Whitby April 2014
« on: November 06, 2013, 09:30:58 AM »
Got a real surprise when visiting the Goth weekend at Whitby on Saturday to see that NMA are headlining next April! Apologies if it's been referenced elsewhere but I had a look through and couldn't see another thread for it.

Anyway, my husband and I have only ever visited the weekend for a day out (we live just over an hour's drive away), we've never been in the evening to see the bands, mostly because - with the exception of pagan band Inkubus Sukkubus who we're long term fans of- there are not that many that we're interested in, and also hearing stories about how difficult is to find reasonable accomodation if you're not booked up about three years in advance or something (I exaggerate, but you get the idea :) ).

I was wondering if anyone here has been in the Spa for the evening gigs as I've heard there've been problems with overcrowding in the past - I'd hate to miss an NMA gig that close to home but I don't know if I really fancy it if it's likely to be a kind of crammed-to-the-rafters affair.

I've been to the Whitby weekend a fair few times, and Im really excited about NMA playing next year. ;-)

It's true that there have been problems with overcrowding (mainly manifested in the queues for the toilets) in the distant past, but this is no longer an issue. If I've understood it correctly, the capacity of the whole venue is the same as the capacity of the main room. As its a festival type event, everyone won't be in the main room at the same time, not even for the headliners. So it's unlikely to be filled to the rafters (though Im sure it'll be nice and sweaty down the front... ;-)

Accommodation can be a problem, though - things tend to start to get booked up 6 months in advance (especially self-catering cottages - hotels/B&Bs might be slightly easier to get hold of.)
