Title: The kindness of Strangers
Post by: Amandistan on November 03, 2015, 03:52:19 PM
As humans we tend to often remember the bad things others do to us. The news seems to enjoy reporting the bad and half true yet not simple acts of kindness.

Do you have any stories of when a total stranger helped you or showed kindness?

As a long term traveler, I have quite a few.

The place where i experienced the most welcome and immense kindness is Turkey.
People invite you into their homes and give you tea and sweet things. An older couple did to me and they gave me handmade jewelry. They want nothing in return

Today a man bought me several drinks and coffees. He walked me to the bus then.
I am not used to this sort of welcome. People seem to approach you and ask if you need help. In most places you must ask them.
The kindness of Turkish people goes beyond all i have ever experienced.  I guess it means venture further east.

mmm.......... guess people are selective. You got my ticket to the Caen gig in March for nothing but never said thank you. perhaps if I was Turkish?

Small acts of friendliness count more don't they, like dropping something in the street and someone picking it up for you.

I dont think you should point to just the east. People are generally kind everywhere. And you are right, the news only reports the bad stuff.

I once left my wallet in a supermarket in Portugal. I recovered it the next day, contents intact. I didn't expect that.

"It's always the kindness of strangers to wash away these sins
Because home is wherever they take you in"
