BRAVE NEW WORLD, different versions... which one you prefer?
« on: October 02, 2015, 10:38:38 PM »
Listening to B Sides and Abandoned tracks yet again, so thought I'd post a trivial question...

BNW 1 or 2?  And yes, I am aware there are more than one version of either track floating around out there, but which ones your favourite?

Gotta be the version of BNW2 from the B sides album for me, the other versions are cracking good NMA rockers, but I just love the fragile quality of this one, a version that really lets the melody breathe and, for my money, has one of Justins best ever vocals... nice keyboard work as well.  Just in case you haven't got it to hand...

What do you lot reckon?   :-\

Brave new world 2 is probably my favourite song ever, I try and play not to often and keep it for when I need it.
Already said in a previous post, that I want it played at my funeral. Maybe wwtg as I enter the incinerator lol

It's not a remix, it's pretty much a different track with the same chorus.

To be fair, the original BNW and the version on BSAAT are a bit different, not massively so, but the BNW2 is an entity unto itself...

mmm........ gotta be II for me. They feel like 2 different songs entirely albeit sharing a joint heritage but II is something a bit special. Kicked off the "& Nobody Else" nights I think ?

A very tough question, only because I love both versions of this excellent song. With a gun to my head I would pick the 2nd. I do  really like the sound and emotion that a piano can give. I am very fond of the works of Chopin and Rachmaminov for the way they can make piano convey emotion. I get the same feeling from BNW-2.

Who was it on the piano for Brave New World II ?

Version 2 for me as well.

I also love the extended remix of Version 1 on the original 12."

Did that ever make it onto CD?

It was. There's a story of how the track came to be, but it's quite long, and relates to what's now a distant memory.

I really like both versions, but have always loved Brave New World 2, ever since I bought the 12 inch single it was on the B side of. For some reason I can't remember at the moment what it was the B side of though !!?  :-[

Thanks Jason for confirming you played the piano on it. I never knew that. It's so atmospheric and emotional. Lovely piece of work  :)

In my humble opinion, Brave New World 2 has the greater power. Both versions are excellent, but that &NE version gives me the chills every time

I like the electric version better, though the acoustic is indeed beautiful. What gives the electric its edge, for me, is that venomous litany Justin breaks out with about hating the patronizing smiles and cold blue eyes. I know the people he's talking about all too well, and that passage of the song hits home hard. It's a hard call though. It's a great song in either version.
