I know tribute acts probably don't get much respect around these parts, but I just got back from 'The Bowie Experience' at my local theatre and it was a cracking good night out. OK, the singer looks about as much like Bowie as I do (more like Bill Nighy after a night on the drugs) but he had a superb tight band behind him, they played a great mix of hits and rareties and with a slick and expensive-looking show... if you're into Bowie and they play somewhere near you, I'd advise you to give it a punt.  Let's face it, the original ain't gonna be touring anytime soon...   :'(

Assuming the cash situation goes well, I'm looking at the Splendour one-day festival in Nottingham Wollaton Park this year... Manic Street Preachers and The Specials are headlining with more bands to be announced (OK, All Saints are also on the bill, that's gonna be a beer-tent moment...)

It's also exactly 17 years to the day that I had a lovely day out at something called Distortion at the same place... Green Day, Iggy Pop, Idlewild, The Wildhearts, The Levellers,Hundred Reasons and several others, all for £25!  I don't suppose anyone else posting here was at that one?

Great gig at Preston tonight.  Three bands, not a dud among them.  Deadwood Dog (rock with a mandolin), Soldato (rock with beards), and of course Blackballed (rock with cool hats).  Seriously tho' - cracking gig.  Nice to meet Red and pick up Blackballed's latest CD. Next one is NMA in Clitheroe.

Went to see Twenty One Pilots at Manchester Arena last night with my daughter and a work mate.  I do like a few tracks so not really a fan but what a performance it was, I tend to go and watch bands who stay on the main stage whereas this was more of a show with music and not what I'm usually accustomed to.  Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed it as it was so different to my usual gigs, they even paid tribute to the security crew and got them involved.

A young work mate of mine was at that one, he loved it.

Probably belongs on the 'how you know you are getting old' thread, but it's another example of how a band I've never heard of are playing massive arenas...   :-[

Maybe a bit special. Tomorrow I'm going to see Balthazar. Great Belgian band (check them out). What makes it special is that it is my 300th concert on setlist.fm :-D

I was there due to my soon to be 14 year old daughters love of music and who of course can not drive hence my involvement.  I've never tried to influence her in anyway shape or form in what musical path she takes and I delight in the fact that she loves music as much as me and is so knowledgeable in what she likes.  I've got Panic at the disco and Catfish and the bottlemen up and coming and she's mithering about festivals which I'm way to old for but hey, you never know.  If you have seen the film Suicide Squad Twenty One Pilots contributed the song Heathens which you may of heard and I actually really like.

Went to see Bob Mould at the Academy 2 in Manchester last night.  My brother was due to go but couldn't due to illness so my 13 year old daughter went in his place.  A role reversal from my visit to see Twenty One Pilots the other week, my turn to educate her and she enjoyed herself even though she was stood with a lot of old farts.

lostockboy, would you mind educating me in the ways of Mr Mould?  I have all the Sugar stuff (love that band!), quite a bit of Husker Du and absolutely nothing from his solo output.  Seeing as I've given up on finding new bands and now prefer to check out acts I've overlooked from the past (I'm on quite an Elvis Costello trip at the moment!) I'd appreciate some pointers!

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to bother anyone else with your (hopefully) extended ramblings...   ;)
