I was on another 40-year celebration show, well ours here will be next year;-) and i went to see a live - radio feature. the german word for that would be "hörspiel" and it is a common thing in germany. well, at least for my generation. in my youth we listened a lot to "hörspiele" bought tapes and listened to the storys with many actors and musik and sounddesign. so that is the difference from an hörspiel to an audiobook.

It was an amazing experience, being in a concert hall with almost 13.000 !!! people listening to "Die drei ? ? ? " and witnessing the voice acting and the sounddesigner doing live sounds with everyday items: the walking sounds, doors closing, wind, storm etc..

I think this is a german thing, getting so many people (the shows are sold out a year before and this was an added show and also sold out. my sister got me a ticket because her husband couldn't go, which are not very cheap to say a least) to sit and listen to an audio-book.

Anyone here who shares the passion for listening to storys ?....

Saw GWAR in cologne.
First Show for me after the death of Oderus in 2004. And after that i really wasn't eager to get the new record without him. But after a long while.... i did and i really liked it, but what would the show be like, if the main entertainer, this ultimate spontanous stage persona is missing...
It was great. The songs were good, a good set list and though the show was really stripped down, even one guitar was missing, and other chracters, i had lots of fun and never played so much headbanging airguitar with some other guys. Plenty of room in the moshpit, but at least there were more ethusisastic people to dance with, than the last time in cologne.

In fact it was so good, that i'm going to Bremen next week for another splash in the face;-)

Just bought tickets to see the Cowboy Junkies in May in Auckland. Never seen them before and I only have a handful of their albums but I always wanted to see them live. Looking forward to it.

Saw the Cavalera brothers this weekend. What. A. Party! Beneath the Remains is one of my all time favorite records.

Went to Bremen to see GWAR again and had a real blast!
I was early at the new venue, wanted to check it out before and there i met Matt Maguire = Sawborg Destructo, one of the creative people at Slave Pit, and he was about to search for a saloon to wash his clothing. So i joined him and we walked and talked and so i had the best interview about GWAR ever!;-) I tried to help with the washing machines and the display in german, so i chose machine no. 1, put his money into it and then we found out, that machine 1 was the only one machine out of order;-) Funny...
Then we sat there for an hour talking, he signed my GWAR Book and drew a little painting for me and he took it to the other guys who also signed it. These guys look so frightening on stage and their show is cruel and bloody, but also very funny and in good friendly spirit and underneath the masks, they are just nice open minded people, welcoming fans with no rock-star affectations. Hope they will return to europe again...

What a great story, thanks for sharing!  :)

And I used to love the ? ? ? - read the books and also listened to the Hörspiele. I have never caught any of the live performances, though, but many of my friends go every chance they get and love it!

Thanks for your comments, it was awesome;-)

matt wouldn' mind if i post this:

And yes, seeing ? ? ? live is a cool experience when you have grown up listening to voices, young voices and then have a picture of the guys doing their job. I think this is a generation thing, the crowd was more my age than young people though the concept of the storys is for children. I would say if you still like listening to ??? you should try to also see them. i think they will do a tour in 2020.

Loved your post!  Such a great story, thanks so much for sharing it and the super cool photos!  I'm almost positive you've seen this next clip, but if not, HAPPY  BIRTHDAY  Cthulhu!  lol, well... not just yet, and that's just a wild guess, but take it as a small gift anyhow.  :)  I loved it, when I saw it.  Even though, their music isn't really my cup of tea, I quite enjoyed their wit, humour... and am 100% positive you did or will, as well.  :)

Thanks 8! That's really lovely. And the funny part is, that i just saw that clip that you linked for the first time a day before you posted it. A good thing for me to watch, because they had some good recommendations of punkrock bands that i didn't know about. And imagine me, a rather small tiny (but handsome;.) guy wearing that huge helmet Beefcake the Mighty is wearing. This was so unexpected heavy, i thought it was like styrofoam, but it's actually very heavy. Those guys are dedicated to their show.
