It Hard... to top ?
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:32:49 PM »
Well ,I have to say after the 30th Aniversary shows its all a bit sad ..
I enjoy every concert I have been to and its a few now but ..You cant top those nights !
The aniversary shows ..all your favorite songs ???? 2 nights !!! support and all .Berlin was my favorite  8).
I went watching on the last tour with my daughter and her boyfriend a new generation and they enjoyed the Manchester show .
I though it was not the best set ... but I have been spoiled .
Do we have to wait another 9 years to see this amazing weekend show again  :(

Sure, the 30th anniversary weekends were great and we were very spoiled but speaking personally I enjoyed the shows in October & December just as much. It's always great when less regularly played songs such as See You in Hell creep into the sets, and when we go to venues like the amazing one in Bridport. I'm quite happy to endure another 8 years of that before we embark on the 40th with our false teeth and zimmer frames!  ;)
The things that you thought were so cool were just a joke to everyone else

I'm with Jibberish, the last to tours have been absolutely brilliant! I think the 30th shows, along with this site and dare I say it, FACEBOOK have brought alot of us together much more than previously. I could be wrong, but that's my take anyway. Rock n bike was another really good weekend for me.
The shows were great aswell, unusual set lists with a few of the regular "crowd pleasers", to coin a phrase. But lots of Album Trax instead of "greatest hits" type sets works for me. Rumour And Rapture is a sure fire winner for me on that score. Amongst quite a few others....... 8)

I say - feel the passion and the energy of the new songs...Love the past, but always appreciate that we are very very lucky to not have to live in it!

I enjoyed the old songs and the 'hits' at the 30th gigs but i enjoyed the oct and dec sets last year just as  much and had a brilliant time at all of them. No other band has such a wide range of great tracks to draw on and across such longevity. Years back when T&C came out sone folks did not like the change of style - without which just think how many classics we would have missed out on.......   so if they want to try out different styles and bring different tracks into the sets then so be it.  They have not done too much wrong so far..... I for one trust they'll get it right  :)

I'm with Nicky on this one.
Each tour has its own personality. Each is special in its own way.
I thought the setlist for the December tour was very dark, quite bleak infact. That isn't a negative thing - I love those songs. But the choice, if you look at it in hindsight, was overwhelmingly dark. Hearing some lesser heard songs like on the October tour and December to some extent is great, as is hearing the regulars which are like old friends.
On a side note, I brought a friend to M'bro - never been to a gig before and no prior knowledge of New Model Army. We made her a cd of 'bankers' - listen to this, they'll defo play this- type tracks. All wrong (!) but she loved the gig anyway. That's an unbiased opinion of how bloody great that tour was, as I'm not sure I can trust my own judgement on this issue!

Well said that man! We are banking on the band being so delighted with the Electric Palace that they will be back in Bridport if not next year then the one after. It was just so good to have the band (twice) and Justin play in Dorset last year.

While for me the 30th shows were a total blast, they were special precisely cos they were double sets, double nights and I particularly enjoyed the shows I did at Northampton and Bridport last October. I was knackered for the Manc gig and made the mistake of bolting down three plate loads of buffet curry just up the road about 90 mins before NMA went on. But now, the Electric Brixton gig was something else and will live long in my memory.

See You in Hell has now joined my more regular NMA playlist and I was totally made up to see Rumour and Rapture live at last, as I hadn't done before.

I agree also with Stoney that there does seem an increased togetherness since I rediscovered NMA live in 2007. Don't and won't do Facebook myself but the board is great and I have made some good friends through it and the gigs over the last four years. Cannot wait for hopefully some more great live shows in 2012 and who knows a new album, if Justin's timeline hasn't got too 'elastic'.

The bridport venue was great as was the town and pubs.Taking account the whole event as well as just the set probably my favourite UK gig of last year. :)

Bridport was awesome, the best for me too, but the band never disappoints. October was great. December was great too. Amsterdam was wonderful.
The new style is needed, so the band always sound current  without losing the original essence.
Is it the times we laughed about it all
Through all those whisky nights so far away?
