I was at Roundhouse too - agree with the fan similarity to NMA, although the fanbase is a fair bit larger. Saw a few NMA t-shirts and a 30th anniversary hoody.

Liked the two projection screen backdrops.

No projectors in Manchester, just standard light show, still a brilliant set. Love Like Blood was fantastic, Atseroid aswell........ The whole set really. Great night out......

I was at the Roundhouse too - fairly good gig but not as good as the last time I'd seen them (Hammersmith, 2 years ago) in my opinion. This was probably due to a) the sound bit rather shite (at least where I was standing) and b) the fact that they played quite a few new songs, which nobody really knew yet cos the album's not out.

Had a good time though, especially the second half of the set when the older songs came in, looking forward to the new album.

Totally agree
The sound at the Roundhouse is appalling - Seen the Dropkicks Murphys and The Damned there over the past couple of months and everytime the sound is so bad you cannot hear a word of the lead vocal.  Thought it was a bit better for KJ, but not much.  Going to the Oxford gig next Saturday too so the new songs will get a second airing for me.

Manchester was superb.

Spent the night on the barrier between Jaz and Geordie, shielding my 15 year old daughter from the crush!
Enjoyed the mix of old and new in the set. Sound wasn't as bad as it can be at the academy.

Bruised but happy.  :)

Off to Newcastle Academy on Tuesday, not seen them in Toon since they played Newcastle University. Looking forward to hearing some of the new stuff, "festival sets" get a bit monotonous after a while. Was there an encore at Manchester, mate said there wasn`t one at Sheffield?

All sounds promising  :) For some reason I've stopped getting notifications for this thread - still got the spare Wolverhampton ticket if anyone wants it!

did 7 of the 11 uk tour dates and I thought Killing Joke were on top form, enjoyed every one and the 6 new songs off '2012' the new album sounded brilliant, 'the great cull' and 'sun goes down' were fantastic every time.

let's hope Jaz is wrong and the world doesn't end this year, so we can have more albums and gigs from them

Was at Oxford last night - really enjoyed it, much better sound than at the Roundhouse.  The Wait leading straight into Physsche was my highlight - looking forward to the new album.

Just had a first listen to the new album, put up on Spotify early! Erm.....not impressed really, apart from the really nice single In Cythera and a couple of tracks...it all sound a bit messy and a bit of a effort. Nothing really stands out and the nearly 9 minute Pole Shift that starts it is long, too long on time and too short on tune!

As they are my favourite band....I will of course give it more listens. But their last albums Killing Joke, Hosannas (less so but still good) and Absolute Dissent hit me straight off. This one...well erm....

Anyway, opinions?

So I finally conquered my disappointment at not catching them live and bought the album....

I'm with ldopas 100% on Pole Shift. Its too long and instantly forgettable. The lyrics are a bit bland and you almost think that Jaz is running out of potential causes for the apocalypse he has been predicting for so long? Definitely the wrong track for an opener.

As for the rest of it after a few listens I actually think its pretty good. Geordie's guitar work is as precise as ever though its the most conventional stuff he has written (in rock terms) and the least Killing Joke like. The studio work is not unlike Nighttime and Pandemonium though it does not plumb the over-production depths of Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. Its not an immediate classic that grabs you in the way that recent albums like Killing Joke (2) and Absolute Dissent did. But its a grower and worth the tenner it cost. I suppose like all their songs only seeing them performed live will be the litmus test. So much as I utterly oppose arena gigs I think I may have to blag a press pass for this abomination coming up at Wembley.

Finally is it just me or does this Afghan boxer I snapped in January display an uncanny likeness for Jaz in the early eighties?
