Bad Day Songs
« on: January 26, 2015, 12:48:40 PM »
It strikes me that I listen to a lot of NMA when I'm having a bad day, and it really seems to help. Sure, I listen to them on all sorts of days, but I find that they can really help lift my mood, or at least give me some sort of catharsis when things are feeling like too much to bear.

Some of my favourite "bad day songs" are:

Guessing
Vengeance
Christian Militia
I Love the World
Water
Over the Wire
Falling
Orange Tree Roads (works for every mood, really)
Here Comes the War
Young, Gifted and Skint (well, that has REAL personal resonance right now  ;D)
Poison Street

Anyone else? Other artists, too?

Good call - and good timing!
I'd add Snelsmore Wood, Whitelight and Another Imperial Day to your list.

Other than NMA then it'd be RATM's 1st album, Sepultura Chaos AD, This is PiL or You Will See Me by Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip which will get my head raised back up

Also:

'Twilight Home' - JS
'What a Beautiful Day'- Levellers
'Beautiful Ones' - Suede
'Friday I'm in Love' - Cure
'Tomorrow' - James

It's usually the most depressing songs that make me feel better during a bad day. I then know, I am not alone.

Great call on "Orange Tree Roads", this always makes me smile no matter what. There are so many NMA songs that are just as good in that department.

There are also a number of songs from my youth that also trigger good feelings and memories:
- Just the opening bars of Alternative Ulster send me back there to good old care free times. Teenage kicks too. (guess where I'm form?)
- Surprisingly Joy Division also makes me happy, especially the album tracks.... I'm weird I guess!
- Bad Religion's Suffer and Against the grain albums
- Suicide Machine's first Album.. catchy ska punk gets the head and feet moving.
- This one song is also really good at giving you a kick in the arse to think positive 8) is by a somewhat obscure Swedish band... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9Pqw01uZfE

There are some many more. Music is a great companion on the roads we take.

Hugs to everyone from California.

NMA songs that give hope in the bleakest of times?

I agree with everyone here about the healing power of "Orange tree roads" 8)

Also:

"Poison street"
"Ballad of bodmin pill"
"Eleven years"
"Long goodbye"
"Snelsmore wood"
"Falling"
"High"
"Mambo queen of the sandstone city"
"Seven times"
 ...
Music is a great companion on the roads we take.

Very true.

An uplifting song for a bad day - "Dawn". If walking and listening to it on head phones, always makes me want to walk faster for some reason. "Poison Street" and O/T Roads have the same effect,
