Here it is the new video to March in September for those who don't do Facebook or Twitter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkAFmWSGJec. ENJOY :D
-
Thanks for the link. That sounds absolutely superb, as good as it did live. Hit count was at 260 when I watched, I expect it will soon rocket, I,ll being watching a few times to say the least !!
-
Sounds even better than the live version, make it very loud and very bassy and it's incredible! :)
-
Yes, the promised multi-layered drum work realy works..
-
I have to say if the video is just a taster to the new documentary I can't wait to see that to.
-
Sound is different from what we're used with NMA, isn't it?
It sounds almost pop, less emphasis on heavy guitars here, and is it me or there is violin on the chorus?
it's very different from the live version, which is more raw, rock!
The video is effective, nice editing!
-
300+, just ordert my copy and Tee using the link on youtube.
....yes, the studio version sounds great, very open! There is an extra melody in the end, brings a new touch to it!
-
Love it
Love it
Love it...!
-
Outstanding video!!! I can't wait for the movie. Looks like it's going to cover everything.
-
Brilliant.Thanks for posting
-
The video is great... going to be a great album, documentary..... can't wait
-
Fantastic, just turned a miserable Monday into a bloody good one.
-
Great video - good promo for the documentary
As for the song - I love it and great to see the band diversify their sound. As someone has already said its a poppy number and should surely get some radio airplay??? I don't mind the lack of raw guitar - as a song it works.
Well done fellas, looking forward to the album now!
-
Love it! Can't wait for the film to be out and can't wait for the t-shirt / CD package to come through.
-
Wow 8) :'( 8)
-
Great vid! I'm sure the back of my head's on it somewhere ;)
The song does differ from the live version but it still sounds fantastic. Magic stuff! Will be watching it a few more times before I go up the wooden hill.
-
Before I go up the wooden hill. Don't know how I have never heard that expression before Barty. It made me laugh once I got it. ;D
-
Up the wooden hill to the land of nod - if i remember it correctly
-
Thanks for that.
:) :)

Yeah mine too, the wife confirmed it just now. Wow about sums it up as someone said earlier, poppier mix that I was expecting, but a good mix nevertheless. Very very different, but the video sums up the family to a tee. Signed book whatevered CD all ordered, just wait to see how long it is before someone is posting a link to say it's got out ahead of official release like happened with TIAGD - and what a debate that provoked. Hope the pre orders are going well for the band who have steadily built up the anticipation to this long awaited new release
-
Can't decide which version I prefer. The "oldschool" live version or the relaxed studio version. Both are great in their own way.
-
Superb...feeling really excited by the new album :)
-
The film is now occupying much of my cognitive processes. Can't wait to see it.
-
The video is great the song.....well it's not their strongest. I like the last minute and a half that was effective, but it just kind of is, rather than smashes you over the head. But then again the last two albums were two of my favourites. Perhaps I'm a luddite, but a bit of guitar would have given it the drive to elevate it, imo, it's like the backing track waiting for the rest of the instruments.
Still it may be a grower, I look forward to the album.
-

I think it gives us a clue for what the sound of the album will be...JS said that the album would be a bit different from the previous ones, less rock and guitar driven, and the track here sums up this nicely...i found the cool sound of this track a bit "strange" on the first listen but it really growed on me, it's probably more subtle and restrained than some of the more heavy tracks on "Today is a good day" for example.
imo, it's like the backing track waiting for the rest of the instruments.
I like when there is only JS's voice, Michael Dean's drums and the keyboard line before the chorus, it works very well...the use of violin is quite subtle too.
As someone has already said its a poppy number and should surely get some radio airplay???
Indeed, the sound is cooler and would work well for radio airplay!
-
That video truly summed up the essence of NMA... loved it.
Dammit, HOW long is it until the November dates? I should hibernate or something... ;)
-
The video is fine. If I can offer a small criticism, there seemed to be some strategic placement of pretty girls on the front rows of the crowd scenes. Not a problem, but just felt very slightly - Bon Jovy video.
-
I have no problem with that, Shush... ;D
In fact, can I just say how it surprises me how many pretty young women come to NMA gigs when, lets face it, both the band and the audience are, lets put it diplomatically, 'past the first flush of youth'...
Cue the messages calling me a middle-aged pervert...
:-\
-
Not at all, noticing pretty young girls is the privilege of middle aged men who should have tried harder when they were younger.
But yes, maybe more close ups of gap toothed tattooed pot bellies may have been as reflective.
(yes, I do fit that description)

I also thought about it! ;D
-
Bring on the ugly girls !
*1st in queue*
:D
-
Love the video and got my order in for the album roll on September.

Isn't that fairly typical for the front rows? Most of the fat, ugly blokes1 are usually a bit further back...
[1] And yes, I include myself in this category... ;)
-
I'm sure that's not the case Wezzy !!

I want that written on my gravestone... ;)
And, yes, the youngers get to the front of the stage because the rest of us are too busy buying pies and beer and discussing our various health ailments at the back...
;D
-
I'm sure Gayle and Julie will be chuffed to bits being referred to as pretty young girls.
Cheers
jc
-
I reckon that's old Tom Jones with the boys at 2.33 doing Gimme Shelter.....
-
Funny you should say that, Barty, I was over at my Mums house the other day. going through boxes of some old forgotten stuff and I found my CD single of GIMME SHELTER, which I hadn't listened to in many a year!
A great cover version of a great song...
-
Yeah - they used to play it live quite a bit a few years back....and Lovin' Spoonful's classic Summer in the City....be nice to hear that again
-
I'm sure that's not the case Wezzy !!

Nice video and contrary to a certain fellows opinion about most of their videos this one certainly ain't crap. Seems like a very historical thing in some ways but feels like a brilliant snapshot of 33 years worth of quality.
As for the young ladies thing well maybe it's about time the world was shown that it's not just white tattoed shaven headed larger framed English males who love this band. No offence/criticism of anyone - just an observation :-*

That's a fair point, and as you referred in your other post about having a business head on, the latter of the above two doesn't sell as well. Still, it was nice to see Stoney in the video towards the end though.
-
I mentioned that thing about attractive young women in a previous post (in a light-hearted sense, honestly!) but I'll extend that to say 'young people' full-stop. Whenever I see the lads, I'm usually and genuinely surprised by how many late-teens / early 20's people they are there.,, and they're well up for it!
Seriously, where are they getting the love of NMA from? Not complaining, NMA has always been a band who welcomes all. And it's brilliant to see them investigate a powerful, passionate band thats so much better than whatever crap the NME is pushing at them these days. Did they investigate their parents record collection? Do their parents own the venues and got them in for free?
I mean no disrespect to younger folks, I'm genuinely curious about how that happens.
-
Absolutely mate. The more young fans the better. All good music is timeless and should be enjoyed by all for all time. There are many radio stations dedicated to playing the charts of 30 - 40 -50, etc years ago, but in the future when the radio stations playing 80s + plus chart music, that's hardly going to include NMA. The more younger fans get involved now the better. I was wearing an NMA T-shirt in a pub a few months back (yes master Ray, it was Formans), and chap came up to me, telling me how his dad got him into the band, he had seen them six times, and love them. He was 21, and we had a good chat about the songs he favoured and the band. I thought that was great. The more the better.
-

The same way I and all my friends got into them 20 years ago when there was still no coverage in the media - piracy, word of mouth and older friends.

I'd have to agree with you completely on all that, except for the bit about the last two albums. There's nothing luddite about wanting guitars. Blomberg's tendency to do quite unique and idiosyncratic fills and pads on a guitar were the glue that bound the rest of the instrumentation together in arrangement for a very long time, but they were also the trills, fills and expressions that brought out colour in certain pieces. From a production perspective, he was invaluable. As the band move away from the Dad-rock sound of the last couple of albums, back to a more progressive and experimental Carnival-esque approach, that absence will be more noticeable on this record, although I'm currently assuming they will for the most part have those aspects covered with accordions, pan pipes and all the other toys Ceri has brought in. I'm excited to hear it.
-
Dad-rock????
;D
Jeez. I wouldn't have been quite THAT harsh! I just listened to TIAGD and if my dad was even a millionth as cool as that, I'd fall over. ;)

Quite like it - though can't help but think of Primal Scream's Come Together at the beginning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3vvn2qOh58
Once the song kicks on that's soon forgotten though, and it doesn't really matter anyway as the drums and melody give it a completely different feel (though I bet anyone with a copy of Screamadelica will soon pick it out).
As for radio play... not without the oblivion 4/4 beat.
Think it is a grower - fine mix and well balanced, I prefer my NMA albums more of a Carnival/NBTS/parts of High (Breathing/Sky in Your Eyes) than the straight guitar rock. Appreciate people like something to throw themselves about to at gigs though, so each to their own. Looking forward to the new album.

Well my Dad's got a ticket for Rock City in December and he'll be 68 then. My Mum's seen 'em loads of times and will be there too.....but I would never consider NMA 'Dad Rock'. To me, that's Weller solo (which I do like a bit of ;D ;D) ;)
-
As well as yourself, your wife, and your brother. A full on Barty bonanza :D :D :D
-
.....and me old mates Mr & Mrs Shush too.... :D ;)

Why is it harsh? Kimsey produces to a dad-rock sound and the band's material didn't exactly run screaming from it. If anything, I'd have expected that kind of convention from Tsangrides when they made Carnival but that had an entirely unique sound which transcended and redefined the ouvre of both band and producer. Hopefully Baressi has lent this new LP the same nuance and finesse he's given to Tool, Kyuss and Isis. I'm excited to hear it and hopeful that Ceri has nudged the songwriting in interesting directions.
Not long now, eh?
-
I suppose it just comes down to people's definition of 'Dad rock'. I always considered it a derogatory description but I know you don't mean it like that, having read your thoughts. :)

Well, all forms of music are equally valid, aren't they? I just found that to my ears the last couple of albums were painted on a rather more familiar canvas than those which came before. They sounded comfortable, like U2 or Manics albums from 2000 onwards, relative to their prior work. The whole being equal to, not greater than the sum of the parts.
Like I said at the time though, if you like everything a band does over a long and busy enough time-frame, either they aren't trying or they're sticking to a formula or you are in the grip of cognitive dissonance.
I'm not arsed whether 'Dog' is evolution or revolution, so long as there's lution. And no cheesy vocal samples.

Or maybe your taste has changed and developed over the last 30 year period, and done so in line with the change in sound and pace of music of your favourite band.
I may not have been to impressed with a song like Autumn when I was in my 20s, but now I'm in my 40s like such music very much. JS may not have been so mellow to write such a song in the early 1980s when he writing songs like Small Time England. But then, like us all he is older now, and not musically influenced by something like living in Thatcher's Britain. Most of us change a little over time.

there is some saying that goes something like - if you view the world at 40 the same as you did at 20, then you have wasted 20 years of your life.
or something like that
-
i love the new song, the vibe the keys portray take me back to Stuarts time with the band, an almost "I Wish" vibe to the track and then the Motown overtones on the backing vocals and the other elements. I love this song.

Right, gotcha... I did assume Dad rock was a derogatory description in your eyes! Never assume anything... ;)
Interesting analysis there. It'll be good to hear the album.

Watching yet again tonight it struck me that for a bunch of supposed po-faced Grim Northern Bastards there's an awful lot of smiles in this video..... :)

Ha Ha I thought that. Really enjoyed the video I watched it a while ago and have just re-watched it at work :)
