Title: Reactivate an old thread!
Post by: Master Ray on September 13, 2014, 11:17:24 PM
So, been rooting around on old and forgotten threads on this Forum, found a couple of new things I wanted to say...  ???

Why not do the same, guys, and keep things interesting and alive?

I gotta say, this Forum is quite lively at the moment and not just because of BWAB...

If you lot get time, please rummage around in those old threads and see if there's anything you fancy commenting on...

i reckon people are beginning to relaise that value of the good old forum instead of facebook and twitter. and so they come back here knowing that people will see their posts each time and reply if they want to. someone told me that on facebook only 4 to 6% of your friends see your activity

they have 1bn people on that thing

we have 20 in the everything else board and lots more in the whole forum

come on facebook, bring it to us................we're ready for ya

I like the forum a lot. In my mind it doesn't compete with Facebook. They are two different things. Facebook isn't really a discussion forum. More something to let the world know what you think without really being interested in what others think. That being said, I do find it useful for a lot of things just not for discussions.

Now, is this turning into a Facebook thread? :-)

i think you may have just turned it in to one johnz lol

i agree that facebook has uses, as does so many other of the social media platforms. and you are right, it struggles to make discussions work.

now back to re-activating threads

Well im not on facebook or twitter and never will be Its just not for me. Facebook seems to cause a lot of problems if you ask me I don't want people knowing by personal stuff i will tell who i want to know what i want them to know All this cyber friendship seems dangerous as well its like were losing the ability to communicate properly with each other.
Want to add why don't others start some new threads if it doesn't go far try again

I'm sure I've said this before but I'll go through it again...

Facebook is a lovely tool.  I got back in touch with several folks I thought the world of in the past.  I might never see some of them again (when you get to my age, a lot of people have scattered) but it's nice to have that little crumb of contact.  But they would never listen to NMA and would never understand me when I talk about some of the things that are important to me, lovely people though they are.  You people do.  And that is why, much as I appreciate Facebook for what it does, this Forum is far more important to me.  I've had so much advice / encouragement / support from people I've never met.   ;)

I won't give up Facebook.  I like it.  But I like the NMA forum more.

I am for this. FB has gone downhill as it not longer shows half of your friends post and nothing is in order. You have to basically read every friends profiles to even see half of the posts.

I like these forums because you don't know everyone real names and can not see their faces. it's sort of secretive.
I like the idea of nobody knowing exactly who i am and how i look. I am sure a few people do know my real identity but the others do not. Plus you can not unfriend or block which can cause issues and depending on who it is, it can really hurt. I am thankful that the whole friend request and possible rejection does not exist here.

I like forums and its "secretary" too, especially the ones that are centered on some main topic. With FB I wouldn't want to share all my interests with everyone; working mates, neighbours and friends whether they're old or new. With a forum where is some certain issue that people are devoted to it's possible to explore the thing further than just saying "I like this a lot".

However, despite that I've thought that I would still like to create an account to FB, because I could keep better in contact with my wife's generic and some very old friends from the past that I've seen only once in last 25 years. My wife's in FB and she like it a lot (and the Other Place). Preferably I'm going to join that too. :)

If you run a business/have something you want to let people know I can see the point of facebook  or if you're involved in some group/activity thing . Equally if your friends/family are away in the distance I can see the point of Facebook. Bit for the life of me I can't see the point of it for anything else. It feels like a bunch of kids waving their pin badge covered schoolbags around desperate to show how cool they are. Like! Like! Like! It's a digital scrapbook right? A place to put photos, mementos, souvenirs of your own personal moments. Those things are just that - personal so why chuck 'em up there for the world? And why should the world want to see them anyway? We have different sorts of relationships with different people from acquaintances who barely get to scratch the surface of who we are to those rare special people who pretty much know everything. I don't want everyone I know to know everything about me and I don't want to know everything about them. I guess I must be a girl out of time because I just don't feel that "sharing"

This place is different. We have a common interest in the best band in the world which we come here to talk about and find out whats going on. We also branch off into all sorts of stuff and nonsense between us all eventually producing the "gnarly old tree" that is the board. Along the way we gradually get to know each other a bit and find out each others lives a bit. That's nice. It feels real.

Anyway what you doing here 'ere reading this latest wordy IBS induced (that's Irritable Brain Syndrome) nonsense? You're supposed to be snuffling through the 20 pages of glory that is Everything Else. Go on- bugger off!  :-*

Well, that's perhaps some kind of flaw with the so called SoMe in general. I see what you mean very well, and actually think the same. But at some stage it's not people's fault about how they use the social media. Well of course they are responsible for what they write for sure. But it's the conventions and about following friends or something like that. The products we've been offered can't reach so easily all the available possibilities.  If I am honest,  I just recently bought a smartphone and try to get used with that. It's strange to see I'm actually sort of forced to use some certain products like Google and its attachments more than I am used to normally. Or even more than I would like to.

Before this I've wrote everything with a standalone pc and I've found out the possibilities of using tools are less; strict,  than what I would like to use. I have more often situations I'm not at the reach of computer. :/

But about the Facebook,  I did not do that. I created a Google+ profile. That suites me enough. And, well,  like it too.

I don't use social media for two main reasons I like to be a private person if i want someone to know something i will tell them face to face. Most people i know aren't into the same things that I'm into, they don't really get the alternative rock thing.

do forums count as social media?

I guess it could be. I like posting here because I'm among people with the same interests. I don't worry about who reads my posts, at least you probably have a good understanding of where I'm coming from. I don't need to worry about how many friends or followers i have.
