Amsterdam Christmas show - advice required
« on: May 03, 2017, 03:18:31 PM »
Myself and a few friends are looking to travel to the Amsterdam winter show.  This is the first time any of us have travelled outside the UK for a gig.  I know there will be plenty seasoned campaigners on here hopefully willing to give advice.

The plan is to fly from Glasgow into Amsterdam. It seems the best option, however if anyone can suggest cheaper ways of getting there from Scotland that would be great.

Can you suggest a decent/cheap hotel that would be in a good location for the gig and after session?

If we buy tickets online will they send them to the UK or will I need to collect at the venue on the night?

Thanks in advance.  feel free to add any additional info you think would be relevant.

Hi Jimmy, from Scotland I would say that flying to Amsterdam would be by far the easiest and cheapest way. You can book tickets from the Melkweg venue, they offer a print at home option. Amsterdam is expensive regarding hotels, but there are usually some decent offers via websites like booking.com, although when I looked the other day they were a lot more expensive than usual for late December. Best to look a bit closer to the time as the prices do come down. You want to be staying in the Leidseplein district, as that's where the venue and after show are...happy travelling!

Also, you need to buy a temporary Melkweg membership to go with your gig ticket.  About €4 I think.

If staying nearby, you can get the 197 bus direct from the airport to Leidesplein, which is less faff than getting the train into the centre and tram out to Leidesplein.  Pay on board or book online and print your ticket, which is slightly cheaper.

Book your hotel or whatever far in advance because Amsterdam is getting ridiculously expensive especially around the hollidays. Around easter even hostels were over 100 euro's.

On Trivago now sorting out my hotel. Some cheap offers at the minute from 54 Euro for a double. Early booking is the key as already pointed out. ;)
Hotel Vondel just booked 77 Euro
