Title: Simple Task: Name Best Song On Each Album
Post by: Space on January 17, 2015, 06:15:07 PM
OK, let's see who has ears and brains here.
No indecisiveness, just name the one best song on each album (just studio albums, not the live stuff).

Vengeance - "Spirit Of The Falklands"
No Rest - "Frightened"
Ghost Of Cain - "Western Dream"
Thunder - "225"
Impurity - "Space"

Hopeless Causes - "Here Comes The War"
Strange Brotherhood - "Long Goodbye"
Eight - "You Weren't There"
Carnival - ?
High - "Wired"
Good Day - ?

Dog and Wolf - "Seven Times"
Wine and Blood - I have only been listening to live CD, haven't got to the studio tracks yet

Explanation: Carnival and Good Day I have answered with a ? because I disliked those two albums and never really got into them enough to find a great track. I will eventually put proper effort into those albums and see what I can find.

Your turn now.
One best song from each lp.

Sigh...

Space don't be starting with this ears and brains thing followed by ANY insults at all because it will end very swiftly.

Everyone else keep it all classy and don't be pressing that return button before you consider.

I am a patient man, but...

I think its a reasonable idea but won't be posting due to the fact who started the post.
Don't you think that you owe Anna and Amanda a grovelling apology and probably the rest of us for that matter

I'm awfully embarrassed  :-[ . I realised that I told a big fat fib  :(

In my post I said that I'd chosen a song from every album I owned but I'm really sorry, I forgot the Live Albums. What an idiot   ::)

So here's choices from the live albums I own too:

Radio Sessions – 83-84 – Frightened
Raw Melody Men – Lurhstaap
… And Nobody Else CD 1 – No Sense
… And Nobody Else CD 2 – No Pain
**** Texas Sing For Us – Bloodsports
Between Wine And Blood – Live CD – Stormclouds

the albums that challenge me most for best song are eight, thunder and consolation, and the love of hopeless causes

That's a very interesting thought there Heno. There's albums where I too am challenged to pick a Best song. I will ponder that and no doubt come back with some more words soon.

Night y'all, Sweet Dreams

NMNS
See you in hell
Guessing
Bad Old World

I don't know if they are the best four songs to lead of any album ever, but no doubt the first four tracks on EIGHT are a great beginning to any album. Very, very strong songs. Unfortunately, the rest of that album can't compete with those opening four tunes. "Paekakariki Beach" is the best song after those opening four. That "wheeling....turning...circling...flying" refrain is pure magic.

yeah, snelsmore wood stands out too. that said it is one of those albums by anyone that i can listen to from start to finish

other album that has such a stunning start is the love of hopeless causes. like who would expect fate after here comes the war.  and then follow up with living the rose and white light

crying out in fury to the gods of fate.....................come on and get me if you can

fuckers

We're crying out in our pride to the gods of fate
Come on and get us if you can

Morning  :)

If only you could all see how red in the face I am. It came to me in my sleep last night that I have also made an unwarranted claim to greatness. Harking back to the sound of my own voice again, in my first post. I said I was an NMA geek but I forgot about singles, ep's, 12” and the such like. Honestly, tut tut Anna. No doubt you all think I've been bigging myself up in a very arrogant fashion  :o

But then again the thread title says albums (but there all the different versions of albums, compilations, imports etc.....) and I wouldn't want to take the discussion beyond any defined parameters. I'm just all at sixes and sevens. I'm such a ditzy broad. I just don't understand this internet manners business. However if talk doesn't evolve we're just sat here listening to our own voices and not learning from what anyone else has to offer a debate. I don't know it's so confusing.  ???

Just In case though, Heno – still pondering your interesting development of this thread. The hows and whys of what makes for a “best” song is fascinating. Feels like there is a dissertation in that. Better fill the kettle up and buy a packet of biscuits my friend, you might need them.

Enjoy your Sunday everybody, hope its sunny and full of blue sky (warmth is probably a bit much to hope for) – I'm off to Archery, talk to you all later.

 :-*

The only person who got permanently banned from the NMA Forum TWICE!   ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I mean, you have to go some way to get even mildly told off by Viv (the most moderate of Moderators!)...   ;)

But, hey, that damn fool is long gone and it's a perfectly acceptable thing to ponder on, so if newer members who don't remember those days might want to throw in their opinion, fine by me!

I'm all for people being argumentative, opinionated and awkward but it's about intent, Space/whirlwind had an agenda and was out for trouble with "decent" people, keeping him on here was ultimately a pyrrhic victory for free speech and there are a fair few people who don't frequent this forum much anymore due to it I would bet, it was trolling and there are laws developing against such things now. Only thing I would say is that this forum can be abit to much of an echo chamber sometimes though, also it wouldn't suprise me if Space turns up again in some disguise or other if he hasn't already.

I wasn't aware he was banned ! *sound of champagne cork*

it was trolling and there are laws developing against such things now.

"No Police, no summous, no courts of law
No proper procedure, no rules of war
No mitigating circumstance
No lawyers fees, no second chance"

but in internet days, hunting an asshole is harder than it used to be ;)
