Title: Live album from Nottingham removed
Post by: Jimmy M on October 21, 2019, 07:25:41 AM
Anyone know why the live album recorded at Nottingham that recently appeared on Spotify and a few other streaming sites has been removed?

Only recently have gotten into NMA but the cover of the album shows some guy on someone elses shoulders
is that a thing? I see the arm movement and whatnot--what's it about? what's the back story?

It is a thing.  :)

I was joking with my youngest daughter today that New Model Army are the only band to have their own footwear and dance styles.

It was mentioned on the NMA Story DVD, but I don't think there was any great significance, just folks having fun.

Dear all, the ownership of this recording is currently in doubt and is being looked into. We would suggest holding off buying this recording for the present until the issue is resolved.
Cheers!

I'm not surprised. I imagine that someone thought that because of the broadcast nature of that recording, it's like a common licence, or they bought a licence from the video producer of that show, or it is just a bootleg.

Why would nma release now such an old recording and without giving notice about it?
And why and how can someone release such a dvd without contacting the artist?

I find this interesting how such things happen and what the background is about.

Has anyone ordered the CD version and received it yet? It seemed delayed but some online retailers give it as "in stock" but all rather sketchy.
Would be interesting to know if any of you already has a physical copy of it.

I can't seem to get my head around the legitimacy of this album. I know for a fact that I attended every 'Midlands' NMA gig back in the day. I had to pretend I was 14.....sorry to the bouncers at the time but I was only 13.

I listened to the recording on iTunes; only once - and immediately thought something was up! I've never listened to it again.

I dont remember that gig at all. It's really doing my head in. Was 'The Charge' really called 'The Chase'? Maybe Mark Labbett or Paul Sinha are huge NMA fans? By the way...not being sizeist here....but you wouldn't want Mark Labbett on top your shoulders dancing to 'The Charge'.

Anyway. Interested to find out what the official response is?

well, it seems to be one of those 'radio broadcast' recordings that exist in a semi-bootleg status/space.
the rights to such recordings may lie at the radio station or broadcaster and shabby labels get their hands on those and release them, usually with terrible artwork, often mis-spelled songtitles and more often than not terrible sound quality, often a bad copy of the original broadcast done without any respect or care.

Doesn't look like an official release (label : Angel Air) but ... "Welcome to Angel Air Records! Since 1997 we have worked closely with bands and artistes to compile a varied and extensive catalogue of releases from the 60's to date. There are re-issues of historic classic albums, previously forgotten gems and some new releases from familiar talented bands and artistes. All releases are carefully compiled, remastered to enhance with informative booklets/photos (cds)."

Interesting...........but do the Bands/Artistes receive any royalties from these releases.......?..as you may have gleaned from some of me previous posts i am a huge Grateful Dead fan and there are huge amounts of unofficial recordings out there of the band, but they don't care in fact as all Dead fans know they actually encouraged fans to bootleg/record their shows even setting up separate areas at stadiums and halls for Deadheads to do this which is great for fans......not so good for bands who rely on all/any income which should rightfully come to them.....

Got the CD, total bootleg of course; cover artwork is complete nonsense (some random pic, not NMA on the cover but some random guys or rights-free stock photography ), booklet is 1 page....
As with nearly all other radio broadcast type releases it is shabby done and executed.
Sound quality is good bootleg quality but lacks depth and clarity, does not even sound as a first rate copy of the recording; music of course flawless and setlist is a dream.
On the cover it says "SFM" The Store For Music Ltd. (Catalogue number SJPCD606)
www.thestoreformusic.com
On that website one finds lots of dodgy live recordings and on demand videos (!) etc., looks all extremely shabby and not officially endorsed.
Could not find the NMA release on there though.
It does not say "Angel Air" records anywhere, but from what I can see on their website SFM have bought Angel Air at some point.
Dodgy.

As was stated before this is not an official release and we advised not buying it.
