Now, it seems David Bowie has passed away. :'(
Cancer has taken his life. :(
He is a true artist and had a major influence over so many artist to come after.
If you listen to his past albums, you can see just what he accomplished as an artist was massive.
He had songs that could be in the folk genre, dance genre, jazz genre, rock, glam etc. He seemed to just make music and not care about what category it would fit into. His music was loved by so many throughout the world.
The Man who Sold the world is my very favorite Bowie song. I am not listening to it.
I wish his family and friends that he left behind the very best.

He was a real chameleon. Like a gorgeous star who also gave a voice to some people and minorities that have had same experiences in life. Guts to do whatever he wanted without caring what others think.
I've liked the most of his "Berlin" era songs and style. Heroes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jBuwC4VJi50) is an all-time classic. Ashes to Ashes... Also some of his new stuff; like Where Are We Now? and Space Boy (which is a real cool, hard electronic floor stamper, I think).
You know, I heard this right then when I was watching Lemmy's funeral (yes, at work) and got an email Bowie's dead. :(

Yes, good post. I read Joolz response. I admit to not hearing most of his music. I heard a few early albums and Heathen.

Sad news indeed.
A few years ago I realised how many Bowie tracks I liked despite not owning any, a situation I had to rectify!
He was a massive musical and stylistic influence on many bands in the "alternative" charts of my youth.

"Back in 1987 ( seems like a lifetime ago ) I was playing guitar in New Model Army. The band had the honour of opening for David Bowie in Berlin on his Glass Spider Tour in front of 85000 people. 15 minutes before we were due on stage David Bowie sauntered into our dressing room to say Hello....I was awe struck he was everything I expected and more he told us not to be nervous and just imagine it's the Marquee without a roof. I had so many questions I wanted to ask him...but hid in the corner behind our drummer Robert Heaton feeling like the skinny, spotty 20 year old I was and totally out of my depth... As Bowie went to leave he complimented me on a jacket I was wearing .....suddenly I was 100 feet tall ,here was a man that my big Sister Debbie Warwick Bulloch had played his records regularly.... and I too loved them ...she even went as far as dying her hair bright orange and getting it cut in that cool Bowie style....I still remember her facing the wrath of my mother the day she walked into the house with it.
David Bowie was just class...end of."

David Bowie was a part of my youth - did`n t follow the last years, first and last live gig was the "Go Bang" tour (and my first NMA live gig , too) - too late now for more Bowie live

It is very sad. I couldn't watch the news. I think partly it's the acknowledgment that time has passed so quickly and time really does catch up with all of us. Up until the early years of this century he was ever present. When the Blackstar video came out a few weeks ago, I posted it on Facebook. Look, he's still doing it after all this time! Strangely, one of my favourite Bowie songs is his version of 'Wild Is The Wind'. None of the showmanship, glam stuff, just a gorgeously sung, heartfelt song. Very, very sad news that he's gone.

Read a long article on a german news paper today ( Stern ) about David Bowie makes me really sad now one knows that he was really ill ....bless him he was a really hero :)

OK, so that utterly talentless, Kardasian-bothering, complete arsewomble that is Kanye West (the self-proclaimed 'greatest rock star in the world'... heck, I was in a couple of shit local rock bands in the 90's and I'm twice the rock star he could ever dream of being!) has announced that he's 'carrying on' Bowie's work with a new album of cover versions... not that he's jumping on a bandwagon or anything... >:(
Just to bring my blood pressure down a bit, here's an example of how damn funny Mr Bowie could be... an extra from the show 'Extras', a seemingly improvised clip of David talking about how he worked with Gervais and Merchant... would have posted the full clip from that show, but can't seem to find it on Youtube...

And this movie "Cat People" is underrated...one of the few remakes i like (and it has Nastassja Kinski in it :))
