Aaarrggghhh! Thwarted at every turn. Missed pre gig drinks: and people I'm with (and who are giving me a lift) took one look at the crowded bar at spankys and left! Not going to meet you guys this time:-(
On the plus side, AWESOME gig. Loved being part of the animal that is the family in the mosh pit.
Love to you all xXxX
-
Ohh, a very harsh pit it was to. Hope we clashed against each other at some point Sheena :)
-
Agreed Shush, i can hardly move this morning.
-
Thank You to Everyone who helped make the after show last night so cool - especially Shush for organizing it all, Very nearly didn't make the gig so to get in having only missed 1 song was such a relief after a very stressful day. Apologies to anyone who asked Me for songs I didn't have and big respect to everyone who came and said Hello, danced like loons and gave Me the thumbs up. Lovely People all of You xx Also good to meet some of the band - Dean and Michael who are true gents, I saw Marshall and Ceri briefly too which was cool. I will happily play next Year if invited and bolster up My selection! Hope Everyone got home safe, Love You All!
-
You did a great job Vaggers, some good music that got us dancing like loons :)
Many thanks
Spoke to the management afterwards, they were very please with the bar takings :)
-
A massive thanks for the after show party shush and vaga , excellent night
-
Great night - that first set was awesome! Particularly enjoyed Summer Moors, You Weren't There and WWTG.
Has anyone got a copy of the setlist, please?
-
Another top night in Nottingham.
It all seemed to come together last night. The crowd was in better voice than I have heard for a long time and the first set, in particular, was unbelievable. All told, the best night out in Nottingahm since....er, last year.
-
'twas a good one... but, then again, that feels a repetitive thing to say... after all, has anyone here actually seen NMA play an utter stinker? :(
Now, this might turn out to be a VERY long thread, feel free to click off if I start to bore...(whaddya mean, I usually do that anyway) ;)
A terrific meet with friends old and new from start to finish (for me, an NMA gig begins before you get into the venue and way after you leave it, particularly in Nottingham at Christmas)... good meet beforehand, finally got some proper face-time with Pol, drummyb and jc, along with my usual laughs with Shush and The Lovely Ange (I think that should become a Forum thing...) . Fine people, one and all. Although I feel that there was a big Anna-shaped hole in the evening...
Still not happy about how slow it is for Rockers to let people in, particularly when it's cold and bloody pissing it down outside!
The gig... fantastic. Both sets impeccable and full of surprises (and if I hadn't been to Chester a few weeks ago, there would have been a couple more surprises!). An odd thing... this gig wasn't sold out (to my knowledge) but it seemed more crowded than last year, howzat? Which brings me to another thing... I was by the sound-desk for the majority of the gig but I've been told by moshpit veterans that the pit was particularly hardcore this year? In fact, I saw a couple of security guys being asked to wade into the pit and manhandling a bare chested fella out who was rather streaked with blood that I don't think was his and he was complaining about it..? Anyone else found it a bit intense in there?
The aftershow... big thanks to vagabondage for pulling it off in difficult circumstances, I know you had trouble making it to the gig and I was there with Shush when you were trying to plug everything in and get that shit working... but you pulled it off, sir, and played a blinder. Would have liked to have a chat but you were a bit busy... and thanks for the Sisters tracks!
So many other forum-folks I met at the aftershow, mostly for the first time... suffice to say, I have croaky-post-gig-throat today... it was great to meet you all. A special shout-out to our new US friend Todd...
And one personal thing I'll say... big thanks to everyone I met who knows me from this forum and enquired about my well-being after my recent health problems... truly appreciated. And I'm fine.
Fantastic night. Did we hear Justin confirm that next year in Nottingham is booked? And that the new album is already finished?
Much NMA-ness happening next year, I think... :D
-
Actually MR, Rock City did sell out on the day :)
-
Well, that would explain it! Cheers, Viv...

Now I've made it home safe and about recovered, not much I can add to what ray has already said, brilliant night from start to finish. Excellent to catch up with you all again in the tap. The first set was truly awesome , was only my second time seeing nma do that, yes I know they played two sets last year but that was a good bit different. The second set was of fcking excellent as well , the band always give it everything.
A massive thanks again to everyone I spoke to at the after show, the family are such brilliant people.
A huge thanks to all the staff at the strathdon for looking after me, especially the girl who served breakfast and whoever cooked it. Thanks also to the rail network for getting me there and back especially considering the recent weather.
Hopefully see you all again next year and especially a certain sister who couldn't make it.
Ps England is a beautiful place especially the peak district and the around the Penrith area

I am so sorting this out next year. Pre gig drinks and after show will be properly sorted (http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/funny/2/banana.gif) (http://www.sherv.net/)
Lovely, lovely, lovely gig. So impressed by the quality of the music, passion, intensity and soul. Personal highlights were BDAW and the encores - Green and Grey was sublime. It was all much, much needed soul-food after a rubbish year.
I've never been to a gig where everyone was so lovely either :) A bonkers mosh pit where I was simulateously swept off my feet and apologised to with the biggest of grins every 15 seconds. The crowd highlight was a woman dropping her purse in the mosh pit and everyone around her either holding back the hordes or scrabbling on the floor for her belongings. Shush - hope we bumped into one another too. I was at left of centre about 5/6 people from the front.
Just in case anyone saw me, I had stripey legs and a half top hat with a red bandana...
-
Sheena, was really hoping to meet you as I did so many others last night... oh well, next time, eh?

Yeah, I'm disappointed that that the meet-up didn't happen for me. Planning next year already ;D

Actually MR, Rock City did sell out on the day :)
So pleased it was a sell out second year running. That's the best part of 2.5 K people who got real value for money with 3 hours of NMA :)
Really was a wonderful set, several said afterwards the best NMA gig they had been to. Its wrong to wish your life away, but already looking forward to next years show at the "twin sister". Whatever else happens next year, its nice to know it will end well
:)

Fabulous sentiment <3

Nice to meet Shush, MR and Pol. Also got introduced to JC. I think it was. Sorry I missed the after show but as I explained funds were tight. Usually do my own thing in Nottm so was nice to say hello at least. Shush. Cheers for the beer......wherever it went lol ;D

Id say its one of the best of the 5 Ive seen at Nottingham. Last years guests were special too. Cant put my finger on it but there was something a bit different, better(?) this year that I came away with.

Ha, I suspect it went down M'R's throat. It is very difficult to find people in a dark packed solid Rock City.
Was good to meet you too Drummyb, but after meeting you, I am surprised you didn't go for the forum name, Brummyb :D
-
Lol. I'm from the Black Country. To be called a Brummy is punishable by stoning in these parts!!! Mind you I told MR he came from Chester. Which is actually Crewe lol
-
Thanks To everyone who helped find The Floriders purse in the pit! It was only her second gig and now she is totally hooked and wants to join the tower building brigade!
-

I didn't think it was particularly "hardcore". I just thought it was typical of a relatively large busy venue, in that there's a proportionately larger number of people that want to get involved. The shape can also be a factor (the shape of the venue that is, not the shape of the dancers ;) ). It can feel harder work when it's more tightly packed, because more time is spent adjusting your ground, trying to hold off sways and surges etc and it's not as easy to get space to dance or jump about for any length of time without being "moved on". There also tends to be a lot more pile ups that need untangling when it's like that and particularly with Saturday gigs (more drinking?). Saturday was an interesting contrast to the Forum the night before (which I enjoyed in terms of dancing), or Manchester last week (which was perhaps too loose).
One bloke got quite a nasty cut above his eye early into the main set. There was lot of blood. He seemed quite keen to carry on but others equally keen to persuade him to at least go and get cleaned up, which to be fair he did as far as I know. He seemed fine at the end but it looked like it needed stitching.
My pet hate is scratchy watches and jewellery but for the first time ever at a gig I actually got properly skewered by something deep into my upper arm rather than just grazed and so I had to go and get cleaned up myself towards the end. I couldn't be bothered forcing my way back in after that but I went up onto the balcony and had a great view of the encores - an interesting and different perspective to normal.

Hi, Hughie. Fair enough, wasn't having a go... and I completely appreciate the absolute freedom of folks to do what they want in the pit, god knows I used to be like that! Just going from what I was told. I'd just never seen the sound guy spot something and then informing security to wade into the pit and drag someone out before...
It was a terrific gig.

No, I know Ray, I never thought so; I just thought I'd share my view of proceedings. I saw the first set from just in front of the pillar to the right of the sound desk after just about making it in for Snelsmore Wood.
Mind you, my right boot tread was lost in action at the gig on Saturday. I didn't even realise until this morning, although I had wondered why my foot got so wet so quickly yesterday! I shall have to get to the local army surplus store before the weekend. At least when that happened in Germany once it didn't completely detach and the hotel for the next gig was right next door to a traditional cobblers and he fixed it.
