Just curious as to who is listening to NMA these days or "Still Listening" so how old are you ?
Of course this may only provide an insight into who uses the forums ............
-
46...not sure I act it. I think most are in the mid to late 40's here, with a few exceptions.
-
or DOB? Perhaps I`m too old to know what this means :'(
-
Date of birth, Lotus. Maybe its not widely used elsewhere.
-
I'm 28. Listening to New Model Army since 1999-2000. Something like that. Frightened now to be too young :)
-
I'm 41 and have been listening to NMA since '90-91, when my brother returned from London after a year spent there, with T&C original tape and a Green & Grey original tape single, plus a copied No Rest tape... The first their record I bought myself was LOHC, on my senior trip in Prague, I remember I bought that and RATM first album, both on CD-s, first CD-s I ever bought...
-
Lets just say February will be a milestone birthday. Been into nma since 84 when I first heard the vengeance lp as a unemployed teenager in Thatchers Britain, it of course was the time of the miners strike, the poll tax, whilst the steel and other large industries were being raped and the Falklands had not that long ended.
-
I'll be 50 in November. Been listening to NMA since I heard John Peel play Bittersweet on his Radio 1 show.
-
40 (sigh)
Listening to NMA since 1991. Hey, I can celebrate 25 years of NMA for me :)
-
38 in next December. From what i remember, listening to NMA since 1994, thanks to my brother who owned the cds of "Thunder and consolation", "The ghost of Cain" and "Radio Sessions 38/84". One year later NMA played in my hometown Rock festival in Evreux (Normandie), incredible!... i often wish they could play again in this city, we still have a cool Rock Festival in June and two nice venues for Rock gigs! :) ;)
-
51 on October 4th (NMA in Berlin)
Been listening since early '87
-
Red, hope to see you there on your birthday!
-
45, but don't feel a day older than 43.
listening since 1988
-
47 ;) ;) ;)
-
47 years in this life.
;)
-
16. Listening to NMA since I found Thunder&Consolation among my fathers CD's one or two years ago :)
-
I am the same age as Justin Sullivan he is actually a month and 2 weeks older than me. Maybe that is why I like and understand his music and lyrics so well. 8)
-
Don't forget: we are old, we are young.. 8)
-
41, i was actually shocked to learn that i was 41, i honestly thought i was 40 until the other day.
-
A sprightly 48 and 3 quarters for myself.
-
46 or nearly 1 depending on how you're counting ;) ;D
-
hi,
so, i´m 44 and been listening to the army since ´86. a big thank to my old school friend who heard the whole day Brave New World I+II.
that was the beginning of a big love :). bought my first record also in ´86... 51st state from my own money. was also my first record i bought from my money :).
and now, there are more than 270 records and about 170 cds in my collection. only from nma. to collect and hear and see the band is not the cheapest hobby ;D ;D ;D but it´s beautiful, like wellness for the soul ;D ;D
cheers
thomas

I'm 48 and have been listening to NMA since I was 16 so a grand total of 32 years
-
46 in just under 3 weeks. i can handle the age thing, what pisses me off is i'm starting to look my age. wish i had some of JS's magic potion.
-
Hit the big 50 back in April. :-[
It's only a number though, still feel like a sixteen year old, although not in the mornings.....
-
43. discovered the band when I was 18 and been a family member ever since.
then after many years I found out that Justin started studying Peace Studies at Bradford's university but he stopped to dedicate himself to the band. My wife and I we both studied there and we enjoyed our staying in Bradford.
This made the ties wven stronger somehow and I feel for real that this band id the most honest on the planet. For what they do and the way they do it.
I was supposed to meet Justin again tonight (he is playong a solo gig in Bradford) but because of some ongoing family tensions only my wife went.
I will see the guys and lots of you boys and girls on the road somewhere anyway.............

I'm 44 (1972), discovered in '85 when a friend recommended them to me in a record shop alongside the Lords of the new Church, had only the money for one, bought the Lords ... Then in '88 another friend tapped me Vengeance, and '90 Impurity tour and that was the start of one of my greatest musical journey
-
Wrong Subforum?
Anyway. I am 36 and always feeling/acting like 20 :)
-
y'all are a bunch of youngsters.... i'm 56. first heard nma when I was in the army stationed in Germany in 1989. they have these wonderful stores where you go in, pick a cd, pop it in the player and listen to it on headphones. such a thing was unheard of in the states! the t&c cover caught my eye, gave it a listen, promptly bought it and been listening ever since. been fortunate enough to see them live 3 times. once in Germany, and twice here in the states. sure would like to see them again, hint, hint.....
-
53 and still marching.
-
29 and a bit.
OK, it's rather a 'big' bit... :-\
OK... 46... and I don't look a day over 45, honest!
-
Born in the year of the horse.
Cheers

-
49, 50 next March. There's definitely a trend here ;D (I often look at the Forum even if I don't post- do use FB more)
-
44. Been following NMA since the late 80's I think when I heard 51st State in a rock club called Scrumpies in Leeds.
Cheers,
Zen
-
43. But kinda aging backwards since, uhm, 2012 I guess, so that makes me... 35.
In on NMA since 1988 - A friend brought a cassette tape to our club, 'Radio Sessions' on one side, Melissa Etheridges Debut on the other, and I'm pretty happy I stuck with NMA rather than ME. Was inevitable though - I don't think I heard such raw powerful sound paired with such deep, clever lyrics before. And of course I totally fell for the handsome devil that was slade the leveller ^^ really he's been some sort of guru for a good few years.
I always thought that album planted a lot of the seeds for how aspects of my life came out to be - how I got to be left while being wary of leftist ideology, being anarchist while being skeptical of the -ism, knowing how it's not always that easy to decide what's good and what's bad, accepting a 'spiritual' fundament underneath all things political... 'frightened' propably is rsponsible for how I now (28 yrs later...) still regard 'fear' to be one of the most destructive forces in life (yet unfortunately one that is so very present in our western world, and for a reason I guess as it's just so useful for the fuckers)
-
42.
Discovered NMA in 1989 on the exact same day I discovered weed. (both introduced by the same newly made friend).
I honestly can't think of a better day in my life ;)
-
39.
Since the Great British Music Weekend on the radio, January 1991.
I recorded this on cassette, and I remember the DJ at the end saying "blimey, they've been about a few years but boy they still know how to make great music".
25 years ago. :o
-
41 (but not for long...) I discovered NMA in 88/89 though my sisters vinyl.
Seemed to loose the plot for Love of Hopeless onwards and then back on board again for Eight.
-
I'm 50, born in '66 and first saw NMA in 1983, 33 years ago!!
First heard about them in early 83, saw them on the same bill with Death Cult, Killing Joke, Jayne County, Play Dead and loads more!
-
43. Been listening since 1992 when my boyfriend in college introduced me. Lost sight of them for a number of years until I happened to see that they would be playing in NYC and went to see them and fell in love again - I think that was about 2006?
-
49, first got in to NMA at the time of No Rest, lots of airplay, an appearance on top of the pops. Reinforced by the first gig in Leeds in November(?) 1985, around the time of Brave New World.
Only seems like yesterday in some ways, seems like an age ago in others....

True those words are .................. :)

I'm 37, and have been listening since 1997 (had heard them before but not much), when I went into Scorpion Records in High Wycombe and blew my first grant cheque on lots of Sisters Of Mercy vinyl. On my way to the counter I saw a copy of B-Sides And Abandoned Tracks for a couple of quid; I bought it and haven't looked back.

What a great album to come on board with. One of their very best, not a duff track on it.
-
I'm 43 next week, but only discovered NMA last year at Bearded Theory! It was instant for me, and felt like it was music I'd always known.
-
47, and not really sure how that happened....
first encountered nma in the library in my village, peterculter, in aberdeenshire, scotland. since then, i've lived in edinburgh, hong kong, tasmania, malaysia and am still on the road. strange days, all of them....
so many parallels with my own life in nma's/justin's lyrics.
-

Yup, it's a cracker. I can still feel hearing Drummy B for the first time, even now. So many great songs...
I think my favourites would include Courage, Ghost Of Your Father, Marry The Sea and Trust (although since seeing the NMA documentary I see the last one through different eyes, knowing what it's about).
The following week I went back to Scorpion Records looking for more NMA and came back with Impurity, and then made friends with a girl who lived in a course-mate's flat, and she was a big fan.
In fact, NMA was one of only three good things that came from my time at university.
-
DOB=1965, so I'm 51. On a NMA gig I feel like 25, but the day after rather like 80!
Listening to NMA since late 80's, first gig 1991 (or 92) in Erlangen. Took a (too) long break until I visited Chester in 2012 and met Ed playing in the pedestrian zone. Since then I'm in again!
-
18.09.71
exactly 1 year after Jimi Hendrix's passing. He was in the "27 club" along with Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin. I survived 27. (just) lets see how my late 40's go.....
-
47 but somehow I find that hard to believe. ;) I have been listening to NMA since...ummm...1987, I believe, first concert that year or 1988. :)
-
47, and not really sure how that happened....
47 but somehow I find that hard to believe. ;)

43 here. My wife just brought up a question about getting tats on 50's... She'd prefer Discharge and NMA tattoos so here we young ones will go I think!
Do it now or never!
Don't forget: we are old, we are young.. 8)
:)
-
my Identity Card says I'm 42, listening NMA since 90...Discover with T&C, 1st show 1 year after.
-
50 next time round, joined up on the Poisen St tour
-
56 ! Been following them since 84 when a mate of mine played a cassette of Vengeance on a long , cold. boring middle watch in Portsmouth Harbour !
-
I was 51 on 4th October so took myself to Berlin for the night, my first ever trip to berlin, didn't see much of it as I was still in the bar at 4am the morning after the gig and back at the airport at 9:30 :) :)
Last week and the week before i've felt 20 while at the gigs, even with having folks stood on my shoulders at all 10 of the gigs, I now feel about 75 :) :)
At my age you think I'd be more sensible :)
-
'Sensible'... whats that? I think I heard of the general concept once but then thought 'fook it...' ;)
It was a long time ago, to be fair.
-
41. Discovered NMA age 14 and been following them since; I started young!
-
I'm one of the oldies at 53
-
I`m one of the oldies, too
Wanted to go to a festival with Ten Years After and Jimi Hendrix - my parents didn`t allow that
They (and I) didn`t know, that it was the last live gig of Jimi (music of apes coming out and on a stage because of a banana - and I was too young to jump out of my closed room at home to try to be there) ;)
-
That was a really "perfect" festival
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love-and-Peace-Festival
I wasn`t there - still not sure I was too young to manage the problems beeing there or not
-
I’m 43. Discovered NMA with T&C. Saw them first during Impurity tour.
-
62 and I'm listening to NMA more than ever. In between the suppositories, blood thinners, high blood pressure meds, and dietary suppliments................................ :D
-
42 ... listen to NMA since the live in Palestrina town it was the 6th of July of 1997, I think it was Heaton's birthday
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYzJqzvoKRc
-
46. I remember Xmas 85? when I got "The Price" EP, "Better than them" gatefold and the Cure "A Forest" gatefold. Best Xmas ever.
-
43.I Bought my first NMA album in 23 December 1995.I still have the receipt. I had listened only 51st state at the bars I used to go then.
-
Big 50 this year. First time seeing the army was tiny grotty upstairs club in Folkestone in I think 83 or 84 (still at school then lol..) been seeing the band since then. Me and the better half have been doing an annual Christmas pilgrimage to the Notts gigs for the last few years. Looking forward to New Day Festival appearance as only 20 minutes from home lol!!!!! Welcome back to Kent!! Think last time you were this far south east was tour warm up gig at tunbridge wells forum in I think 2000.
Anyway been a lurker on this board for years and thought time to say hi, so hi!!!
Peace and love to everyone
Andy
-
Glad to see you're no longer lurking! Post often, please!
-
Fair play to the bloke who's 62 , but the amount of Medication he's on I would stay clear of the mosh pit ;D
-
48. I hope I die before I get old.. :P
-
So many youngsters.....
I'm 52 and first time I saw them was at Brockwell Park in London Aug 1984. Went to see Spear and The Damned and fell in love that day.
Paul
-
I turned 44 on the 25 March and I had my first Thunder and Consolation tattoo on my left shoulder and a nice version of it with some leaves around it to make it more mobile and looked less like a stamp. great work of my friend Mehmet here in Berlin. Best to all. Simon
-
Congrats on the new ink , also have a t&c tattoo tho mine is more a "stamp" as its a exact copy from the cd , got it 20 years ago when tattoos weren't what they are today, was done by the legendary Terry in Glasgow( rip) who's tattoo studio still bears his name to this day and is now run by his granddaughter

Hi Sniffer,I too first saw them at Brockwell Park.30 mins that changed my life.Got vivid memories of that gig though a lot of the more recent ones are a bit more blurred(alcohol or senility?probably a bit of both)
I remember they were not allowed to play an encore due to festival timetable and the crowd was livid. The d.j. played vengeance again to try to calm them down but it just frustrated them more. The next act(I think it was The Fall)were canned throughout their set.
Spent the next few weeks trying to buy Vengeance only to be told by one shop that it hadn't been released yet ::).
Oh,nearly forgot,I'm 54
-
I'll be 48 in July... first saw the army in 87, come September i would have been a fan for 30 years. And i still have my first ticket.
-
Welcome, Mark! Hope you like it here, we're a fun bunch... at least we keep telling ourselves that... :-\
Still got your first ticket? Er, probably should have used it by now, not sure it's still valid....

I'm 55 (DOB: 25/01/1962). I first saw NMA back in 1991, in my hometown São Paulo, Brazil. But I've been listening to the band since 1985. Still at it...
