London...the band were great, but...
« on: December 16, 2016, 07:38:30 AM »
So – first things first, the band were great again last night – new songs like Born Feral & Part The Waters sounding big, a rare outing for Bad Old World, which was lovely to hear and the extra violinist added to the sound & stage present…but…

….who is choosing set times in London?! The band went on at 9.40pm last night, which meant to get the train home I had to do a runner before the encores – missing 5 songs (and what songs they were – set list fm made me sad this morning!) of the set. I’ve seen the band a good few times at different venues / countries – but this seems to be a London thing (the last three gigs in London I’ve had to leave before the end)….it’s frustrating, as when you go to see the band a number of times on the same tour, the main set is generally the same and the encores are where things get mixed up / classics get played…..would have loved to heard how Beginning sounds morphing into Vagabonds – but I wouldn’t have been able to get home…I wasn’t the only one – there were a good few people heading down to Kentish Town Tube  at the same time – just seems a bit of a waste!

Any ideas why it runs this way in London? Maybe it’s time to do the Nottingham again!

Yeah, ditto - last Southern train going my way till saturday so I had to make sure I got it! And yes the band sounded great - as good as I've heard them in a while.

Just checked the encores:

Christian Militia
Poison Street
Get Me Out

Beginning
Vagabonds

Pity. It's annoying - other venues I've been to (Koko club, O2 Islington) both had the main acts on by 9 and finished at 10:30/45-ish which would have been perfect. Ho-hum.

Here is a tip for going to a the Forum from the south.

Last night we drove from Surrey/Hampshire border to Morden Underground Station and got free parking (between 6pm and 5am). We took the Northern Line all the way to Kentish Town (45 minutes). Saw all the show. About midnight we then took the same route back to Morden. OK I didn't get home till 2am but who cares?

We couldn't risk missing the last train out of Waterloo and also the train strike threatened. I reckon we'll do it this way again because I hate that panic getting a last train.

A breathtaking performance last night. The band were excellent (as usual) in Reading last month but they can always really turn it up with the Forum's big acoustics.

The violinist was Shir-Ran Yinon

She's Israeli but living in Germnay I think

She was playing on all the UK dates in November and also I think all the mainland European dates

here's her facebook page if you're interested

My problem is the last train North out of Kings Cross is 2330 so HAD to leave early :(

Sorry to hear that RJ1.  Perhaps there was a technical or logistic issue that delayed the start?  It does seem a late start...

I'd deffo recommend Nottingham next year, usually done and dusted by 10pm and that's with the traditional 2-sets!  Less than half an hour to the train station as well if you can't manage a stopover!

Rah! Rah! Rah! We're going to smash the oiks!

Next time you Grantham folks are going to NMA gigs, let me know as I'm not far away and we can do lift shares!
