For one reason or another I ended up popping this cd in the drive tonight.................
This really is bloody brilliant. I'd forgotten just how good it is. Probably because these gigs were so long ago now. I seem to remember that it won't happen again because of the damage done to Mr Dean's hands. But if it could be done again how good would that be? I'm sure that with the additional back catalogue a similar set up would ensure a pretty awesome gig run.
To nick a phrase from Master Ray - "Just saying............"

TOTR is as awesome as an awesome thing climbing Mount Awesome, getting to the top and shouting 'THIS IS ******* AWESOME!!!!'
;D

Ooh, I haven't listened to that for quite a while. I must rectify that soon.
Anna - what happened to Michael's hands ? I'm not aware of that.

Completely agree. It's on a much higher level of awesomeness. Definitely my favourite live album. It gives a different take to the sound without the full band. Not saying better, but as its different it makes it worth a listen. Not played for a while, but I will attend to that error soon ;)

That said, " Big Guitars in Little Europe" is up there with it also -- you know on that top level higher plain above awesome 8)

Generally speaking my memory is not that reliable ............ ;D but I think I remember reading in an interview that hitting the drums with his hands night after night caused rather a lot of pain and he swore he'd never do it again. Like I say though - I wouldn't swear that's true !

I owe you one Anna. After this topic, I got round to listening to it today for the first time in a long time, and you are right. Bloody superb. Afternoon Song and Drummy B stood out particularly well this time around. And of coarse the Doors tribute version of 225.
Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder ;)

I don't mean to veer too OT here. I love TOTR too and play it all the time. Oddly the NMA-related album I play is Justin Sullivan's solo album. Not that there's anything wrong with it - exactly the opposite. It's such a beautiful and immersive album that I can only listen to it with my full attention and the certainty I won't be interrupted. It reminds me of Rock Bottom by Robert Wyatt, but then I'm weird

Unruh, if that's weird, who the hell here wants to be 'normal'? :D

For anyone interested, the source of that video is the Justin Sullivan & Friends DVD, which is still available in the shop:

Ah! I wondered where it came from - even checked my CD to make sure I hadn't had a total brain fart ;D Must admit that DVD had totally escaped my attention. One for when the penny jar is full :)

This is brilliant. I had a chance to see one of the gigs. So intimate and so powerful at the same time. This is also a sign of times, "Masters of War" with such clear conotation, questions about Germany and all that spirit. Nonetheless, Justin said that the tour "JS & Friends" without Nelson was one of the reasons he left NMA. But it ends well eventually ... ;)

Great to see JS and DW doing some solo shows tho sadly in euro land, be great to hv an acoustic tour even if it's a mini one in hometown street

Wouldn't it just :)

Love Tales Of The Road, saw the show at Georgian Theatre, Stockon. Still one of my favourite gigs. :)
