anywhere else. She will have to have several follow up appointments, She has taken it all quite well. For me the very idea that my wife has had cancer has been a real scare.
Check yourselves, and check your partner. After all, no one can examine their backs very well.
What good advice do you have to pass on ?

Bloody hell, Shush, so sorry to hear it. I only met your lady once, please send her my best and here's to Nottingham in December. Hope the follow-up appointments go well.
Personally, I've never been a sun-worshipper. These last few days of sweaty annoyance really get on my tits. Never understood these folks who go abroad and boast about 'Oh, it was 80 degrees in the shade...' As Bill Hicks once said, 'what are you, a ******* lizard...' :(
My advice, especially to young folks? You're gonna run into some pretty awful people who might be described as '******* arseholes'. You will figure it out very quickly but possibly talk yourself out of it because you're trying to be 'nice'. Trust your inner judgement. You know people better than you think you do. That doesn't mean that you have to punch them or anything like that, just use them as they are doubtlessly using you. Again, trust your inner judgement and be faithful to yourself.
IMO, anyway...

My brother once told me that "Life is short; don't be a dick", and I think that sums things up pretty nicely.

The greatest advice i can give from experience is to be yourself and not care what others think about you. Sadly I almost never take this advice.
Another piece of advice is be very careful of who you trust. You can't trust most people but if you get to know someone well then, you could trust them if it feels safe.
-
never confuse greed and opportunism with hunger and desire
and the spoken word can never be retracted - be careful what you say
-
Don't eat yellow snow
Don't drink on a empty stomach
Seriously though Always be yourself never conform to what others think.
Always show respect to others until they show that they don't deserve it.
Live life by the pagan rules of karma ie bad things will come back on you times 3
Try and speak up for what you believe in
Listen to nma as often as you and wear all your merchandise with pride

Never believe gossip or rumors. You could miss out on knowing some great people if you get to know them based on the words of others.
-
You'll know yourself better than anyone else ever will so do what you think is right for you.
and to borrow advice from someone "Dont vote. It just encourages them" 8)

Don't argue with anyone with fascist views online. They will never listen to reason and get slightly mean.
-
Never surrender! Even in the face of oblivion.
also:
Question everything, and trust your instincts until theyre proved wrong....just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
@Shush: i had a mole removed when i was a kid and have had them checked regularly until now when i'm long overdue. so thanks for that reminder, and i wish you and your missus the best of health from now on.

Thanks Whizzkid. Ange did have several out patient appointments afterwards and was eventually given the all-clear with me given the job of checking now and again. I still stand by the original post, keep an eye on your moles for any changes, it might just save your life. -and if in a relationship, your partner cannot check their own back - do it for them and visa versa ;)

Do art and culture. Due to some investigations f.e. singing in a choir, playing an instrument, making fine art and going to exhibitions affects to your well being and body, and makes you happier.

Look after your back. Ive just had my third spinal op at the age of 42.
Feeling more like 62, your whole body movement is affected when your back is damaged. Please lift carefully. ;)

Oof. Bad shit right there, mate, wishing you a full recovery. Also got back problems, although not as serious as yours, obviously. It does take over your life, doesn't it?
