Running in the Rain in Oelde
« on: June 08, 2026, 03:01:06 PM »
I was so looking forward to the Oelde gig, it has been a very long time since i saw NMA not in a Venue but open air, i think it was a Bizarre Festival then, and the place in Oelde seemed to be a cool not so oversized place, so i got the ticket, got the hotel and got me some days off from work. The trip started fantastic, i could use a train from my hometown, which went in the other direction, which i never had used before and i always wanted to do it. I used this track to go to cologne for all my life i would say and it started in my hometown and the other direction always was closed, it was a very old track from the past. But they opened it and i always wanted to travel the other direction through my little hometown country. Well it had opened like more than 15 years ago, but you know..time and everything...

So i started the journey in very good weather, much sun, very warm and enjoyed the ride until i had to change trains and then the now normal deutsche Bahn chaos erupted suddenly, i'm kind of prepared for these things happenning but this time two follow up trains were delayed and i had to wait and sit at the station in the sun, not very comfortable, but i wandered around and found a supermarket which provided beer, and some bushes to get rid off it...but the time went on and i wondered if i would make it in time to the venue, still had two more connections to catch and more waiting time at he stations. My cheap hotel was like 10km from Oelde, at first i thought i'm wrong, this is no hotel but the street and adress was correct, it was a gaming or arcade hall, the i found a little sign entrance to the hote in there..and yes, they had a room for me. I think it was abouthalf past 6 and when i got to my room, the door was open and a cleaning woman (right now i have to think about dead men don't wear plaid;-) was inside..she said, hey, i made a longer break, but i wil lfinish soon..i said, don't worry, i will just change clothes here right now while you are here and leave...

When i arrived in Oelde the weather already changed and you could feel and smell the storm coming, walked in the direction of the venue, through the very nice city and everywhere they were taking the outside sunny tables and chairs in and it really was windy, with little branches falling from the trees and so much dust blew into my eyes..then the rain started and right before the venue people, nma fans were coming back and i reckognized, damn i think it's david somebody and he said the gig was delayed for one hour and we went into a pub called summer. It was fun and we were talking, i was screaming let the whirlwind blow and the atmosphere was very good but the rain was really hard...we then later went to the venue, i was already soaked, but the the gig was finally delayed to july.

We then went back to another pub, i had many great conversations and after a while they began to play nma songs..it was a cool evening, but sadly i won't make it to the july gig and i would have rather not paid so much money on the trip and hotel for not seeing nma live..but hey..i'm cool with it.

Greetings to Jörg and Wife and Friends and Uwe and partner..sorry for forgetting names and to those two guys who took me in their taxi back to the hotel..i think i paid the bloody fare, but again i can't remember;-) Hast du Döner? Very funny..

Ah, and of course the next morning, still pretty wet clothes and shoes, with a slight intense hangover the first two trains for me also were not coming, so again hanging around at the station without coffee!!! for hours and i still felt the trip in my bones at least three days later..

But Oelde seems to be a very nice venue and city and i woulld love to come back for a live show, but for this date i just cannot get days off of work.
ever tried. ever failed. no matter.
try again. fail again. fail better.

How unfortunate. It amazes me that rail services can be so unreliable - trains and their routes have been around for so many years one would think that getting the schedule right should be a simple matter. I would never consider travelling to a gig in another city by rail, certainly not without some company or without a bag of food and drink. My own experiences with rail travel as a youth taught me to be prepared to suffer. I do like trains though.

Of course the whole experience is made worse by the show being postponed. Nevertheless you had an unforgettable experience.  :-\

Better luck, and planning, next time.
