Whhhaaaaaaaaaa... my 'GOD', that was gobsmackingly radiant, immaculate, b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l !!! So much so, it froze me where I lay, to complete and utter silence, stillness, straight... 'til he was done. The vocal delivery especially, stirred my soul, woke my spirit, welled up my eyes, flooded my heart and left knots in my throat. It was the softness of the vocal, the hushhh of it, the sweetness of it, the clear-winded crystal clarity of it, the tenderness, yet intensely gorgeous emotive subtle inflections of it, the pitch of it, smouldering rich tonal depths of it... sooo good, 'so real', sacred, STUNNING!!!
It's also in the way Mr. Sullivan moves through the course of the cover. He's not rushing it, he's taking his time with it. The pace really adds further dimension, substance, weight, and a well-rounded fullness to the song, the lyrics. It's in how you can hear the genuine honesty, clearly exuding from the depths of his own soul outward, beyond his own person (he himself), into the wide open space before him. It's in the effort, care and affection he's soaked into the song.
i love Mr. Sullivan's cover far, far greater than all the other versions I've ever heard... and that includes Mr. Cooke's version, Mr. Redding's and even Ms. Franklin's - thanks to all the afore mentioned, remarkably wonderful things I feel from it, see and hear in it.
A treasure, a 'lullaby'.
Thanks for posting the link, Rusco... and thanks for uploading it to youtube, Kimmo.
