All Roads Lead to 123
« on: April 22, 2021, 04:15:35 PM »
Start wit any number that is a string of digits- say, 9288759 - and count the number of even digits, the number of odd digits, and the total number of digits it contains.
These are 3 (three evens), 4 (four odds), and 7 (seven is the total number of digits), respectively.
Use the digits to form the next string of number, 347.
If you repeat the process with 347, you get 1 2 3.
If you repeat with 123, you get 123 again.

The Number 123, with respect to this process and universe of numbers, is a mathematical black hole.

With the greatest of respect, Sir, I fookin' hated Maths at school.

Your post has done nothing to make me like maths even more.

But what the heck, may I offer you, in return, the main theme from the hugely under-rated film 'The Black Hole' (1979) by John Barry?

Well, i'm slightly disappointed that i couldn't bring you closer to not hate Maths and maybe see the Wonder and Rhythm that is also there in the Numbers and connections and forget the feeling the teachers ("dark sarcasm in the classroom"..;-) may have brought upon you while trying to force some Maths into your brain...

But the more i'm happy that you could offer me the theme to The Black Hole, a film that i totally like and didn't know that it was underrated. Who the heck rated that so much under? ;-) Have to re-watch this soon...
And why am i just thinking about Taking of Pelham 123..?;-)

(...ha, ha, just went back and looked into the Argento thread and the last thing i wrote there was that i was about to get and watch Taking of Pelham 123...)

Hey, buddy!  Just re-read my post and it sounded slightly harsher than I meant it to... aw, my parents forced me to take private maths lessons at weekends so maths = shit to me.  Heck, maybe Slipknot might do a sequel to 'People = Shit' based around my experiences?   ;D

The Black Hole is a terrific movie (the production design is just superb!), but it never seems to show up on TV and I don't think it did terribly well at the cinemas, hence my 'under-rated' comment.

I saw it at the cinema 42 years ago.  42 fookin' years... :-[

No way.. Master Ray...not a second did i take your reply as harsh, 'cause i know you a bit and know your kindness and that you are almost not capable of being too harsh (without a reason..otherwise you speak you mind when you have to..;-)

I kind of thought because it was a disney production and featured big actor names like maximillian schell and anthony perkins and is just such a good nerdy movie, that it had to be a blockbuster success. but anyway, this one is definately one for me to upgrade to blu ray someday. Just love to watch such settings and production designs.
And come on..42 years...just be glad that you saw it in the cinema and forget that number that is counting years and doesn't mean a thing..

My brain hurts. ;D

Master Ray, I have to agree with you, I also hated maths... I still do, meaning that I'm not capable to wrap my brain around numbers and so on, I'm hopeless!
(...just for the record, I think this is the ultimate version of ''People = Shit'' to me, at least it helped a lot when working in customer service... ;D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqcXgODTeOU )

But, I do Love mathematics and science and all that I can't really understand, and all the wonderful scientists out there who make it easier for people like me to understand better things that I do not understand much.  :o
