Jaw dropping moment of the games so far?

For me it was the Cuban pole vaulter narrowly missing being impaled when his pole snapped into 3 pieces. It looks awesome in slow motion. Anyone got a link for it?

Also, what about the Bulgarian hurdler called Stambolova who stumbled over at the first hurdle!

I'd decided that the Olympics were rubbish and should be banned on Wednesday because GB didn't win any medals that day.  Obviously I'd started to accept it again when more golds were won yesterday, but then this happened and knocked my confidence once more!   Luckily a Welsh lass gave some other girl a late night kicking in the head to win another gold, so that's restored my faith again...for now!

Actually we should be very proud of what we did!

Medal places: US: 104, China 88, Russia 82, Britain 65.

If I then take just the US (if China or Russia its even more), and extrapolate out how many we would have won if were the geographic or population size of, say the number 1 the US.

If we were the size of the US in landmass we would have won 2600 medals, though perhaps its fairer per population in which case we would have won 325.

Other way round, if the US were the size of the UK, they would have won 3 medals and same population they would have won 13.

So yeah WE DID OK!  ;)

They had a tv channel dedicated to just football/soccer. I was in heaven. Congrats to the us women and the Mexican men.
I'm geared towards the averagae rather than the exceptional.

I think was most impressive about the whole Olympics experience was that the transport system worked (and anyone who commutes around London will have their doubts/fears) and the friendly atmosphere of the crowds and the volunteers, who were extremely helpful and friendly and very different from our usual British reserve...

hopefully the same thing will carry over to the Paralympics

it's nice to be able to be positive and drop my usual cyncism!

The paralympics is great....  I'm going to advertise my ignorance I know, but I had no idea you could ride a bike like that with a missing limb, and in the case of a missing leg not necessarily  using a prosethetic in its place, but just using one leg and side of your body to reach those speeds ...  looking forward to watching more today. Channel 4's coverage isn't as good as the BBC's Olympics, but they have a great show on afterwards http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-last-leg-with-adam-hills . Normally I avoid chat shows like the plague as they tend to be stuffed with smug self-importance, but this is genuinely funny and refreshing and well worth a look.
