Is anyone else surprised that this Forum is still going?
« on: November 26, 2025, 08:33:17 PM »

Let's be honest, it's a ghost town these days.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that it's still going, just in case some of the old crew feel like coming back and chipping in every once in a while.  But another bands Forum, that I was very active on, got scrapped a few weeks back despite having a heck of a lot more traffic than this one does, because the maintenance of it wasn't worth the effort from the bands inner circle.  I assume this place needs much the same effort.  And many other bands scrapped their official Forums years ago, just directing the fans to the usual social media sites (which, personally, I think are dreadful and not conductive to decent and interesting communication between the true fans).

I've been told by a friend who was never active here but is a huge NMA fan that non-members can't see this Forum anymore or join. Is that an indication that this Forum is coming to an end?  It'd be a shame if so but it's understandable.  I often look back on old threads or PMs and remember the friendships, jokes and banter and, occasionally, the fall-outs... all the good stuff that made this Forum so special.  But all good things come to an end.   :-\

Viv (or anyone in the bands inner circle), if you're out there, any clarification, whether it be good or bad?
... but at what point does it stop being CPR and start being like trying to reanimate a corpse?

It's a quiet board - nothing wrong with that.

I do not use any social media platforms so this board is important to me.

Ahh close it down; it's a dead stick, obsolete, a thing of the past. I remember checking it every couple of hours 13 years ago; now you could check it every couple of months and have less to look through. Things change; people move on, die, do other things. Such is life.
The longer this century goes on, the more I feel I belong in the last one.

For years I ran a Facebook page dedicated to NMA, and as I recall, there were about 2,000 members. They often seemed nice people, but one of the major drawbacks of social media sites is that topics and discussions don't last; they disappear into oblivion.

I do not use any social media platforms so this board is important to me.

On the official NMA forum, you can find old threads, update them, and search for information—it's very convenient. While there aren't many of us on the forum, anyone interested in the band can always visit and find interesting things to read about NMA by browsing the topics. It's almost like having a book about the band, with all this information available here.

I still check in from time to time.
Never did join Facebook.
Still love listening to NMA and get out to see them when I can. 👍

Gotta agree.

There a rock pub / club in my old hometown, a two level venue where you could just go for a drink or see a band and it was the finest place I ever went to to drink, dance, laugh and everything else you could expect from a place like that.  Built in a lovely old chapel and it became so popular that the BBC did a documentary about it.  Countless great memories, heck, I practically lived in it for a few years!  It closed in 2010, it was supposed to be turned into flats but the planning permission was denied and now it's a rotting old structure that could fall down at any minute.

That's how I feel about this place nowadays, sad though it is to say it.  Someone posted something shortly after Covid asking where the old crowd were and it got some responses from those folks.  But those same folks didn't bother much after that.  I've tried to pump some life back into it (as have you, Shush) but it's a bit of a slog...

I'll be here as long as the rest of you are.  But, as Shush said, it's a thing of the past nowadays.   :'(

The band are not Duran Duran. They may not get the press we feel they deserve but they do release quality music more often.

A quiet forum is not a dead forum, I'll take it.

In fact, I can remember a time when there was no forum. I'd rather not go backwards.
