Kobarid in Slovenia is beautiful. The Alps are on one side and if you walk about half a mile out of the village, over Napoleons Bridge, you can walk down to the Soce, which is the clearest, blue/turquoise stretch of water I have ever seen.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten Slovenia !  Went there in '88 when it was still part of Yugoslavia. Stayed at Bovec, which was very close to the Soce river. Beautiful place.
