Post by: Coumarin on March 19, 2016, 08:57:29 PM
Anyone else proud to wear one?

Not for me, my facial hair goes all grey , I hate it when you haven't shaved for a few days and its as itchy as fck. Beards seem very trendy these days so another reason to avoid. I think once you get to a certain age they make you look even older

I do seem to have a large proportion of friends who have beards that are several inches south of their chins...

Not for me, my beard hair has gone FAR whiter than the rest of my hair (and I'm a rather hirsute fella) and I'm ageing far too quickly for my liking without growing a big grey old soup-catcher...  :)

Yes, I've had a gray beard in a way or another for 21 years. But last autumn I tried to be without it. I agree with pol about the age thing. Some people say I almost look like 60 years old. If they're serious, I don't know...

Ive been sporting one since Jan. Unfortunately my whiskers grow in several directions and it looks scraggy. So its clipped shorter.  Yeah mainly grey hairs but hey I can blame the missus and besides its hides saggy jowels lol.

I'm comfortable with mine now, same with my trusty old pipe, which tends to stain it a bit these days

Whoever came up with the idea of the union of Velcro and shoes needs an award.

Had one for a good few years up until about three years ago, when I was brushing my teeth one morning and an old hippy stared back at me from the mirror.  The beard went (but the hippy remained, somehow!) immediately.

Get's to that 3 or 4 week stage where your face feels like a field full of ants. Then it becomes more comfortable when the little hairs are given a chance to grow and develop without being chopped down in their youth. It builds body to a beard as a duck may grow "down"

had a beard born out of extreme lazyness for years during my crustier looks, but to be honest it takes 5 years off me having a clean shave. i'm still lazy so a close-as-they-cut clipper-stubble prevails....still takes 4 years off lol.

Yes, laziness is always the first step, "I haven't shaved for two weeks therefore I have a beard"

No

You don't have a beard, just stubble.

a la 1980s crocket and tubs with jacket sleeves rolled up! how cool were they!

Absolutely. When does a "five O'clock shadow" become stubble ?

If you don't like it, don't look n the mirror.

No Mirror, No Shadow

I haven't had a shave in three weeks.  My stubble might be actually turning into a proper beard.  Much of it is white as fook, but I think I'm now tempted to grow a full-on soup-catcher.  You know, go for 'The Full Opie'....   ???

Had a beard in various styles ranging from a goattee to a full on Tali-beard (as it was called at work) since the early 90s but recently took it all off. Think it was the working in London and seeing all the hipsters that was the death knell for me. I remember fondly when beards were only worn by metallers, botanists, wargamers etc and others on the fringe.Much like piercings and tattoos the beard has been absorbed into the mainstream. I'm pleased i had one now pleased to have got rid of it especially as the amount of white splodges in it looked like i'd been haphazardly painting a ceiling!

My advice to you about beards is the advice I've posted here a decade ago from the guy who used to cut my hair.

"Never let grow round your mouth what grows wild round your asshole"!  ;)

Yeah, was briefly tempted to grow a beard (probably after a couple of beers too many).. shaved it off last night.  Didn't suit me.

That said, quite tempted to grow one of those little ones under your bottom lip, about an inch in diameter... I think they're known as a 'soul patch'... as worn by Justin in the 'Justin Sullivan And Friends' DVD (and also Kevin Costner in Fridays 'Graham Norton Show...  ;) )

Well, that's an excuse to post the awesome JSAF version of 'Gimme Shelter'...  ;D

Haven't read it yet, but noticed the film version showed up on Netflix recently... I'll proably go for the book first.

Drummer B, most people (in the real world) think I'm an R-soul anyway...  :D
