Title: where is the coolest place you have ever traveled?
Post by: Amandistan on September 29, 2014, 04:59:03 AM
For me it's probably Greece. It was the furthest from my culture than anywhere else i have been. When i was there the city center of Athens was blocked due to anti-fascist, fascist and anarchist protests happening all at once. You can tell the economy is not so good due to the number of homeless people. I really enjoyed speaking to the locals, the food, history, architecture and the culture altogether.
I also really liked the part of Germany in which i visited. I am traveling there again tomorrow so will get to see more of it. I am really thankful that the opportunity to travel has come to me yet again.

What about you?
I look forward to hearing all replies and apologies if i post too many topics.

Ascension Island, without a doubt.

Did my mapping campain for my Master thesis there (in Volcanology) and stayed for 2 months.

This place has a really special feeling to it.

It is really really beautiful, the feeling of having water around you for 1000 km in each direction, living on a 10x10 km big speck of earth. Beautiful skies in the night, catched a full moon eclipse by chance, all was light and all of a sudden dark and milky way emerged. A moment I will never forget in my whole life.

Wild donkeys following you around, trying to steal your food and even break into the kitchen over night. All these beautiful volcanic features. Turtles, sea birds.

On the other hand, all these wires, trying to catch all data from the air. A runway long enough to ground a space shuttle. Military buildings, all over the island.

Socially very interesting too - no permanent residents are allowed, so everybody just "spends their time" there. Nobody really is at home there and take any steps to make something beautiful out of their houses, for instance. No crops. You´ll have to wait for fresh food when the ship comes every three weeks. Drinking water comes from Devon, by aircraft.

One guy, from St. Helena ("Saints"), living there for 40 years but can´t wait to get to St. Helena, home, once he is retired.

Such an ambivalent place. Would love to go back there at some point in my life.

Easily Thailand I was there in 2009 & 2010 . My friend and former Business Partner moved there in 2008 and he told me to come a year later. I had one of the best times ever. As to describe the details well if you know about Thailand then I really don't have to add anything except to say whatever you heard it's more than likely True ;D ;) 8)

In 2nd place is Amsterdam Netherlands . I went there in 2004 for my birthday to see if all the stuff I heard about it was true and it was. ;D ;) 8)
