Firstly, this is not a judgemental or accusing thing... if people want to read this Forum but not contribute, then I'm totally OK with that, and I'm sure all us regulars will agree, respect to you and all of that...
I'm just a bit curious as to why...
I see a lot of names reading here who have chipped in a few times in the past but don't post nowadays... obviously, you lot are passionate about the band, otherwise you wouldn't bother to go through the registration process with VS...
Is there something bothering you about the Forum these days? Are us regulars annoying you in some way? Is there something seriously wrong here? Genuinely interested in this and any responses you might have...
So, er... ???

Mmm interesting point , not sure that I really want to know the answer lol
Maybe its because nma haven't brought out new material this year, no one has commented on wine and blood for a while, the band have only done a few gigs other than the festivals that maybe most of us on here don't go to.
Maybe things will liven up once the October tour starts and we head into the Xmas shows having watched the documentary on dvd
Maybe everyone is enjoying this wonderful summer weather lol maybe everyone thinks I'm a boring ( use your own punch line)

Yes, Pol, thinking about it, it's probably all your fault... ;)
Just thought this Forum has been a bit quiet of late and I do enjoy talking to folks here, the more the merrier...
-
i'm kind of not posting often though i have an opinion about the thread but feel a bit lazy struggling with just opinions
and then there is this thing, that when i do write something really often no one replys to it or takes the thought and i feel kinda overlooked and think to myself why bother?
at the moment i'travelling through iceland and have limited inet access or i would have posted more on the greek thread
-
Ther are some great folks here with interesting things to say. There are also strong opinions voiced; which is fine, but I think you've got to be tough-minded to join in debates. So maybe that's why people like to read but not post?
Me? I like the light-hearted stuff unless I really know what I'm talking about for a debate.
Just a thought?

Some fine, interesting and fair responses here!
Again, this is just something I'm curious about, I don't regard myself as some big judge of peoples activities or anything!

That's a shame and I can understand why you would think why bother? :(
I'm curious
Did nobody ever tell you about what happened to the Cat ................. :D
I think you've got to be tough-minded to join in debates.
or just plain bloody-minded ! More seriously just take everything with a pinch of salt, it very rarely gets personal after all opinions are like arseholes: we've all got one ;)

i'm more lurker these days
only because time is limited and i often feel that many of the threads are meaningful and deserve more time than i have at the moment.

This. Thanks for putting it in words, cthulu ☺

Makes me feel sad, reading this. I'm new to this forum, but sorry that you both feel overlooked x
-
Also sad to hear this, cthulhu, apologies if I've not been back to you... hope you try again.
EDIT - also for Ana. Sorry if you haven't had the best experience here... hope we can do better.

Hi Master Ray. Been a long time lurker, I have posted very occasionally over the years.
As to why I don't post more often, a good question! Guess it's the same reason I rarely post else where on the web. I come here mainly for info & rarely feel I have much to add to the topics that people would be interested in.
-
I need more time...... Ive been absent for a few weeks cos I dont have time to post my drivel as often. However Im gonna try and remedy that.
-
no need to feel sad about what i wrote! its not about my emotions as much as it is about the difficulties of a discussion when your point is not addressed. i like a rote faden as we say in germany its when things cling together and are tied and not fragmented. but that again has to do with the inet physics
-
Ok Cthultu if I'm understanding you right................ :-\
A direct response to a post doesn't always happen. But perhaps points made by any of us are picked up in the general conversation around a thread? Sometimes we need to "interpret"what is posted and maybe this is easier if we are using the same native language and familiar with everyday usage? Could it be that what any of us pick up from a post depends on something like that and sometimes it can get missed? I know that sometimes I don't get stuff other members post and sure as hell they sometimes don't get my waffle ;D I have made a few assumptions here - inet physics I'm guessing means how this weird digital communication stuff works !
This is a genuine post attempting to understand where another member is coming from and how they see things - it's not an aggressive thing at all. Believe me I'm all for as much understanding and communication between people as possible
:-*
-
I lurk a LOT more than I post these days. But it's like that everywhere with me on the web. I used to post regularly on a number of different forums, I was really active on Facebook, etc.
There's no real reason why I kinda just stopped though. I do miss the friendship I had built up with a lot of people over the years but for the most part, those people are always around (even though a lot of them have slowed down as well).
-
Good to know you are still out there Brian :)
I can empathise with the point raised by Ava and cthulu. In the past I have written long or heart felt posts expecting some sort of response and none have come. It can sometimes be disheartening but I suppose at the end of the day there are not that many active users of this forum posting regularly, and if those that do just do not have a reply or opinion on the matter, then that's that.
-
I just can't be arsed sometimes !
:D
I don't get involved with anything that is too complicated for my little head and I don't give a shit about who likes cheese and onion crisps or thinks Musical Youth are the best band in the world.
Better thing to worry about.
:)

Fair enough WW! :)

I must admit I'm a bit of a lurker. I don't really do Facebook, Twitter, or any chatty online stuff. Im always very interested in what the band and fans are up to,but i don't really know anybody. This is the only forum i have ever joined or commented on.

Myself, I've been a member of this and previous incarnations of this board since the late 90's, so a very long time. I used to post a lot more and over the years have been involved in many discussions and quite a few full blown arguments with a number of (almost invariably) rightwing individuals and/or trolls, one or two of which still resurface every now and then. HOWEVER, the main reason of me being here has always been keeping in touch with people I know in real life: I have no problem saying I'm not the most sociable person on the planet, generally speaking I don't talk to strangers in real life, so I don't see why I should do it on the internet.
So what's changed? In a word: Facebook. I don't mean the NMA page, I'm even less active there than I'm here. And of course I'm aware of all the shit things facebook is and does, but for all its faults it allows you to 'pick' the people you interact with (in my case almost invariably real-life friends or people I've at least met in person a couple of times) and talk to, and leave all those you don't like or have any interest talking to out.
It seems in the last few years quite a few of the old posters and people I actually see and meet up with at gigs have made the same choice as I have, we keep in touch, talk about various things, have our banter, organise meet ups etc. Some of them still post here sometimes, but like me less and less often, and of course there are a couple of the current regular posters here I have met in real life but are not on fb, but not that many at present, so while I still like coming back and reading posts every now and then, I don't tend to be very active anymore, and I don't expect things to change anytime soon.
-
Aye, I think that you've pretty much summed up my reasons Danny. If I'm honest, while pleased that it's still here, I'm actually very surprised that this forum still exists considering how many have closed over recent years. Particularly considering the vastly reduced number of folk who now use it (and I'm assuming that the band pay to maintain its upkeep)...
-
I've used the forum in its various incarnations back to the late 90s threaded thing that used to scroll down the screen for miles. I do look at it once every couple of days but often just have a quick scan in each category and don't open that many threads. There's no particular reason. It's always ebbed and flowed and had flare ups of aggro and then quieter periods, so there's nothing that's put me off as such. Perhaps I've just got a bit more going on now and so discussions that I might have read more of or joined in with, I just leave alone.
I'm also on the unofficial FB NMA group but I treat it similar to this forum. I have it hidden so that it doesn't constantly come up on my news feed and I just have a look at it when I fancy.
Most names I know on here, I also know in real life from tours and festivals. Most of the people I travel with for NMA gigs don't really use the forum much if at all and so we just sort practicalities out using phone and email.
