................there were no bullies and psychopaths. they are the same thing you know. they feed off people's vulnerability. vulnerability and the reaction of their victims that is. it is so sad.
and it amazes me always just how acceptable or tolerated they are
sometimes i think maybe understanding people and spending time with them is the only way you know them. like you do with family.
and sometimes i feel claustrophobic and i hate it.
i am amzed that there are no perma bans here. amazed does not do it justice. and having some dope cyberbullying over the remains of newmodelarmy.org is a most disgusting thought.

OK here's the problem:
One member of the board posts a very stupid thread which insults some other members. In response, the other members wage a campaign believing their cause to be truly just which descends into some astonishingly nasty posts and comments. It is concerted and continous and waged against one person. This, like it or not, is the definition of bullying. This board, and the rules on the board, are for everyone not the few. If I were to ban the first member, which seems to be the over-whelming call, then surely I have to ban the other members that waged the bitter and hate filled campaign against him because they are equally complicit in the mess that has descended on here. One rule for all.
It is an interesting problem is it not? I don't like banning people, it's not my cup of tea. I much prefer everyone to act like adults and work their problems out with maturity instead of insults, slurs and bullying. Sadly, I don't see any danger of that actually happening at the moment.
One day, if we all tried, maybe we could have a board that we're all proud of. Maybe we could try peace, reconcilliation and tolerance for a change. Maybe we should give it a go - and for no other reason than simply because the other way really isn't working at all. What do you reckon?

I totally understand where you are coming from as you know I'm guilty of some of the replies to the original poster with the strange threads.
I accepted the warning I received, which I hasten to add was correct, so maybe a change in the rules of the forum that prohibit stupid, meaningless and insulting thread subject matters so we don't take the bait and reply how we seem fit even though we then become as guilty as the original poster.
I don't want a ban and to be honest don't want to see other forum members get a ban.
Yes, we're all human and are allowed to have our own point of view and beliefs but this OUR forum so WE should look after it and maintain our integrity.
If someone says something we don't agree with we can still comment but let's be nice about it if at all possible :) :)

I don't want to see anyone get banned either, everyone has the right to a opinion. Things seemed to be settling down. Some posts and threads have been or became ridiculous and something meaningful has ended in farce. I've already apologized for my part.
Lets all play our part in steering the forum in calmer waters. Show your pride in nma and the forum. Freedom !

firing back as much abuse as you receive is not as bad, but very much nearly as bad, as the person who posted the first antagonistic content
and i think from time to time many of us have benefited from an equally open and lenient penal system
i tend to look at the world of newmodelarmy.org as a four level house. i clearly live the in basement. and i am going to learn to stay here since every time i go up to New Model Army floor or others i get the head staggers and nose bleeds for numerous differing reasons.
not feeding the troll doesn't work here since we can all be guilty of reacting to provcative posting even though we know its intention.
i don't think i will ever be friends with the bloke. there is a super feature on the only other forum i visit called "ignore". it allow you to put a person on your ignore list and it blanks their posts. i would welcome a feature like for people who feel they have to look.
anyway. thank vivien savage. your commitment to fairness is beyond anything any could expect.
i rest assured in the knowledge if someone does post provocatively and no one responds in kind then chances are that the provocateur will stand out as a candidate for a ban.

In his defense, he has to be fair. Fairness would mean banning a lot of people as opposed to just once.

To be fair Bever, and speaking as one of the people who has been involved in this farce, I think it is more a case of the moderator wanting to protect the image of this board. I agree, having spoken via p/m to many of the other people, it can appear at times that Viv is being protective of Space. On the other hand, one of the most scathing attacks on Space was from Viv some weeks ago. This tit for tat exchange of comments could go on forever. Viv is trying to stop it now. Not to protect Space, but to protect the image of this board, and therefore the image of the band in general. We have recently often compared the board and how you would behave here as if being in a room or pub together and should treat people on-line as you would in person, or pass comments about the band as if they were in the room with you. All good, but we have to remember, if it were such, it is not a private pub. Anyone who decided to show an interest in this band could be looking here for the first time at any time. It does not look good if the first few posts they look at are petty squabbles and name calling. A potential new fan may decide it is better not to go further, also, I am sure music journalist may look here from time to time when researching the band for an article. People, myself included may have thought they are defending NMA from some of Space's challenging comments about the music, but in doing so are only really helping to tarnish the bands image by retaliating with similar misguided nonsense. That's how I see it now and intend to keep out of it.
