Your 5 favorite UNBROKEN songs?
« on: January 31, 2024, 09:31:16 PM »
...and the one(s) you like the least?

I haven't listened to the album much but so far my favorites:

FIRST SUMMER AFTER:
an example of the powerful yet nuanced and catchy NMA, both melancholic and hopeful. I can see a road movie from my car windows when I listen to this song.

LEGEND:
I like the incessant rolling drums and the chorus is powerful with that epic side that we love inNMA's music.

COLD WIND:

A sad song, I like the acoustics, the catchy chorus and the strings that arrive during the song bring renewed interest to the structure of the track

IF I AM STILL ME:

As usual I like the tribal drums and the synth is effective, a subtly catchy piece.

I DID NOTHING WRONG:

I like the contrast between the acoustics and the angry passages, the bass also with its robotic mechanical side which fits well with the dehumanized technological universe that the song talks about.

For the songs I like the least at the moment, maybe "Reload" and "Coming or going", a too basic Rock side, a bit like B-side songs, less strong tracks from LOST SONGS.

Nice post Guillaume and excellent formatting with your explanations..so I'll do likewise..it's been less than a week since release but this is how it stands for me right now:

1 Language - Great moody goth track - classic thought provoking and emotive chorus lyrically and melodically.

2 Coming or going - Bass-line in verse reminiscent of "Eton rifles" by the Jam - complete earworm of a bridge and then explosive chorus - what's not to like?

3 Reload - Classic angry Nma from vengeance era..with quality gratuitous swearing! - I'd have cut that instrumental ending off though To keep it a snappy punk song - and put it first on the album for max effect.

4 Legend - Love the lyrics and catchy melody - the digital delay on the bass is to much though and it's mixed to loud so overpowers the vocals - otherwise this song would prob be my number 1.

5 If I am still me - A catchy and strangely self-deprecating song from the more mellow side - which is a fine contrast - I think the samey tribal drums that have been overused since "Red earth" don't work for me though - there's a live acoustic version on German radio which is alot better.

* I'm not going to name a least favourite as I genuinely don't have one right now - although this album may lack an absolute banger (as the djs say!) It also doesn't have a single bad song imo.

My five in no part.order....''First Summer After''

                                      '' Cold Wind''

                                      '' Language''

                                      ''If I Am Still Me''

                                      ''Idumea''
Ask me tomorrow and i may swap ''Cold Wind'' with ''Deserters''....
That was very hard as i think it's a really strong album.

1. Cold wind
2. First Summer After
3. Reload
4. Do You really want to go there

... and now the choice gets quite challenging, i'll pick "If i am still me" because i think it might be a real classic especially when being played live & acoustic.

Really looking forward to the live shows. Good stuff with somehow very high potential to be  even better when being played live. Hope the tour will see a lot of songs from unbroken ... i am into NMA for > 35 years, they basically provided the "soundtrack for my life" and after this long time nailed with Unbroken again some extraordinary tunes in my head ... with all the pictures and memories emerging ... what a journey!

So, since reading here, as far as something's happening, for quite some time now, i decided to join. Don't let the forum die, it's a way to awesome place for that!

And now ontopic, with quite some different selection, which is kind of a good thing i think, since it shows the diversity of the album:

1. Do you really want to go there?
2. Idumea
3. First summer after
4. i did nothing wrong
5. coming or going

Interestingsly, it's all the singles in there...

All the best from Germany,
Johannes

Without overthinking, these

Idumea
If I am Still Me
First Summer After
Coming or Going
Cold Wind

One interesting thing was that this was the first NMA album that I actually read the lyrics before I listened to the album. Now I wish I would've written some notes then..  :)
