What books have influenced Justin and other band members?

Hi, my name’s Nick, new on here. Just wondered what literary influences have moulded various songs over the years. Anyone got any ideas?

Good to see someone new joining.

The obvious one is the Bible (part the waters), but I also read an interview around the time of Dog and Wolf where Wuthering Heights is mentioned.

I'd never read Wuthering Heights as a kid, but I had to read it recently and I found it amazing, it's like watching a punk band, there's not a single sympathetic character in it, yet it's utterly compelling."

Always loved Wuthering Heights, read it a couple of times. An excellent novel.

The JS solo song THE ESSEX was based on the book "in the heart of the sea" which was also made into a film.Also Ocean Rising was the story of Shackleton in the South Atlantic.Both these are based on true stories as opposed to novels.

The song 'A Far Better Thing' is in essence based on Dickens' 'A Tale of Two Cities'.

I guess other songs such as Great Expectations, 1984 and Brave New World make comparisons to the events described in the novels of the same name. I'm sure there are more.

Way back in the day the band in an interview extolled the virtues of a history book called World Turned Upside Down which basically chronicled the history of revolt in the UK.  An interesting read which I must revisit some day.
