Sheffield, Plug, 11/5/13
« on: May 12, 2013, 02:11:52 PM »

A big thank you to the band for a top gig last night in Sheffield. I thought the lads really brought it.
Dunno what other people thought, but the venue seemed ok, maybe better than Corp?
Good to see Joolz on stage as well. Ceri's  bodhran playing was a good moment. He really fits in well, for me anyway.
Good support band too, Electric River; got their EP, which plays well.

Yep great performance and venue. Sensible beer prices for a change. Pity about people talking over Justin between songs, seems to happen at gigs in Sheffield.

The amount of talking was ridiculous, all the way through, even could be heard over the quieter bits of songs. I don't know if the lighting always has those bright white lights aimed to dazzle the audience (first NMA gig in 19 years) but that helped spoil the gig for me, and gave my better half a headache. I thought the sound could  have been better too, Justin's vocals were too quiet, Justin's voice and lyrics are important and should be heard (Joolz' bit couldn't be heard either). The guitars also seemed to lack power, and the whole thing was too quiet.

Really enjoyed the performance despite not knowing a fair few tracks (the last album I bought was Strange Brotherhood)

Welcome back - don't leave it another 19 years, JS has only guaranteed up to a 40th anniversary so far ; ~ D

Thanks, I'll be around again, although I don't think I'll be following complete tours these days, too old and skint. I will however catch up on the back cat stuff that I'm missing. Not sure how many people I knew from back then are still about, but caught up with Speedy & Rie on the merchandise stall.

Sheffield and Northampton were both great. The sound seemed better in Roadmenders, but the pit edged it in Sheffield I think. Dunno, both great gigs! March continues grow (tho' I still think keys' are too prominent in the mix live), time will tell, the Horsemen and 7 Times The Sun (? I think) are unusual, but seem to grow on listening more. Not been let down 27 years and see no reason for it to start now! I think the new album may be somewhere between Eight and Navigating By The Stars. Just first impression on the newer songs so far and the things Mr S has said about being different from the last 3 lps.........
