Don't know if this has been done before (if so sorry) ?........I am sitting here biting my nails to the quick, waiting to hear how my team Northampton Town will fare against Walsall, defeat and we are down(though i have felt for the last few weeks we are doomed). If other results go our way we could stay up.So over to you which team do you support ?
-
I support Beşiktaş.Tomorrow big clash against galatasaray. Most important game of the whole season.Rise Black Eagle! ;)
-
Good luck for tomorrow............we lost...... :(

Kilmarnock - currently 5th in the spl after a terrible start. Steve Clarke came in a few months ago and totally turned things round including victories over Celtic and rangers. Today we got beat 5-3 by hibes. It's the town where I was born and grew up. Have the club logo tattooed on my arm . Have been a season ticket holder in the past n used to go to a lot of away games. Have seen win the Scottish cup as well as the league cup.
-
West Bromwich Albion, although I dont go as often as I used to. My saturdays are taken up watching my local non league team, Halesowen Town.

Thank you Ghosttrain. It's good to see people support hometown clubs.

Not really a football fan but to the extent that I follow it (ie not much at all) I'd have to say my home team, Crewe Alexandra. I've been to a few games over the years, purely for the social, meeting up with pals aspect of it all. And I always like to see how well (or, as usually is the case these days, how bad) my local team are doing.
Rather pissed off that recent events have tainted The Alex with a touch of the 'Saville' brush... >:(
-
Here in the United States of Trump soccer is still considered a female sport. Our little boys play baseball and basketball and football and hockey; and we put our little girls in soccer leagues.
So I am really a fan of our women's national team. The brand of soccer they play is exciting (far more goals than in men's soccer) and, yes, we are the best team on planet Earth. A joy to watch. (And number 13 Alex Morgan is the hottest female athlete on planet Earth. Makes watching soccer very easy.)

I support the mighty Leeds United who are currently shite and have been for a number of years. As ever were due to finish mid table for a change. Just back from watching Manic Street preachers in Manchester and they finished with Everything Must Go and the accompanying video playing in the background has Leeds fans on the beach in Bournemouth when they got promoted to the old 1st Division back in the late 80's, oh happy days.
-
Worked with a guy back in the seventies who was a massive Leeds fan, always claimed the song Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues was written about them..............i have my doubts.
-
Just reading report of our game yesterday.........we can still avoid relegation with a 9 goal victory over Oldham.. ;D :(

Haha we get to play each other again next season. Although WTF, the Dog heads will be the highest placed West Midlands team!!!! that aint right. boing boing

Well it's really good to see people who supports non-mainstream clubs like you.I'm really glad and happy to know that. This is the real soul.If I were a uk person I'd probably go for Celtic or Liverpool or Newcastle United (for the sake of that black&white striped jersey). After our 8-0 scandal against Liverpool I've lost my all respect to club.I had the home kit and the flag of them in my wardrobe and my favorite guys Gordon Milne and John Benjamin Toshack (They both trained our mighty black eagle Besiktas and Gordon gave us three year league championship) of Liverpool f.c former players are respected coaches in our 115 years of history.Gordon is a living legend for us.But after that night Liverpool f.c made all the ******* jokes, released a shirt called cl record and went so far till we kicked them out of uefa.Anyway that was just reasonable I guess not taking this so serious,we would do the same thing maybe if we were on the winning side. That's the way it goes.
I think the premier league is the best still since 90's..Best camera shootings, pitches, chantings, and of course the play.Stadiums also look really well. The Italian serie A was also really nice to watch in the mid 90's but premiere looks the best.Recently started to following the Scottish Premiere League highlights and I'm likely to focus on it cos they play really fast with very young players.Fascinating.That's the spirit of the beautiful game.
-
Been a Chelsea fan since 1975, seen as many bad seasons as good. Used to go when I could, but the premier league is too expensive for me.
-
The mighty ( ;D ;D ;D ;D) Derby County - play offs this year but Premiership is not good for us: we have the lowest ever points total recorded for a season ::).
-
Sorry Anna, but the play offs are no good for you...............as recent history has shown.Best of luck any way (i think you will need it).............. :( :(
-
Sorry Anna, but the play offs are no good for you...............as recent history has shown.Best of luck any way (i think you will need it).............. :( :(
Well something went wrong cos we won the 1st leg against Fulham ;D
-
Hey, Crewe Alex finished 15th (out of 24) in League 2! That's a proper bloody result for the Alex! ;D
-
Kilmarnock finished 5th (out of 12) Scottish premiership, with there highest spl total of 59 . Excellent considering we were rock after 6 games, victories over Celtic and rangers included . Was good not to worried about relegation for a change. Celtic were champions again with Aberdeen 2nd . Relegated were Ross county ( Dingwall) with partick thistle ( Glasgow) in the relegation play off
-
Don't want to spoil your day Anna...........but it has happened again,ah well always next year as us fans say. :'(
-
Yeah - normal service is resumed ;D ;D ;D ;D

Chelsea fan since 1970 but not been to Stamford bridge for 20 years.Too bloody expensive to travel from N.Wales.Used to go regularly in the early 80's.(then discovered NMA ;D).Got a soft spot for Wrexham and have seen a few of their giant killing exploits over the years, the best beating Newcastle 4-1 in the F.A.Cup when they were 2 divisions apart.Teams used to try to win then. Now it seems teams go out not to lose.I know,I know.Grumpy old man.Couldn't even get very excited about yesterdays win over United ;D
-
Scunthorpe United my home team and I also go and watch Glasgow Rangers when I can
Scunthorpe have just lost the League 1 play off semi finals against Rotherham
Hopefully the fortunes of Rangers may change now they have Stevie Gerrard as the new manager, as long as he gets the funds he needs to strenghten the squad so we can finally challenge Celtic again
A quiz for you is can you name the 3 England captains who have played for Scunthorpe?
Yes, one of them is a trick answer :)

Good luck tomorrow night.Still trying to work out why we sold Mo Salah :-[
-
Half time,so far so good for Liverpool..........how much are they going to miss Salah in the second half ?
-
Oh dear, listening to game on the wireless haven't seen the keepers two howlers.I played as a (right footed left back).but have also played between the sticks.....it is a thankless task NO hiding place. But it sounds like he had a shocker.will wait 'till i see them on T.V. Even without the mistakes it seems like the best team won.
-
I have just watched the highlights on T.V. wow, even as a Northampton Town fan and a fan of the game for over 45 years i have never seen such shocking goal keeping errors. You have to wonder where his career goes from here ?...NOT at Liverpool i would imagine...he let the team down badly.
-
Manchester City, the champions. Always supported them, man and boy. Used to have a season ticket. Oh and the Man City ladies are pretty bloody good as well.
-
my home town team Montpellier Herault Sport Club (french team), ... and I'm a long time LFC fan

Don't think it is worth starting a new thread for this.Is anybody looking forward to The World Cup Finals ? (i am )............There must be at least one A B E fan on here ;)
-
What's a b e lol . Don't think tonight's game will be up to much but looking forward to Spain v Portugal tomoz . As for my English neighbours I don't mind them doing ok . The main thing that grinds my gears is the commentators n pundits (how long before 66 gets mentioned or they can play so n so in the quarter/ semi final)
-

I get that Pol. I think expectations in the 80's to 00's were way up there!! I think its more realistic now. Maybe we just cling to past glories cos we have bugger all else!!!
-
The opening match............not much of a game ,but some cracking goals :)
-
Portugal v Spain.........wow what a game,it will have to be something mighty special to beat it....and not even out of the group stages yet ! :o
-
I give credits and respects to Christiano Ronaldo. He is absolutely better than messi in my opinion.God of freekicks.
-
Mexico beat Germany, wow what a shock.............
-
Mexico beat Germany, wow what a shock.............
Germany always start slowly!!!
-
Not so sure about that ?.........last lost their opening game in 1982..
-
Not neccessarily meaning losing the first game. Its rare Germany set the group stages alight is all.
-
Ok sorry, i get your meaning.Still think they have a great chance of winning it (again)..........
-
Hope not. It would be boring if Germany won again.
Thought England showed some encouraging signs last night. Can see them making it to the next round. Looking forward very much to the Poland match this afternoon. They have been superb in the qualification stages, Lewandowski the tops scorer in Europe in the qualifiers. That said, he was their star striker in the last Euro's and did not shine. Will be do a Ranaldo or a Messi in his first match :-\
-
Well so much for Poland. As for England thot they were good for the first half hour or so. Negatives let there heads go down after the equaliser n both goals were from corners. Ducks for cover.
-
Pol,do NOT duck for cover.........i thought England were really poor, but NO all my mates thought they were really good, played really well............must have watched a different game to me.Even the pundits on ITV gave them 7/10 8/10.? ? ?....I have been watching football for a long, long, time and know the result is the main thing..............but please do not kid yourself they played well. :o
-
Ok sorry, i get your meaning.Still think they have a great chance of winning it (again)..........
Quite agree. You can never ever write them off and they usually come good in the knockouts.
I think England wont set the world alight but I dont think the expectation is there anymore. Well, til the media line them up for a fall.
-
Completely agree you cannot write off Germany yet. Some teams in tournaments take time to get going. Personally I would rather anyone other than Germany or Brazil take the cup - just for variety. The England match was a bit wishy-washy but there were signs there of potential. The Poland match, wow, I was amazed how poorly they played to say they are ranked 8th in the world. You do have to give some credit to the Senegal lads, some of them were chasing after the ball at full pelt right to the end. They looked difficult to play against
-

Pol, are you supporting a "B" team in the tournament, if so who ?
-
Not really supporting anyone, just looking to some good football.
-
Same as Pol,I don't support any country. One thing I cant stand is Spanish football. That 'tiki taka' endless passing football invented by guardiola. It makes me sick and today really wanted Iran to beat em,at least a draw. They played really well defense till the first goal.I hope an unexpected country wins the cup.Looking forward to Sweeden vs Germany.Going to be tough. The best thing about tournament is the Mexican fan whose wife did not let him go to Russia for the world cup and his mates carried his cardboard to there. :D

Gotta agree with this, first half hour was good but after that looked like sunday morning down the park stuff to me. Watched it in Israel so haven't a clue what the commentators were saying but even in Hebrew it sounded somewhat mocking ! Reading the reports in the UK press though I certainly thought I had watched a different game ;D
None of the usual "big beasts" seem to have got going yet so maybe there is a chance for someone new to win the thing, for the moment it looks like Portugal for my money.
-
Cheers Anna, that makes a total of two people who actually saw and agree what a poor performance it was. Lets hope for something better on Sunday.......... ::) Portugal i think not,a one man team imho.........lets wait and see.
-
Very messi goal keeping for Argentina . Football not brilliant so far, but some interesting results in this World Cup.
-
Worst referees ever for a world cup. They can't see anything, weird decisions.I personally can't enjoy the world cup like i used to do but some matches really great like tonight .Focused on Beşiktaş players Pepe,Vida and Quaresma performances.Very good so far.I think Denmark,Croatia and England will push till the end as secret favorites of the cup.And won't be surprised if Germany would be eliminated.
-
Argentina rank rotten. Nearly as bad as Ian Wright's shirt the other night or Patrice evra' s bow tie n jumper combo lol
-
Argentina rank rotten.
And such horrendous sportsmanship. None at all, actually.
Kicking the ball into a downed opponent's face? Walking off the field without even shaking hands with opponents?
Extremely unlikeable team. Good riddance if they get bounced early.
-
Today
Best wishes for Iceland for the second half :)
-
Belgium doing to Tunisia what England failed to do............. ::)
-
Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.Gary Lineker
-
OK, the germans win today ;D
But my best wishes still go to Iceland to continue ;)
-

Yes sir.I really respect them. How fantastic would it be, if they could make it till the end.
-
Gutted for Sweden, football can be a cruel mistress.
-
Belgium doing to Tunisia what England failed to do............. ::)
...and how do you feel about England today then putting double the number of goals Belgium did against Panama?
-
Very happy indeed..........Panama were very poor, but England did what they had to do and did it well.Lets see what happens next.
-
Blimey :o Germany were poor. TBH they never looked like scoring. South Korea didn't seem to offer much quality in the final third for most of the game but you couldn't see Germany scoring (quite rated the SK keeper). Somehow Germany played in a way that reminded me of England not so long ago - all those fantastic footballers but no sense of a team.
Very interesting to see how England get on against Belgium tomorrow, The win over Panama whilst not unexpected was a joy to watch. The big difference with the current team is that they seem to enjoy being there and are up for it. Perhaps the lack of expectation going into the tournament has been liberating.
Croatia have played the best so far I reckon but all in all it seems a very open competition as nobody appears to be an obvious frontrunner.

Surprised by Germany but its an historic moment. I still think England will go out in the quarters, which for me is a minor progression from last time round. They seem to be playing as a team and are united. Shame the press is already building them up for the fall. It was Panama after all
-
Brazil looked excellent when they turned on the style, good to see my Swiss mates thru
-
Ah well previous 3 posts have saved me a lot of work,my post would have read very much the same as Anna's.Agree totally about Germany..........i never saw that happening (until the first game against Mexico)when the writing was on the wall. They were my tip to win it ....what do i know ::) Now i suppose i will put the mockers on Brazil as i tip them to win it now ;D
-
England v Belgium...............your thoughts ? ? ? Come on Anna save me from having to post :)
-
England v Belgium
Very difficult to judge in the grand scheme of things. Both teams making lots of changes n was it best to finish 1st or 2nd in the group. Taking the game as a 1 off Belgium were certainly the better team won . Think Columbia will give England a good game. Belgium must be in with a shout
-
It was like watching England at every other tournament. Dull as dishwater, huffed and puffed but didnt blow the house down. Columbia will be a tough game. I dont buy into the they planned it line and pundits are getting carried away again with semi final talk. But still. We go again.
-
England defo tried to win , the pundits on itv are very biased this year it's normally the bbc
-
Wasn't very impressed with England tonight. But, England expects to make it past the group stage and it did. I doubt they will go much further. Having watched all the teams play now I would put my money on Brazil with a side bet on Spain.
-
Dark Horses for me are Croatia
-
Agree with above comments,a very typical England performance. They did'nt seem to have much idea, and agree totally the better team won.Stating the blindingly obvious it could go either way against Colombia, but play like that and i think that will be the end of Englands World Cup adventure.
-
Was all a bit nothing really wasn't it? I don't think that was what we will see against Colombia though, more of an opportunity for squad members to get some playing time under their belt. Cracking goal from the Belgian fella :)
Fair play to Japan for going through on the fair play rule :D

Did you read one of the comments for that song? Here it is:
From vengeance to football how sad.
The guy kind of nailed it.
I felt the same when New Order released that World Cup "World In Motion" song.
From "Ceremony" to a soccer song, how sad.
-
There always 1 sad person willing to be negative. Probably some troll hoping for a reaction.
Not my favourite nma song by a long way but it was for charity and a subject the band have never written about. It was clearly a 1 off fun song .For a football song it's 1 of the best. Vengeance was 35 years ago.

I think it was an excellent catchy football song they made. At the time of the 2014 World Cup, I did email the BBC with a link to the song / video in the hope they may have used it in their highlights or goal rounds ups and pointed out that the band had a strong following in Brazil but sadly it came to nothing.
Out of interest, it is still the only song I have ever down-loaded.

Omg. Four years ago. Whats that all about?? Personally Im not keen but I support the reason for it and nothing wrong with a break from the norm.

I always thought that Manic Street Preachers did a cracker of a 'football song' with 'Together Stronger (C'mon Wales)' from Euro 2016...

Well I fancied France to beat Argentina but didnt expect the current 4-2 scoreline. I missed the last two goals hoovering my car. Not a great game but plenty of excitement. Quite impressed with France.
-
If you had watched it all , it ended 4-3 lol . Personally I thought it was good n a well deserved win for the French who are starting to look good
-
Enjoyable match to watch. I do a little sorry for Messi have a poor tournament but that's football for you.
-
Been really enjoying the world cup.Yesterdays games were great. The French look like they will be hard to beat.Would love to see the Spain v Russia game but there's a certain gig today in Manchester so no doubt if it's worth watching there will be some highlights somewhere on the net.Ronaldo and Messi both going home home on the same day.As some one said many years ago"One swallow never made a spring" :D
-
France looked good but Argentina didn't so I'm not sure what that portends cos Argentina did manage to score 3. Perhaps the French defence is vulnerable. Uruguay did the business but I'm afraid I can't say anything positive about a team that includes a player who should never have been allowed on a field again after the last world cup. Gut feeling and hope is for France to go through to the semi.
-
Lots of smaller teams beating the established ones which is pleasing. Particularily as some eejit on a BBC thread said the likes of S. korea shouldnt be there. Probably a top 4 premier league fan. Well bugger off with your top four. Footies built on underdogs. Brazil v Croatia final. Id have gone Brazil V France if it was possible.
-
Well done Russia,Spain much better team technically, but beaten by their own negativity.........Croatia v Denmark, well whats to say ? Very poor game, surely Croatia can't play that badly again (and win) ? Really looking forward to Mexico v Brazil today, should be a good one.......
-
A pretty comfortable day at the office for Brazil,Mexico started o.k.but seemed to run out of steam. The less said about a certain Brazil players histrionics the better......................best team won.
-
Japan v Belgium what a game.................what a World Cup......
-
The best 45 mins of the world cup so far
-
I feel really sorry for Japan tbh. Although it needs some of the bigger teams through to make it harder for Brazil.
-
We were 3 friends in a bar last night watching Japan-Belgium and drank heavily really. We all had Japan's national team shirts on us and suddenly German ZDF channel guys came to our table for a street interview about Germany's loss in the world cup.I really don't remember what I told them.If you see or hear some drunk person in japan shirt and saying stupid things on ZDF that's probably me ;D
-
Well done England i thought they were great (that's something i never ever thought i would say).Stood up well in the face of Colombian intimidation, roughing up the penalty spot was a new one on me.What to say about the penalty shoot out ?..........hopefully a Ghost laid to rest,we shall see.If Sweden play like they did against Switzerland i think we have every chance of beating them.Good Luck England :)
-
Fair play to England they were the better team and deserved to win especially after the Columbia's antics. Thought they were good for the first 20 minutes then lost there way a lot .
-
Colombia - bit of a disgrace really, I'm quite impressed that none of the England players did a Beckham ala against Argentina 98. Bit nerve wracking last night but they did the job and onwards.....
Felt sorry for Japan but Belgium didn't give up and made it through, not sure if they've got anything in reserve. Hey Issac I'll keep an eye for ya' - yesterdays games were on SWR1 though.
We'll see what the weekend brings :)
-
Well done Belgium. Very pleasing result. the cup will be lifted either by a new team or a team that has only lifted it once before.
-
Yes totally agree well done Belgium they played really well and deserved the win.I also thought France were worthy winners too,it is really open now.I hope Russia deliver tomorrow (i have nothing against Croatia) but it would be nice for the home nation to get through especially after all the stick they got before the tournament (worst Russian Team ever Etc.) Oh yeah...................come on England 8)
-
I hope Russia deliver tomorrow...it would be nice for the home nation to get through especially after all the stick they got before the tournament (worst Russian Team ever Etc.) Oh yeah...................come on England 8)
Come on, now. That Russian team won only one game before the tournament (lost seven) and was the lowest ranked team ever in the tournament's history. Yet, they've suddenly won 3 of 4 in the Cup. Hmmm.
You do realize that country has State Run doping, no? The entire country was banned from the last Olympics! Commentators have noted that the Russian soccer players are running just as fast at the 95th minute in the match as they were at the 3rd minute of the match.
Do the math....
Something is rotten in Denmark...I mean in Russia.
-
Past football tournament winners have been the ones who find a winning streak at the right time.Russia are finding theirs. Also noticable are the number of teams remaining who lack superstars.IMHO,when you have a Messi,Neymar,Ronaldo etc the tactics always revolve around them.Stifle them and plan A goes up in smoke. While Messi and Ronaldo are definately the best players in their respective squads,I'm not so sure about Neymar.I think that the Brazil manager should have been brave enough to sub Neymar.and maybe the team would have played more as a TEAM.Sweden and Russia have no stars let alone superstars and have got where they are by teamwork.Must say Belgium finally played as a team last night. And although not a fan,man of the match had to go to Marian Fellaini ,He was immense.Really enjoyed it.
-
Great post dilla, summed it up perfectly..
-
Belgium certainly have lots of great players maybe not quite in the superstar bracket. Thought they definitely deserved to win even if they tired at end
-
I think this makes for a better World Cup, with the bigger nations out. I still dont think England will win, but theyve done well, without any supposed superstars.
-
Colombia - bit of a disgrace really, I'm quite impressed that none of the England players did a Beckham ala against Argentina 98. Bit nerve wracking last night but they did the job and onwards.....
Felt sorry for Japan but Belgium didn't give up and made it through, not sure if they've got anything in reserve. Hey Issac I'll keep an eye for ya' - yesterdays games were on SWR1 though.

I heard that it's only radio interview Anna,so no worries :)
-
Dilla your idea about Neymar is something I respect but to be realistic no coach in the world would sub him in my opinion. They already dominated the second half and 9 shots directly saved by Courtois and brazillian strikers missed a lot of %100 goal positions. And who to play instead of Neymar? Coutinho,Firmino were already in squad.Belgium deserved to win.Congrats.
As for Sweden-England most people expecting a counter attack style from sweden but anything could happen.I always thought before the cup England is the favorite waiting behind. And now its time to strike for them.If you own a player like Kane you could change the score anytime. My expectation is 0-0 first half and the England winning at second half. For Russia-Croatia I think the crotians will score in two half and win.I expect a lot from Luka Modric personally. Both games will be tough and enjoyable.
-
!!!!!! PICKFORD !!!!!
The winner of that match for me. Wonderful saves. First England performance that was high quality for me. Blimey,,, dare we start to believe ??
-
What a great performance from England,i thought Sweden were very poor .England by far the better team, and as for Pickford WOW what a keeper...........Interesting game tonight, but if England play like they did today i think they can beat either Russia or Croatia.
-
Blimey,,, dare we start to believe ??
Doesn't this all set up English sports fans for their greatest let-down in history?
Don't you folks across the pond fear that?
-
Past football tournament winners ...
Good post.
But I do feel strongly that some on that Russia team is doping. You don't go from lowest ranked team ever in a World Cup tournament to nearly a semi-finals berth.
Regarding your thoughts on star players: True, teams rely on them far too much...but then again they are stars for a reason. They can (usually) get the job done.
As for your thought of benching Neymar. Whoa. No way in hell would a Neymar or other star player ever be benched by a coach. One day here in our baseball the New York Yankees manager pulled super-star Reggie Jackson from the game right in the middle of it. Needless to say there was a fight in the dugout between the two. Happened 40 years ago and we still talk about the time super-star Reggie Jackson was yanked out of a game. Benching a super-star? It is an insane thing to do. Only a nut would do it (and the Yankee manager was a certifiable nut, by the way).

Blimey,,, dare we start to believe ??
Doesn't this all set up English sports fans for their greatest let-down in history?
Don't you folks across the pond fear that?
Not sure I understand your question Space. If we loose our next two matches we have come fourth in the 2018 World Cup, only the third time we have gone so far in the contest. Where is the let-down ?
-

First off, what is "Space"? I am WHIRLWIND!
Secondly, your post reads like a typical English sports fan --- satisfied with fourth place! You do realize that is so stereotypical of an English sports fan, don't you? You will pat your sports stars on the back for a fourth place finish.
Right now you are two games -- 180 minutes away -- from the biggest sporting prize on Earth. My point is that coming this close would be setting up most fans for the biggest let-down ever. Grandfathers would tell their grandkids of that long off time in 2018 when we were thiiiiiiiis close. But you, oddly, seem OK with what the team has accomplished thus far. That is not the norm around the world. Americans play to win! We have a saying over here: Second place is just first of the losers.

Well Whirlygig, I dare say Shush and me have seen enough let downs since we watched the England team at a young age. So you stop buying the hype. Best performance since I was 20. Says it all.
-
Well done Croatia! Im on their side also because of Beşiktaş player Vida scored today and Fabian Mrmic&Slaven Bilic. And happy to see that russian anti-football style is out of tournament. So England v.s Croatia will be really a joyful game to watch. It is hard to make a guess who to win.Crotians looked very tired today.English team on the contrary looks so fit.If Pickford plays like he did today very hard for crotia to make goals though they have far more skilled strikers and midfielders than sweden.
-
"First off, what is "Space"? I am WHIRLWIND!"
Seriously, you have asked me the same question several times while at the same time claiming to have an I.Q. of 14.8. --if so, work out the answer ::)
-
Surely you mean Do the math.................. ;D
-
It was a graveyard smash.....
Sorry. Misread you ;D

Past football tournament winners ...
Good post.
But I do feel strongly that some on that Russia team is doping. You don't go from lowest ranked team ever in a World Cup tournament to nearly a semi-finals berth.I'm Welsh.2 years ago in the Euros we beat Belgium and shot up the rankings. After the world cup it would be interesting to see how many places Russia have risen. One thing history teaches us is that there is always a surprise team who over acheives,be it South Korea,Denmark,Wales or Russia.
Regarding Neymar-One man doesn't make a team(or as a very good songwriter put it-"One swallow never made a spring" :D
-
Surely you mean Do the math.................. ;D
My favorite expression. And I learned something whilst berating an Englishman with that expression. The chap wrote back that across the pond it is said, "Do the maths."
For some odd reason in the English language math can be pluralized. In the American language math is never maths. I am often so glad that when we kicked the Brits out of North America, we also got rid of your silly language and created and use our own.

An interesting final 4 :) Without claiming greatness for England I don't see anything from the other teams that we should be particularly afraid of, actually I think that goes for all 4 teams. I imagine France -v- Belgium will be a bit of a blast seeing as they are neighbours :)
Nice to see England players other than Kane scoring. Better to not be just a one trick pony and for such a little fella Pickford is a rather good keeper :D Hope I'm not messing with karma but I've a sneaky feeling it'll be round 2 of Belgium -v- England in the final.
When you think that 211 teams are eligible to join the World Cup tournament to have made it through to the last 4 in the finals is an amazing achievement regardless of what happens next :) Got no space for anyone who doesn't understand that and would view it as a failure :)
-
...Got no space for anyone who doesn't understand that and would view it as a failure :)
.
Miss Anna, not being argumentative, just trying to understand how the other side of the pond thinks.
You do not see that second place is really first of the losers? That is the way we think over here.
The World Cup isn't music -- it isn't a subjective entity. It is OBJECTIVE. Clear cut -- winner and losers. If you do not win, you are a loser. If England does not win, that makes them the same as Ecuador who wasn't even in the tournament. Both nations failed. Both nations are losers.

Nicely put, my friend. And can I just say that in a UK that seems to be so divided and in so much of a mess, its nice to see so much positivity, no matter how briefly it might last. We'll take what we can get, eh?

...your IQ of 14.8......
.
Whether you made an innocent typo or tried to make a joke, it must be said that my IQ has been officially marked at 148.
I will embarrassingly admit that at one point my IQ was marked at a frighteningly low 141. I suppose I must have been reading Master Ray's brainless posts that day and my low IQ score reflected that.
But, yes, my IQ is 148. That places me in the classifications "Genius" and "Very Superior Intelligence." Not bragging, just stating the truth.

Well that comment was completely uncalled for imho. You may have a high iq. You may even think youre humorous. What you actually are is a very unpleasant individual. MR has avoided poking sticks with you, given your history, but I'll be damned if I let that snide dig go unanswered. I swore Id ignore your nastiness, and from now on I will again. Disgusting.
-
Sigh...
OK. I've been getting complaints about this thread recently.
It's Sunday evening, I have better things to do than sit moding the board because of stupid, goading comments and equally pathetic replies.
IT STOPS NOW.
I'm tired and it's been extremely humid today so I'm not in the mood. Anymore pathetic behaviour gets you a 30 day trip to the naughty step. Comprendez?
Seriously, if you poke a bear expect what you expect but snide replies and an arm ripped off?...
-
Sorry, Mssr. Savage. I see that friendly little jibes are verboten here. (Unless those jibes are directed at Whirlwind. They are allowed. But those I laugh off. Somebody clocked my IQ at 14.8! I thought that was funny.)
Can't we at least rib each other over our national soccer teams? Are you seriously suggesting that the most common thing on Earth - ragging on the other guy's team - is verboten?!? If USA were in this World Cup I would accept any ribbing. That's the fun of being a fan.
I hereby apologize for calling Master Ray's posts brainless.
-
Your "little" jibes are not friendly, they are uniformly antagonistic and I strongly suggest you use your vaunted IQ and figure out what happens next if you continue annoying everyone, especially me.
-
Um,USA "were" in the world cup. They came 5th in the qualifying rounds behind Mexico,Costa Rica,Panama and Honduras. In some peoples minds this makes them "losers".As relative newcomers to the game, fair play to them for even competing.IMHO,compared with other American sports e.g. Baseball(to us Brits this is the game called rounders which everyone at school, fit or not could play)and American football(why do they call it that when they hardly ever kick it :D)soccer (to use the american word)has a greater degree of individual skill, requires less brawn than brain and despite some play acting by supposedly injured players does not require a ton of protective clothing.
I am not having a dig at American sports-each to their own.If they like it,fine. but to me football is the greatest game on earth and to be in the last 4 of the world cup is a great acheivement, just as qualifying was to Panama 8) 8)
-
Belgium! We won all our games. :D :D We deserve to get the world cup for the first time!
-
Ive heard it called the Golden Generation of Belgian football. They are doing very well and anyone that knocks Brazil out is a very strong contender. Belgium v France will be a good match. Good luck.
-
Um,USA "were" in the world cup. They came 5th in the qualifying rounds....
.
Semantics here, but no we weren't in the World Cup. Did our team get on a plane and go to Russia? You know we didn't so you know we weren't in this World Cup. Playing in qualifiers does not make one a World Cup team.
Every foreigner says they do not want America to embrace soccer. The size of our nation, the resources available, the money we could put behind a team would make every World Cup a competition just to see who would come in second after the American team. Just look at the Olympics. Summer, winter we dominate and all other countries simply play for second best. Same would happen if we go full tilt on soccer.
I will say that interest in soccer and our abilities have increased a lot in my life span. We do well in World Cup (in South Africa we were in the same Group as England and we won that group over England. Remember that?) and many of our players play in premier soccer leagues around the world.
As for me, I don't like the sport. Far too slow, far too silly at times, not cerebral enough, not tough enough.... However, I do LOVE the World Cup. Great tournament. Great passion. International rivalries. Superstar athletes. It is a blast to watch.
-
Completely disagree. If you enter the contest and the qualification groups then you have actively taken part in the World Cup. Remember - in Russia now it is currently the World Cup Finals. A place where 32 teams who made it through the qualification stage compete in the final stage. An achievement in its own right. Two of the greatest footballing nations failed to qualify, Holland and Italy.
I think is very presumptuous of you to believe that if all America got behind football, they would dominate the game. As Dilla pointed out is is a game of skill not physical perfection. All the money USA could throw into it cannot make people natural football players. How much does Belgium spend on the sport compared to say Germany ? and yet Belgium is a strong contender to take the cup. The size of your nation, do you refer to your large population ? by that logic -- where is China on the international football stage ?
-
Completely disagree. ...
Oh, go Shush yourself.
1. If qualifying is such a part of the World Cup, then why are they going to go from 32 to 48 next Cup?
Numerous answers but the obvious one is qualifying is uninteresting, nobody watches, who cares, it is not a part of the World Cup. They know that, so they up it to 48 teams in the next Cup; makes it more obvious that they view qualifying as rather a silly waste of time. (And already talk of 64 teams for 2026.) Get this right: qualifying is not the World Cup.
2. Yes, if we had a national push behind soccer we would win nine out of the next ten World Cups. I gave a concrete example: the Olympics. You gave nothing to support your position other than, "Oh, no you would not win."
-
Nobody watches qualifying matches ??? What planet do you live on ? Qualifying matches for England at home completely fill Wembley stadium and are televised.
If you had a national push behind "soccer" you would be just the same as the 100's of other nations doing the same, and considering you have no skill heritage behind you, you would be a team that at full effort would seldom make it past the first round.
The sports involved with the Olympics are sports that can be greatly enhanced with money - training, sponsorship, worthwhile wages for the participants. America will always do well in the Olympics. The ego of the nation would not allow otherwise. The ego of the nation holds the States back from being a great football nation. Could you ever truly take part in something that you are not guaranteed to win?
Shush myself !!!!!
Blow away Whirlwind. You said earlier you do not like the sport football-- so why are you even taking part in this thread - is it just to cause more trouble and arguments, I think so.
-

3. Blow away Whirlwind. You said earlier you do not like the sport football-- so why are you even taking part in this thread - is it just to cause more trouble and arguments, I think so.
.
1) You clearly are not aware that a national push from the USA is not like a national push from Wales. I suggest you watch some WWII documentary. When we get involved in something full tilt, the results are a HUGE win.
2. So you believe that qualifying matches draw the same audience as actual World Cup matches? Wow.
3. I said I do not like the sport of soccer, but I LOVE the World Cup. We are talking World Cup here...that's why I am participating. Believe me, I ain't getting involved in any thread about Hibs vs. Totenham.
-
Lol
Vietnam didn't go too well .
Hibes n Spurs are in different leagues therefore they don't play each other
Stadiums only hold so many people and are full for most qualifying matches ok the tv audience might not be as big but it's still sizable
The world cup has different countries unlike the world series
-
Space ,-- "2. So you believe that qualifying matches draw the same audience as actual World Cup matches? Wow."
No where here or anywhere have I claimed that, and why would I , its not the case.
You did however say that "nobody watches" the qualification games , which is absolute bollocks.
How would you know how the qualifiers are received in other countries ? I would be willing to bet that you like most Americans have never set foot out of your own country to have experienced such things.
-
I would be willing to bet that you like most Americans have never set foot out of your own country
.
I've been to New Jersey.
And to answer seriously: Uhh, why would I an American want to leave my country to visit some sub-standard nation? There is nothing that any country can offer that we do not have in America.
Hot girls? check
Great food? check
Mountains? check
Desert? check
Jungle? check
Beaches? check
Frozen tundra? check
Big city? check
The arts? check
Historical sites? check
I could go on with that list forever. Whatever some foreign nation might have, we do too (and it is better here). Take England, for instance. Why the hell would I ever go there? London is just a poor man's New York City. Wembley is just a poor man's Yankee Stadium. Princess Kate is just a poor man's Ivanka Trump.
The reason why Americans do not really travel abroad is because our nation is HUGE! We literally have everything here. Any topography the world has - we have. Any climate the world has - we have (remember, Alaska and Hawaii are America states...we sometimes forget that, too).
Nothing in the world like America. Hell, I wouldn't even want to visit another galaxy. I know what we have in America is better.
-
The world cup has different countries unlike the world series
.
Oh, you silly foreigner.
Toronto was in the World Series (twice).
Toronto is in Canada.
Canada is another country.
And just to let you know, it's now called a World Series because of the players involved. Our baseball is like the United Nations. The Yankees alone have team members from eight different nations.
-
yawn
-
Wow Whirlwind did'nt you read Viv's posts yesterday ?.........nothing to do with me but (maybe i am wrong) i think you are sailing pretty close to the wind............ ::)
-

I've been to New Jersey.
I have been to New Jersey also. Not a particularly impressive place if truth be known, but its nicer that New York and with much nicer people.
-
Old Jersey (original) Jersey was pretty nice until greedy politicians decided to ruin it.Decided we did'nt need traditional tourism (ie working class people coming over year after year).staying at the same hotels,B&B's they had stayed at for years. No,we needed high spending tourists from wealthier countries coming......you don't have to be a genius to work out these people do NOT visit the same places year after year, they can afford to come once and visit other places the next.So once again we rely on being a very dodgy financial off shore tax haven.............The Rich Get Rich The Poor Get Etc. Etc. Still we have lovely beaches and the Government have yet to work out how to put GST/VAT on sunshine...Maybe they are trying to block out the Sun with all the new high rise office buildings in our new Financial District being built opposite where i live ? >:(
-
Wow Whirlwind did'nt you read Viv's posts yesterday ?.........nothing to do with me but (maybe i am wrong) i think you are sailing pretty close to the wind............ ::)
Come on, Ghosttrain, quit trying to stir up trouble. I have been respectful. I can be quite engaging and fun.
Must say, I really do learn from internet forums that people outside of New York are VERY different. No ability to laugh at themselves, thin-skinned, everything is a personal affront... And it's not a foreign thing. People outside of New York and Jersey are like that too here in the States.
-
I can assure you i was not trying to stir up trouble, the very opposite my friend.I (and now i don't know why) was trying to be helpful in case you had'nt read Viv's post..........First and last time i will do it. >:(
-
France shaded it,well done my nearest neighbours.............see you in the final (hopefully) :)
-
Was hoping for an England / Belgium re-match. Belgians have been very impressive in this Cup. They prove is doesn't matter about the size of the country or population, its all about that undefinable quantity that makes a good team.
-
To be honest i was'nt too bothered who won (Love Belgium /Love France) just wanted a good game. If i were a gambling man my money would have been on Belgium , but hey ho..........lets hope for a great game and great result tomorrow..
-
I think France are gonna win it. Very good team with some talented individuals. I thought they made Belgium look ordinary.
-
And, as someone who knows nothing about football, here's a silly thing that just made me laugh...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIswPi1UA28
;)
-
Not the best semi final ever was it? France weren't all that really although they looked very solid but all Belgium offered was down the right and cross it in : over and over again, even with 10 mins left before the went out of the world cup they didn't seem able/willing to try something else and France had looked able to cope all night.
Looking forward to/am nervous about tonight ;D I believe that England are capable of beating Croatia but Croatia are just as capable of knocking us out. I think that as long as England go out there and try exactly as they have been doing I'll be happy regardless. Of course I want to be here tomorrow talking about us being in final :)
-
Possibly a once in a lifetime event Anna. Now theres a sobering thought!!
-
Well the better team won on the night. No shame in that. Just wait for the idiots to start smashing stuff now :'( ::)
-
They're coming home
They're coming home
They're coming.....
:D
-
Unlucky England, been honest I can relax and enjoy the final .Croatia were there for the taking tho
-
I'm feeling rather sad. As I've said before, I'm no fan of football but the way this contest put a bit of excitement into the hearts of millions really made me feel a bit better about the shitstorm that the UK is nowadays... to have England in a World Cup final would have been something of a happy thing. No more. :'(
-
They're coming home
They're coming home
They're coming.....
:D
.
Not yet. They still have been afforded the "opportunity" to play in the third place game.
That's Saturday morning.
-
Bad loss. There were two killer scoring opportunities blown by England. Every sports fan just knew when those were missed, England was as good as dead.
At least you didn't lose in that silly penalty kicks manner. But Croatia? You lost to Croatia? My last Halloween Party had more people at it than that country has. And, oh, those Croatians were a nasty, unsporting bunch. Going to be easy to root for France on Sunday.
-
;)
Dark Horses for me are Croatia ;)
Feel sorry for Englands youngsters but their time will come.Surprised that subs were not used earlier.Players were tired. When Ratchford came on he was the only player attempting to take players on.IMHO Loftus -Cheek who had a good game against Belgium and was direct might have made a difference.I think the Croats were happy when Sterling was taken off. They were scared of him in the first half.(A bit like Roma with Mo Salah in the Champions league semi final)Still for a team who weren't given much of a chance at the start, they did well.Pickford,Maguire and Trippier were the pick of the bunch
-
Strangely a country with 325 million couldn't qualify
-
First thing first congratulations to Croatia for reaching the final. England lost to a team they should have and could have beaten, agree totally with Pol Croatia were there for the taking.A couple of costly misses as well,it then seemed to all unravel.I also agree with what Roy Keane said that England started off o.k.then reverted back to the old England.I have not had the news on so don't know, but i hope there was no trouble after the game .
-
O.k now thats all over who do you want to win the World Cup ? ?
For me as my family on my mothers side were all of Normandy origin it has to be France
ALLEZ LES BLEUS.................
-
Well after the amount that Croatia got away with last night, France. But I also want someone else to win, so Croatia lol However I suspect Croatia may win it. Two decent teams.
-
Think France deserve it , overall they have the better team and deserve a break after the euro's
-
Well, I'm from Croatia, so there's no question whom will I support in the finals. I love football, though I stopped following club football for the last few years. I always loved and respected English football, so yesterday's win felt special, especially when I read the English press, predicting an easy victory for England and some disrespect for Croatian team. But I know a certain amount of arrogance and ego must be always present for the team to achieve any result, so there's no hard feelings there. The English team fought well and their fans should be proud, but I also think the better team won!
-
Strangely a country with 325 million couldn't qualify
Uhh, Italy only has 61 million people.
Get your facts straight before posting.

My friend take no notice of our media. Every rational England fan thought we'd have a chance but I dont think anyone underestimated you.
-
That was a great game though. Strange in the way that I was both sad for England to lose and happy for Croatia to win. Great to see England playing good football again after so many years. Hopefully they can keep that momentum.
It would be fantastic if Croatia won.
-
Sad - but today the better team was ....
Tomorrow - I was a fan of Zinedine Zedane - not shure now I want to follow the game live or only read the result later

Did'nt watch game today, just chatting to my friend (who did)said England poor first half slightly better in the second.I did'nt watch it because i think it is a pointless fixture (imho).Somebody on the news the other day said the only people who think this game is worthwhile is FIFA ,i tend to agree with that statement. Lets hope for a good final............

We were very poor first half. Second half was brighter but second goal killed it. We arent quite good enough against the better teams unfortunately but its made people happy for a few weeks and thats a plus. Harry Kane I thought was anonymous again.
-

Agree.
Game for thid place? Man, that's ridiculous. I turned it on and you could almost see the players would rather be somewhere else.
But, as you pointed out, FIFA digs it. It's a money-maker for them.
-
Only watched second half, despite two shocking first half decisions in their favour i still think France were the better team, and deserved to win...........
-
An excellent game spoiled by a shit ref , tho I agree that France were the better team
-
Enjoyed that game - complete with 2 excellent goals, a very funny goalie error and pitch invaders too ;D Some rather nasty french "defending" and dubious referring decisions but a much better final than usual.
As an aside winning the third place playoff does mean bigger prize money and better ranking which it turn means better seeding in future tournaments but it must be crap to have to play in one.
-

I disagree. Croatia dominated the first half and only conceded two goals due to a free kick and a penalty. France couldn't hold on to the ball for more than 10 seconds and never got a decent shot at the Coratian goal. France did shoot two great goals in the second half and came out stronger but I don't think it was a deserved win.
Congratulations to them anyway!
-
Croatia were a very good team I thought and certainly took the game to France. The difference was that France took their opportunities when they got them, for all of Croatias posession. Its been one of the best World Cup's Ive watched in ages.
-
I have to agree it was def.one of the best World Cups i have seen..................and i've seen a few.

The pitch invaders were the Russian punk group Pussy Riot who released a statement regarding the release of political prisoners amongst things. No doubt they'll be getting another harsh prison sentence for their actions.

I take my hat off to them. Definetely takes a lot of courage, knowing that the sentence will be harsh and most of the public against you.

Wonder if the band might do a song for/about them ?..........

The four Pussy Riot members who rushed the field during the 2018 World Cup final in Moscow earlier this month have been arrested again today, July 30—the same day they were set to be released from prison. According to a statement from Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova, they were charged with “the organization and holding of public events without prior written notice,” which results in up to 10 days of arrest. See posts made on Pussy Riot's Twitter account below.
On July 15, Veronika “Nika” Nikulshina, Olga Kuracheva, Olga Pakhtusova, and Petya Verzilov ran onto the pitch during the World Cup Final game while dressed in old-fashioned police uniforms—a statement against Russia’s political and prison systems. They were then taken to the local police station and sentenced to “15 days of administrative arrest” and were prohibited from attending sports events for three years.
Immediately following the field rush, Pussy Riot shared a list of demands to the Russian government. It included “allow for political competition in the country,” ending “illegal arrests at protests,” and freeing political prisoners.

Thanks for the update. Fifteen days eemed quite lenient by Russian standards so this isn't a huge surprise. Respect to them for standing up for their beliefs.

Well here we go again,The Mighty Cobblers lose their first match of the season............ ::)
-
A good start for killie with a 2-0 win
-
Semper Te Fallant :(
-
A good start for killie with a 2-0 win
second goal by Ndjoli is absolutely a perfect shot! Congrats Pol.
-
Yes he is looking like a good loan deal , think he could hit 20+ if he stay all season
-
Come on Bunny...............Boing Boing Baggies, early days.....
-
Lol. Well done you for getting it! I guess last season puts the expectancy on it.
-
Frank Lampard got off to a good start with an away win even if we nicked it in the last gasps of the game. A long season ahead but should be interesting
-
A good start indeed Anna, and as you say a long season ahead.....................until you reach The Play Offs (misery again).... :'(
-
So the football season is 6 games in ( it is here ) so how is your team doing . A good start for killie with 10 points so far 3 wins 1 draw 2 defeats, with the 2 defeats having dodgy ref decisions . Today's win over Celtic means we are 4 undefeated against them .
-
Great result for you Pol,................and the answer to your question, not sure which icons to use for Northampton Town ? (aka The Cobblers) a perfect description if ever there was one.. :( :( :'( :'( ::) that should just about sum it up.......................
-
Well my non league team are pants at the moment. However the Baggies are doing ok. I genuinely dont miss the Premier League. For years people have derided Scotland for having two teams. Apparently the premier league only has four teams and no-one else is worth bothering with.
-
Totally agree with you Bunny..........REAL Football ,no matter how frustrating is the only way to go.........
-
Even after losing on Saturday to Birmingham Leeds are looking a descent team this season. Their best buy has been up to now the manager Marcelo Bielsa after years of trying the cheap option and just hoping. There's still along way to go but so far so good.
-
I love Scottish and English premier league both. The pitches are almost excellent at most stadiums and it gives a joy to watch.Talking about the pitch, our mighty black eagles Besiktas has lost many points since the super league started, because of the grass conditions. Our corrupted new managament hired the stadium for a Shakira gig and after that event our pitch became like a field and about to cause injuries. In last 5 years we made a team like a machine but now it's sad to see we dont play like we used to in recent years.Hopes are still high though.
I watched this documentary last night about the 'Old Firm' by the way and quiet liked it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cggTbCcbcNA
-
So the Scottish premiership is about to go into the winter break with 21 games n 17 league games to go .
Amazingly Kilmarnock are 3rd just 1 point behind both celtic and rangers.
Been an excellent 2018 for Kilmarnock especially considering where we were before Stevie Clarke came in , bottom of the league with no wins after 11 games. Very much doubt we can do a Leicester city, I'll be happy with a top 4 finish, tho a good cup run would be nice.
In MotoGp Marc Marquez won his 5 premier class championship and his 7th title overall. Next season looking interesting especially with Jorge Lorenzo becoming his team mate at repsol honda.
So how has your sporting been.
-
Since the arrival of our new manager there has been a vast improvement with The Mighty Cobblers...........we have gone from whipping boys to draw specialists...still, a mid table finish will do for me..Then the big push for promotion next year ::).......
-
Even after our home defeat to Hull City yesterday my team Leeds United are still top of the Championship after a run of 7 victories. Our season is usually over by this time of the year so to be where we are now is an amazing feeling although there is a long way to. As supporters of any club in The Championship will know, it is a hard league to get out of as any team is capable of beating any other regardless of where they are situated in the league. Leeds fans will give a big shout to the fact that the club has invested in a descent manager for a change in the name Marcelo Bielsa who has worked wonders up to now and long may it continue.
-
Strange shenanigans up at Derby with this spying business from a Leeds employee :-* I mean we doing pretty well for Lampards first season in management but hardly good enough to warrant a spy :o Seems a bit overkill to me: it's football not a James Bond story ;D
-
A gutted Huddersfield Town supporter.
David Wagner did great things for us and gave us more joy than we have had for about 50 years and in the end has gone with dignity and with genuine sadness from the chairman. Rare in this day and age.
-
Very little loyalty in football
-
Seems like it was a mutual decision (if the reports are true ) ?.....But totally agree ,very little loyalty any more, too much money involved..
-

The matter is being looked into by the relevant authorities as Derby have made an official complaint. As funny as the incident is, it's being made even funnier by some of the opinions of what punishment Leeds should receive which are mainly coming from Sky pundits. Probably the best one so far is from Stuart Pearce https://thisisfutbol.com/2019/01/blogs/stuart-pearce-i-would-reverse-derby-scoreline/ I always thought "Psycho" was quite an intelligent bloke especially after seeing him an attendance at an NMA gig in Manchester a few years ago, but after giving his opinion on what punishment Leeds should receive, I've changed my mind.
-
Really enjoyed the Derby-Southampton game last night. Derby played really well and fully deserved the win. Shame there were so many empty seats.
-
I was looking for an umbro wristband on web and I accidentally had to visit the Derby County F.C page. They have really class logo and fashion wear.Dont know bout their position in league but really impressed by their store as I have black and white passion in football. If I were a DC fan I'D probably spend a lot on their merchandise.
-
Derby once a really great team, now in second division of English Football.Always do well and nearly gain promotion back to the big time, but seem to fall at last hurdle.Going well again this season so maybe this time they will make it............
-
Can't believe Napoli so bad against Arsenal tonight...............need a miracle next week.
-
So into the play offs then :) Not sure we've got what it takes for the final push but then again that might not be a bad thing. I suspect the match with Leeds might be a bit niggly given the spygate business earlier this year. Whatever happens I think it was a pretty good season for a young team and a young new manager and bodes well for a concerted push next year - Derby to be championship winners next May ;D
-
Crewe Alex finished at number 12 in Football League 2! :D
Apparently, this is the Crewe equivalent of Michael Caine and Sly Stallone defeating Nazi FC in Paris. Go, The Railwaymen!
:D
-
Agree Anna,it was a good season for The Rams.................good luck in playoffs, i think you will beat Leeds, but after that not sure.
-
2 games still to go in Scotland with killie already reaching a record points haul for the premier era . Stevie Clarke named pfa manager of the year.
-
Just listened to the Liverpool v Barca game on the wireless...........wow what a game, incredible result.
-
Wow what another great result...........looks like Ajax went down to The Bluebird or Barneys Coffee Shop at half time.... 8) 8) ;D ;D ...............
-
Great couple of nights for English football, all we need now is Chelsea and Arsenal to win their semi-finals tonight.
-
I think that is highly possible......we shall see..
-
Im just watching a prog called When English Teams Ruled Europe. Virtually every player in the Forest, Villa and Liverpool teams were born in the British isles. I have no issue with any team now being successful in Europe, but they're English based with English fans. Certainly in no way are they "English" teams.......however on the flip side, since the 80's, when England were awful, our players/National Team is better. Not quite sure how English/British teams were more successful in that decade, than the last 40 years. Bit of a conundrum.
-
Advantage Villa..........Gayle sending off could be costly,he will miss second leg......a big, big, loss for Baggies..
-

Yeah. Not sure we're ready for the PL yet anyway. I wont be too distraught if we dont go up tbh
-
Leeds win at Derby last night restored a bit of faith in me especially after recent results where we seem to struggle against the lower placed teams in the Championship. Going into the game with suspensions and injuries I doubted we'd get a result even though we did the double over Derby this season but I was pleasantly surprised at how we played and of course winning was the main thing. No doubt Derby fans were upset regarding the penalty issue but thankfully we were saved by the linesman and quite rightly, not that I'm biased of course ;). Hopefully we can get a result on Wednesday and then in the biggie ,the play off final, then we'll be back where we belong in The Premiership, or so I am told.
-
Hopefully we can get a result on Wednesday
Oops :P ;D :-* Sorry old bean, seems we had other ideas :) By all accounts it was a good game and for us a really good result. Not that it will matter much in the long run because Villa have beaten us 7 - 0 on aggregate this season so I'm not expecting much from the Wembley game Still as someone once said "it's a funny old game"
-
Thought the Leeds are falling apart again chant was funny, a very enjoyable game tho
-
I was right about Derby beating Leeds................but Villa not so sure...we shall see...
-
Hopefully we can get a result on Wednesday
Oops :P ;D :-* Still as someone once said "it's a funny old game"
Believe u me, I didn't find it funny on Wednesday at all, was proper f****d off. I'm not a religious in the slightest but I thought to myself, some f***** up there hates us.
-
Well i was right ,thought Villa would be too good for Derby. It was a good game listened to it on the wireless,Villa seemed stronger and Derby left the fight back too late. All this speculation about Lampard and Chelsea i find a bit strange,he has yet to really prove himself a really good manager(imho)..time will tell.
-

I dislike the play offs immensely. Its not a fair way to organise promotion. It becomes a lottery and the third best team over the course of a season isnt promoted by virtue..
-
I also dislike the playoffs,i agree if 3 teams are to be promoted it should be the top 3.......in the immortal words of ABBA Money,Money,Money.................... >:(
-
Well killie got there highest finish in over 50 years n swiftly lost there manager to the Scottish national team. So bittersweet
-

Thats football. We lost Woy Hodgson to England after having a genuinely exciting team at West Brom. It went pear shaped after that.
-
Slightly off topic. Ive seen some fantastic goal keeping in this Womens world cup but a complete lack of blood and thunder slide tackles. Is it outlawed? It certainly makes for a more freeflowing game.
-
I think with the ''studs showing'' rule in force, the slide tackle is almost obsolete in ALL football.........glad as a right footed left back in my playing days this rule was not in existence............(1970's)........because boy could i slide / lunge all 6'1'' of me........ ;D... ;D...
-
Ho hum...another game, another win.
We win. We always win. Is there no one on this planet to challenge us?

Always nice to the Americans doing well in a World championship team sport, that involves more than two nations imho.
-
I agree. It is nice to see USA taking part in an international team sport with success. Hope it inspires them to not be so inward thinking with team sports. I have been really enjoying this World Cup. The games have been fast flowing and not stopped every two mins for fowls and play acting. I can see woman's football continuing to grow in popularity, maybe eventually on a par with the men's game. All for the good in my eyes.

.
The women's game is a far more entertaining game than the mens. Don't want to sound sexist, but that's because the women just aren't that good. The men's game could be a slog because they can really control and pass the ball around endlessly. The women are prone to mistakes, they'll cough up the ball and that creates breaks and more excitement and more scoring opportunities. I look forward to the women's World Cup a lot more than the mens.
-
Leicester, when I went home and away. I believe me cancelling my season ticket was the kick in the arse the club needed to win the Prem - and I’m taking full responsibility for the victory.
But I have a strong affection for all the clubs where I’ve lived, so I always look out for the results of the Cobblers, Depo Cali, Southend, Depo Caracas, and Sunderland.
We lived right near to the old County Ground in Northampton, I was Clarence the Dragon for a time at Sixfields - I really need to add that to my CV.
-
Wow another Cobblers fan, well more than a fan The Mascot.I was born in Northampton but left in 1970 as my mother wished to return home to Jersey.I lived in Freehold St.near The Racecourse and Kingsthorpe Hollow.I have travelled about a bit in my time, but rarely have i met people from the town.....great post Mawsley...

It’s funny the emotional ties you have to a place. No matter where we moved, we always returned to Northants in the end. Now that it’s nigh-on impossible to get tickets for Leicester (where were they away at Hartlepool in the rain on a Tuesday night in the third tier?), I spend far more time popping along to the Cobblers.
Phil Chard’s Clo and White army!
-
I have been back a couple of times for a day visit when i've been in Brum for a gig.The last time i was there was to see NMA at Roadmenders on 14 October year ? ? i know the date is right as i hassled a miserable steward for the poster outside and have it framed and hanging in my flat...........i have never visited Sixfields,County Ground Hotel End for me....... :)...

Ho hum...another game, another win. Kicked the Holy Hell out of home team France.
We win. We always win. Is there no one on this planet to challenge us?

Next we take on England. The English think they invented the game. Oh, man, I hope we humiliate the English like we did in 1776.
-
And so begins another football season to enthral or disappoint us as is always the case. No doubt the usual teams will finish in the usual places in the Premiership due to the wealth of talent at their disposal and of course just their wealth. The Championship seems to be more of a guessing game as last season proved with Norwich City and Sheffield United taking up 2 of the 3 promotion slots and who certainly weren't favourites before the season began. Then of course the 1st and 2nd Divisions with their mixture of former Premiership occupants, Ipswich and Bolton being the latest to join and teams newly promoted from the none league divisions like Salford. Also making it's debut in the Premiership is VAR which so far has had mixed reviews as no more is the Monday morning at work discussion or arguments as to whether it was offside/a penalty/handball/a sending off or any other controversial decision.
-
Yeah var been a bit hit and miss. Would hate to think you have scored only for it to be chopped off a minute later . Disappointing start for killie, losing the first 2 league games but thru to the last 8 of the league cup. .
-
Can I just say that Crewe Alexandra, my hometown team, are at the top of Division 2?
I don't really care much (and I'm sure it won't last long), but it's probably the only time I'll ever get to say it... :D
-
Beware The Mighty Cobblers MR..............we knocked Swindon off top spot on Tuesday.... ;D....
-
My Non-League team are actually playing good football after years of dross. New manager, whole new team. Things are looking up. C'mon you Yeltz
-
Kosova you've just got to love them.........just watched one of the most entertaining games that i can remember, you have to admire their attitude to the way they approached the game. They have some very good players too, really hope they make the finals (along with England) of course......wonderful stuff..
-
When team USA aren't playing, I root for Hibbs:

My non league team will be on BBC sport this saturday. FA cup 3rd Qualifying round. Its a first in a 146 year history.....precluding the fact TV didnt exist for a chunk of that ;D

Halesowen Town perchance ? ?....
-
Halesowen Town perchance ? ?....
Thats the one!!
-
Hi Bunny, only managed to catch last half hour of game a combination of late shopping trip ( my mate/driver wanted to watch rugby),plus forgetting it was on ::)....what a rock n roll life i lead ;D....seems like the stronger team won (i may be wrong ? )...did you go to the game ?..
-
No mate. Watched it on telly cos of going to work. First half we matched them and there was nothing between the two. Second half we pushed up which gave them more space. Without a doubt theyre the better team (2 leagues above), but we gave them a good game. Cant complain.
-
Cheers, thanks for that, they certainly did well against a higher placed team, all about the season now. This is another team i will watch out for their results, along with others. My mates and myself always follow our various teams performances.......these include Northampton Town and Napoli (my teams)..plus Bolton,Aldershot,Dagenham,Salford,Newcastle....and now Halesowen.. :)...
-
Ok not football. Congratulations to Marc Marquez on his 8th championship 6th at top level. #8ball. He hasn't finished outside the top 2 in every race he finished ( didn't finish 1 race whilst leading ) . 1 more to equal valentino rossi
-
Excellent article about Union Berlin at BBC Football on line.
-
I believe it's going to be an excellent game today Liverpool vs Man.City.Expecting Reds to win.
-
I am listening to the game on the wireless i think it will be a really tight game, agree i think Liverpool will edge it.On a more important game played today great to see the mighty Cobblers avoided a potential banana skin today in the FA Cup by beating Chippenham Town.. ;D.........Liverpool have just scored....
-
Just noticed pics on the BBC. No poppies on Celtic shirts that I can see. Anyone know any better??
-
Have just read on another site they don't put a poppy on their shirts as a protest against the British Army and because of their Irish roots.....don't know how true this is,could be a load of rubbish ?
-
Listening to 606 on Radio 5 Live.....a very lively debate about Liverpool / City game....great to hear so many unbiased comments.... ;D...
-
Have just read on another site they don't put a poppy on their shirts as a protest against the British Army and because of their Irish roots.....don't know how true this is,could be a load of rubbish ?
I dunno. Thats why I asked. It would be a bit short sighted if so given Scotlands war dead.
-
I think it's about the fact that they commemorate all service personnel and not just the ones killed in the two World Wars,so it's about The Troubles and Irish Republican Army .....that's how i understand it,i may be wrong.
-

I've been up in Scotland and was asked to contribute to "The Scottish Poppy". I didn't as I've already got a poppy band I put in money for them, but I did inform them I thought it was disgraceful they are collecting for a "Scottish Poppy" considering those poor people went into battle together whatever nation they came from. Bullets do not know any colour, religion or country!

It's hard to imagine that Scotland is only just up the road from us down here in England that this sort of behaviour carries on in the 21st century. I know footie fans can be over zealous in their support for their team but that's usually to do with the football itself, but when basically it's down to a difference in religion, well it's hard to grasp. I suppose with not living in that part of the country I'll never understand and being an atheist again, I understand even less.

Well I agree with that. England (and just to say I'm only half English, the other half is Welsh) is accused of nationalism all the time, just go to Scotland. As I said I was there last week for a wedding and spent a few days there. Lovely country but everything has to say "Scottish" in front of it, Scottish Mirror, Scottish Gas as if it has to be stamped with the nations id. That is nationalistic. Sorry Pol btw, not trying to upset you, but it is true!
...oh and to keep the thread on topic. I'm a Man City supporter, always have been, used to be a season ticket holder, not been a good week for us has it! Still after years of failure and now we are having success then I'm not going to be too down about it.
-
Pochettino sacked,Mourinho in.....................it will all end in tears,Mr.Levy is not one to splash the cash and i feel Mr.Mourinho will not accept that for very long.(i may be wrong)....
-
Just watched highlights of The Mighty Cobblers hammer Burton a team a league higher than us in F.A. Cup...we won by four goals to two,a magnificent result/performance as we were the away team....let's hope we get one of the big boys in the next round to add a few bob in our bank A/C...... :)....
-
Maidenhead United 1-3 Halesowen Town. We just beat a team three divisions above us in the FA Trophy, in what must be one of the biggest results in this clubs history bar our Wembley appearances in the 80's....Next up Halifax in the 3rd round. Unreal.
-
Yes a great result and good luck for the next round.....and let's all hope and pray (not Anna obv.) that The Mighty Cobblers get a result against Derby in F.A.Cup 4th.Round on Friday, and then get a BIG Team ;D.in the next round......
-
The Mighty Cobblers......
I'm sorry, who exactly are these shoemakers that you speak of ? ;D ;D ;D :-*
-
Ha Ha, the game is not on regular T.V.,i would imagine SKY may show it....however it is on the wireless on BBC Radio 5 Live and therefore poss.on BBC World Service (a lot of times the matches are)...i shall def. be tuning in hoping for a shock result......may the best team on the night win......come on Cobblers..
-
it's on bt sport, though if you are that way inclined their are sites that will be showing it
-
Thanks, but it will be the wireless and a few glasses of wine for me.......
-
What a great performance from the fourth division side, yes we were lucky to not have a man sent off which would have killed us off.....but you ride/take your luck,i do not think we will win the replay but hope for a massive crowd at Pride Park to put a good few pounds in to our purse.......once again come on The Mighty Cobblers......
-
Hmm, yes, well ...... a rather rubbish performance it seems - 8 changes from our last outing so I guess not really a top priority rather disappointingly - as you say Ghosttrain at least you'll get a nice payday at the replay and I wouldn't discount a win for you either.
-
We shall see..........fingers crossed.
-
Bye Bye the not so mighty cobblers :D :-* Mind you we'll see ya in the losers lounge after the next round: Man Utd !!!
-
According to our manager we showed you too much respect, which as a football fan for 50 plus years means we were'nt as good as you... ;D. ;D....i am pleased at least the scoreline was'nt bad....i had visions of you coming out to make a point after the last game and putting 5 or 6 past us.....at least that did'nt happen...i wish your team luck against United, and if they are as unpredictable as usual and you put out a good team i think you can def.beat them......for us now it is to remain in the play off places 'til the end of the season and win promotion that way........and after your sneaky jibe about us, NOT bottle it like you do every year.. ;D ::).
come on The Mighty Cobblers....
-
After a severe sticky spell for the famous Ayrshire killie, we have managed to win the last 2 games scoring 3 goals in both including a win in Edinburgh against hearts . Life is good at the theatre of pies .
-
Theatre of Pies... ;D.. ;D..Love it..
-
The kilmarnock pies made by local bakers Brownings have won many awards and are regarded as the best pies in football
-
Just the matter of a short drive up to Halifax today for the Yeltz. I'll leave at half 10 and should be back by 8ish tonight ???
-
And so on to the quarter finals we go. Phenomenal result.
-
Just checked out yesterdays results....great win indeed..
-
Always brilliant to beat huns and watch stevie g slip again as their season ends again at the theatre of pies.. Onwards n upwards for the mighty killie as we push for a top 6 finish .it made a excellent birthday present.
-
So Barnet beaten on their own ground and onto the semi finals. Fantastic achievement for a club that was in freefall at the end of last season. Potentially Halesowen v Notts County. Who'd have thought!!
-
You are certainly having a good run........good luck for the next round..
-
Thoughts on what should happen, the season won't finish and there is no way we can play games into july with contracts and loan players going back.
End it now and call the standings as is , yeah winners n losers but that's the game
-
I agree totally call it now as it stands for all the reasons you have quoted......my mate says cancel this season and make all results null and void and start again as if this season never started, however,he would say that as he is a Bolton fan who started the season with (i think) a 12 point deduction..... ::)..

65 years ago today (or yesterday now ) Kilmarnock became Scottish champions the last non city do achieve this. If time machines become reality I would love to go back and watch. Been lucky enough to see them lift 2 cups.
-
Anyone else here watched (or tried to watch) a game on TV in an empty stadium with or without canned crowd noise ? Bizarre..I did however find it fine listening to games on the wireless..
-
Promotion to League One for The Mighty Cobblers...Yahoo.
-
Scottish football is in a right fn mess , leagues awarded, relegation given, pyramid teams denied chance of promotion. Courts cases , infighting., worrying times ahead.
-
And after a 16 year wait full of heartbreak and disappointment my team Leeds United have finally got a deserved promotion to the Premiership, hooray. After the balls up of last years play off nightmare against Derby County they managed to win promotion and then be crowned as Championship Champions with 2 games to spare, hooray. Of course staying up is the first challenge and investment is a must as Norwich City have found out the hard way with their immediate return to the Championship. So here's to next season and the return of fans to the stadiums and of course the same goes to gig goers and concerts.

Try following West Brom mate ;D ;)

Well done to Leeds I'm sure they will be a decent addition to the premiership.
-
Boing Boing Baggies.............well done.
-
Relegation to League Two for The Not So Mighty Cobblers..........Boohoo.... :'(....
-
I mean. Albion are pretty much relegated. Beat the Dog heads once. Lost to Aston Vile once.
But still Im more impacted by Halesowen Town not playing for the best part of a year. I love football but I fell out of love with professional football above Championship level ;D
-
I agree apart from a few clubs WBA included the Premier league has jut become a money making scheme....pricing most of the genuine fans from the game............and don't get me started on this so called ESL......the clubs involved in that should be punished.....points deducted ? imposing fines won't make any difference with all the money they have......a disgrace >:(...
-
Yeah but two of them are in a European Final and everyones really happy. So all is forgiven ;D
-
Anyone else watching/enjoying Euro 2020/2021 ?........apart from the very distressing incident in the Denmark v Finland game.....I have enjoyed the games i have seen so far, an absolute cracker last night Holland v Ukraine.....hopefully we are in for a good tournament....
-
I am watching, but have not been able to catch every match. I did watch most of the 1st half of the Denmark game, then had to go and get my 2nd jab. Was very surprised when I got back to turn on the telly to see Charlie Dimmock doing some gardening, so went to the news channel to find out why.
-
Ha Ha I am of an age when watching Charlie Dimmock doing some gardening was a very enjoyable watch indeed..........even if you did'nt have a garden... ;D.....
-
Well done Wales..........great result,brilliant performance....
-

-
Ceska Republika...........what a great perfomance/result...........

...and you wonder why people voted to leave the EU......

...or you wonder why people suddenly support Italy... *makes mental note: football no no, people sensitive, do not comment*

I hope it is a great game...........and may the best team win..

Ah but that was not a football comment, it was a "people hate England" comment. And here is the shock for you, I'm Welsh though I've lived in England most of my life.
The sheer hatred for England I have noticed on the internet almost borders on psychosis. I don't know about you, but I think it is bad.

I'm with you! Both teams got there on merit, their record show it. Whatever happens happens!

People don't hate England. The crowd behaved poorly (to put it mildly) during the match against Denmark and this is just a reflection of that. Personally, I'm over the whole football thing.

Always when there’s sports involved (seemingly especially football), people make fun of other countries. As Johnz mentioned, people don’t hate England. Maybe England got more than their share thanks to the famous minority of less-than-attractively behaving fans… I just saw it also as a comment about Brexit. I don’t spend much time online so I wasn’t even aware of some wave of psychotic anti-English attitudes and truly apologise if I offended you. As an avid NMA fan, there’s a limit of how anti-English one can be anyway :)
But but but… What it comes to the outcome of the match, holy crap… Losing in penalties? That’s the worst way if you ask me… Worst way to lose or to win for that matter. I don’t have much enthusiasm for football, but what it comes to ice hockey… Finland lost against Canada in the ice hockey world championship final this year, on over time… I was fuming! I mean, after I got up from my depressed stupor, leaning my forehead on the table… Canada, (sorry Canadians here…) they did not even deserve to be in the final this year!!! I mean, they sucked so bad at the beginning of the games that it was historical – they were, first time ever, about to be dropped out before quarter finals!!! They got to quarter finals only because Germany won Latvia on over time and not on the actual game time!!! Well obviously they picked up rather well from there, that’s sports for you, but damn was I upset :)

This map reminds me of similar maps of England / Europe in 1940.

Hey, don't worry, we have been in training for decades how to cope with being knocked out in penalties ::)
