Pre-gig Manchester meet, anyone..?
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:10:11 PM »
OK, thought I'd throw it out there, whats happening with a meet up before NMA at The Ritz?  It'd be nice to hang out with like-minded souls before a doubtlessly-awesome gig...

I know Manchester pretty well and we're lucky that The Ritz is just down the road from three great pubs that are literally a stones throw away from each other... Grand Central, The Salisbury and The Thirsty Scholar.

My personal choice?  The Thirsty Scholar.  It's kind of open-plan, plenty of space for a big intake of NMA fans, it has decently priced drinks plus a big smoking area outside.  The Salisbury is a good pub with a good jukebox.  Grand Central is a great pub if you're into heavy rock (Fear Factory, Pantera and the like) but we're going there for the aftershow, aren't we...?

My opinions, anyway.  Anyone more familiar with Manchester, please post if you have a better idea.  And feel free to PM me if there's anything you want to know...

 ;)

I think it's the Sal under the Railway Arches? Just round the corner from the venue. Usually the place to be.

All three of those pubs back onto each other and share an open space in front or at the side.

I would be interested in going along and meeting a few people from here before the gig  ;)

It's actually the Thirsty Scholar under the railway archways, but no matter, those three pubs are all so close...

Again, this seems like a good idea to me but if any Mancunians have better ideas, I'm happy to hear them...

I agree with these three pubs being the best for a meet. There are other pubs but they are further a field and then the minefield that is "giving directions" comes into play  ;)

Those three pubs are also so easy to find becaue they're right over the road from The Palace hotel... if you're not familiar with Manchester, just find your way onto Oxford Road and look for a massive redbrick hotel with a huge tower... those pubs are right over the road.

just don't go in the Thirsty Scholar... it's expensive as **** and utterly shit...although it's usually easy to get to the bar and bogs... mainly because it's so expensive and shit. Much better bets are the salisbury, the lass 'o gowrie ( just up the street other side from the Thirsty, other side of the road)... or there's always the Britons Protection, or The Peveril, or Rain Bar.
six on united tonight.

Really, citymike?  Gotta disagree, I've had many a cheap pint there... also a pretty chilled out place, IMO.

The Salisbury is also a good'un.  But the likes of The Britons Protection and The Peveril (don't know Rain Bar) are a bit far out and hard to find for someone who isn't all that familiar with Manchester and I think the point of this thread is to find convenient pubs for the Ritz.

But please, if anyones got better ideas than mine, keep 'em coming!

Well I hope you people who know Manchester pick somewhere before next Saturday, or I will plan to sit on the floor outside the Ritz with the Bartys , Purplehaze, and a few litres of Strongbow !!!

Sadly, after asking nicely to citymike to apologise for very prejudiced language, then having him come back with an insulting post directed at myself, I gave him time to see sense and apologise, but this was not forth coming. Now with his lastest post essentially issuing threats to various people on this Forum, I have been left with no choice but to remove citymike from the Forum.

I did not take this decision lightly but when rather gross verbal abuse decends into threats of physical violence I believe there is no choice.

I have cleaned up the thread and apologise to everyone about threads I have had to delete, but believe it's for the best.

May I suggest that on Saturday, everyone keeps calm and not rise to any provocation: any threats inside the venue please report to security and let them deal with it.

Viv, with respect, if someone is threatening violence, could you please give us the heads up?  I'm the most peaceful man on the planet, but we all need to look out for shit like that.  I don't want to introduce myself by my Forum name and have someone smash a glass in my face because he disagrees with my choice of pubs...

I was really looking forward to the Manchester gig, but now, I'm a bit worried....

I didn't see the posts you mentioned, please PM me if there's something I need to know...
