Justin's Acoustic
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:10:24 AM »
Hi all. Hope a merry xmas was had by each and every one. Watching the 30th anniversary dvd (again) last night and I love the sound of Justin's acoustic guitar. I want one! Anybody know exactly which one he tends to use most of the time? Thanks.

Just read elsewhere it's a Lowden 025 at 10 and a half grand? I won't be getting that at Argos. Ouch!

If you had kept reading you would have seen Justin's post debunking the 10 grand claptrap and explaining the reality. That post is here - http://board.newmodelarmy.org/index.php?topic=5851.msg98675#msg98675

Ah. Cheers fellas. A grand eh? Maybe one day. Lovely sounding guitar but I'll have to stick to my Yamaha F-310 til the lotto comes up.

I have been amazed by just how much my second hand (£60, and mint condition, off eBay) Indie HJ20 acoustic sounds like a Lowden 025 - when I play Sleepwalking, close my eyes ... and shut up my mind ... lol ; ~ D

 ;D ;D ;D

 ;) ;) ;)

They did survive the fire? I reallly do hope so, having bought a ticket for Gillingham I was already looking forward to another of those sublime JS/DW shows. And for JS - he and the Lowden are pretty synonymous now on the acoustic tours. Fingers crossed down here in Dorset

Good news from the news on site it appears the Lowden survived some other kit too so good news .. to some extent or another  :)    Clearly a resilient instrument too  ..yet another reason for saving up the pennies to get one ..

Oh and probably a great return for the guitar and the solo shows to play "consuming fire" on it maybe ? .. to prove it didn't consume it ..

ahem..Ok ..  I'll fetch my coat ..

You'd want it to be pretty sturdy even if you only paid a grand for it

There's really not much hope of getting a Lowden for that kind of money today. New I think they start about £2,500, even second hand you'd be looking at well over a grand and a half.

Yep, the grim reality of that has recently sunk in Ifran. Haven't seen anything for less than £2,300. New or used. If I can get a good price for my '86 Fender Precision bass - currently on ebay - then maybe I could look at a Takamine or summat. As nice as my Yamaha is I'd like something that sounds a helluva lot fuller.

A mate bought a really nice electro-acoustic last year. I'd never heard of the make, but it was a nice bit of kit and was around the 600 quid mark. I'll drop him a text tomora to find out what it was. He's a guitar teacher and neigh on 70 years old (I know alot of folks! lol), with a really keen ear. He knows his stuff basically mate.  8)

Ok Stoney. Cheers. I'm interested to know what it was. Heard a Lowden 035 on youtube today. Sounds unbelievable. Googled some prices for it and i'm looking at 4 grand plus! On the other hand the Martin DRS1 sounds a bit saucy too at around 700 quid.

I think it was one of these. I borrowed it to play with Ricky Wrawick early on in 2010 in York. My Tanglewood dreadnaught isn't pick up equiped and my 355 wasn't gonn cut it fer the job....... So in stepped my mate and the Taylor of his did a fine job too. ;D
