Despite lack of media coverage. Innocent people have died in Beirut. They also need out support.
Please lets not forget the people who died in Lebanon.
Muslim, Christian, Atheist, Jew... they are all people and do not deserve to be killed so brutally.
-
Completely agree A. But we generally concentrate more on those that are a) close and b) happened yesterday. The world is too big and too complex to see and comment on it all I think. :)
-
True. Sadly it happens too often lately. The world has gone mad.
Paris twice this year.
I think it may be that this sort of thing is more common in the middle east and sadly has become almost expected.
Paris is a shock and closer in culture therefore better understood.
Either way it's all terrible.

Sadly it seems the general public only has the attention span to mourn one tragedy.
for instance FB everyone changes their picture to the French flag nobody to Lebanese. There is an "I am okay" button for Paris but not for Beirut. Why does the media not care about people from the middle east or Africa?

Well we'll be mourning a lot more innocent people if the powers that be sanction an all out attack on Isis in Syria and Iraq as you appeared to be advocating in another thread!
I agree things need to be done but a knee jerk reaction isn't going to achieve anything!

Agreed.
As for the topic of this thread: I, too, found it weird that there hasn't been more media coverage on Beirut.
I think it's only human that incidents that occur closer to us or that we, for whatever reason, can relate to, touch us more deeply than something happening further away. It makes sense, too - because if we were to feel devasted by every horrible tragedy happening in this world - we'd not be able to exists, we'd just go mad with grief and fear. It doesn't necessarily make us cold and heartless.

It is an attack on Islamic State. Not Syria and Iraq.
when i was a kid a terrorist group killed thousands of people in my country. We were terrified. we watched it at school.
Thousands not hundreds. This group would do the same.
If killing them means preventing another 9/11 then it has to be done. Two Paris attacks in one year. Turkey, Lebanon.
These people only understand violence. Do people really expect to defeat them and make the world safe by being peaceful?
Anyone kid from the west who joins IS is just an idiot. nobody has brainwashed them since birth. there is no excuse. They have to have some sort of brain damage going on are ergots evil. Many kids are bullied and not accepted, none decide to join a terror group. nor kill innocent people.
-
Hmmm, but another 9/11 hasn't been prevented, has it? O.k., it hasn't happened in exactly the same way, this is true - but there have been so many terrorist attacks since - so nothing has changed, really. It might even be argued that the situation has gotten worse.
Plus...I don't think that you can kill them all - and certainly not without killing other, innocent people. Which is actually what is happening at the moment.
"One of the chosen" - enough said.
-
I agree but am just so angry and saddened that i can't think logically about it.
Innocent people should not have to die because of extremists.
