Here in America we are all rich and decadent so when our daughters celebrate their Sweet 16th birthday, we pay Katy Perry or Rhianna to come to the party, pay them to act as though they are our daughters' best friends, and then have them perform a five set song.
Well, I am probably correct in assuming that more at this forum are approaching 50 than 16, so let's imagine...New Model Army were hired by your loved ones to play a five song set in your home. Now considering that the 50th is a time for nostalgia and reflection, what five tunes would you love to hear the band play at your 50th party. Doesn't have to be a best of, just what five songs would fit the feel of the event and make you most happy to hear?
Full band, electric, acoustic, whatever you want.
My set list for New Model Army at my 50th birthday bash would be:
1. "Space"
2. "Seven Times"
3. "These Words"
4. "Better Than Them"
5. "I Wish"
Killer songs, reflective songs, some of my faves. Perfect set list for the band to play in my home for the 50th.

Would be quite happy to have Justin Sullivan and his guitar play these five songs
1. Green and Grey
2. These Words
3. Brave New World 2
4. Marrakesh
5. Dawn

Don't reckon all five and road crew would fit in our lounge however perhaps we can turn the garden into a mosh pit

Dawn
Red Earth

Sunset
Blue Ship
Then Id go all Kathy Bates out of Misery. ;D
Genuinely though cant say I like the idea even hypothetically. Cant stand being the centre of attention and it sounds a bit pub singer/cruise ship entertainment. Certainly would hate anyone pretending to be my friend. Forgot I added my list already so added this in reflection.

Another brilliantly simple thread :) Imagine your favourite band playing in your house for you and all your friends and family

The Hunt (Full on version not the slower moody version)

Mind you, at 50 probably have to have a sit down after the first song ;D

My 5 in no particular order would be

One of the Chosen
Angry Planet

I was 16 ten years ago so I am actually closer to 16 than 50. I sadly doubt the band will be around that long.

When I was a ridiculous young dude I had a similar idea and I had a dream about booking Bill Laswell on my 50th. Well, I think he'd probably has much more interesting projects going on than to fly here to see me and my friends drunk like hell in the midst of freezing hell and having a barbeque. ::)
