Post by: Dawnrazer on November 15, 2015, 07:30:23 PM
Can anyone advice on hotels for the Manchester gig? Don't know where to start.  Not been there for years!

We will have our rooms booked from the Ibis Manchester Centre Portland Street hotel. It's gonna be my first time in Manc so I don't know about the other hotels or B&B's.

Tried to find decently priced rooms in Manchester (and I know Manchester VERY well!) for that date, found nothing.  What's your budget?

UP TO £200???   :D

I usually work to a £50 budget!

Right, I'll get back to you... bear in mind that Manchester Academy, where NMA are playing, is a mile or so out of central Manchester... where are you coming from?

Doesn't mean I want to pay that!! ;) ;)

Will be coming on the train I think although, the car is a distinct possibility too as most of my searching has left only rooms at £350 or ones close to the airport...?

Airport hotel and taxi in is looking the most likely right now....   :-\

Blimey, Dawn... just spent half an hour trawling every website I can think of and can't find a hotel for anything less than silly money.  Genuinely thought I could find you something decently priced, sorry!   :-\

Ok, if you don't mind a bus journey and paying for a taxi back £15-18 depending on time then there are several options just out of the city. Premier inn, Chadderton, whitegate/Broadway, or another minute further out is travelodges at Oldham. All much closer than the airport and considerable less noise. Also are much cheaper! Ridiculous prices I know. I'm ashamed my city had become intolerable of late!

Also to be considered is Clayton Green, The Boat and Horses,

You need any travel I.e. Buses into town then
80 or 81, 184 all stop very close by. Or local taxi do a good rate into town (Cresta is safe)

You could go out in the other direction towards Sale / Altrincham.

Night buses operate or you could share a taxi.

Manchester is busy and expensive on a Saturday night anyway, but when the Christmas Markets are open, Man United are playing at home, New Model Army and New Order, Selecter and UK Subs and Faithless are all in town over the weekend, it's cash-in time for hotels etc.

Crap.  Thanks for your help though guys.  Was worth a shot!

Think a taxi ride in and out is required!  Should be fun.  Too old to do buses thee days lol ;D

There's a cheap but habitable place (pub with rooms) over the road from Piccadilly station - Monroes - but noisy due to the proximity of the station but its clean and you get a brekkie - about £30.

It's really near to the tram stop to Manchester!
I believe Gibbo is in there too!

If United are at home then DO NOT go south to Sale or Alty. Roads = car park, Buses stop running down Chester road as road is pedestrianised so closed hours before during and after the match, trams =hammered and there's a diversion as there is a rail replacement service due to work on the line so it's a rail replacement service bus, see problems with road closure and services stopping.

There is always Ashton, Denton, Oldham, Prestwich etc.
