I'd like to ask if there are some good pubs nearby the Manchester Academy where people would like to have a meet up?
It's early play times and I guess I and my friends don't have a lot of time to waste elsewhere on the day. But if there's a chance to go for one or two it would be nice to see any of you before the gig. :)
And of course, there's the after party later managed by LCG that's a must to go!

There aren't that many pubs close to the venue other than Kro-Bar and Big Hands, both good pubs but not huge. Some of us early birds will be starting at The Salisbury, next to Oxford Rd station, and working our way up to the venue area, and of course there is the aftershow at Kro-Bar(upstairs room I think).See you Saturday.....

[...] See you Saturday.....
Oi Jez. Yea nice to hear that. Btw, if you'll bring your CD I'd like to buy it. ;)

Never been to the academy before. Is it on Oxford Road and how long will it take to walk it from the Salisbury.

It is indeed on Oxford Road and you're talking about 20-25 minutes walk. Come out of the Salisbury, turn right and keep going until you reach a really big church, the Academy is just over the road.
Gotta say, I much prefer Manchester Ritz as a venue...
-
Thanks MasterRay, I have seen NMA twice at the Ritz good venue, but I was bit pissed off at them last time, when they set fire alarm off in a ploy to get people to leave at curfew time.
-
Indeed >:(

It's only 50p on the bus from the Salisbury to the academy! Any bus opposite near enough. 42s are every 3 minutes and you can then say you have bussed it down European busiest bus route.
What time are people meeting in the Salisbury btw? Might bob in myself. Mind I'll need a chair!

I shall try to remember, see you Saturday.

Now we're talking. I realised it's only 8 min walk to Salisbury from our hotel, lol.

Or Thirsty Scholar under the arches if Salisibury is rammed (which is likely), or Font Bar in the side street just beyond the Thirsty Scholar. Font Bar is good for the range of ales and food and also a very generous CAMRA discount if you are a member (or it did have last time I was in).
I also like Sand Bar which is just off Oxford Rd on way down to Academy.

Oh yeah... buses. Forgot about those things. :-[
I'd deffo recommend a pregig meet at the Salisbury / Thirsty Scholar / Grand Central (all within about 20 paces of each other) and then you lot grab the bus up to The Academy, those three are far better pubs than what The Academy has to offer now that Jabez Cleggs has gone... hope you all have a great time!
-
You know, I've only just twigged, those three pubs are where I went for the NMA 2013 gig. The Salisbury set back off the road down a little slope. The Central where LCG did his after show. Yes, good little group of pubs, but I remember also the Salisbury was packed solid

The Salisbury is always packed on a Saturday, right from early evening onwards.
Deffo go for a pre-gig at those pubs.

Master Ray,
Sorry you can't make the gig, but I do hope you are recovering well. I'll raise a glass for you.
All the best,
Johnny

Wishing everyone a great night in Manchester, sending you all cyber irn bru for tomorrow morning

Hope everyone made it safely to Manchester, and the weather didn't stop anyone from getting there
-
Been hearing, via NMAs FB page, about how some folks haven't been able to make Manchester thanks to terrible weather... that must be gutting.
If you couldn't make it, I don't think Nottingham isn't sold out...
-
Such "Terrible weather" stopping NMA fans to be there ?
Some more input please, Mr. Ray ;)
-
There seem to be flooding and high winds closing down roads left right and centre, particularly if you're coming from further north. I only have scant details but a few FB folks have said that they have had to turn back. Like I said, must be so disappointing.
-
Thanks Mr. R.
I only know Hamburg, often having problems with flood and wind, but all the venues are save there - but sometimes the problems are 50 - 100 km outside the center
Best wishes to all in Manchester tonight (Cologne isn`t far away ..)
