Koln pre-post gig drinks?
« on: November 24, 2013, 09:09:38 PM »
Hi there
the last time I have been to Koln it was 2011. We went to a nice antifa pub not so far away from the Palladium (I remember we went by foot under a bit of rain). It was a nice place do not remember the name though.  will be great to go back there someone remember the name?
Or anyway is there a pre gig meeting and sure a post gig one?
Veronique and I will be happy to join.
It has been difficult to attend gigs this time. I was in Africa for work when the tour started and when I came back I had to take care of our baby Maya so no way of travelling. But we will be in Koln for sure. The price is a bit unsane to me and also the doors at Palladium (6pm? and start at 7pm? wtf is it a gig for kids?)
Well anyway please let me know about potential drinks going on we will be happy to join if we can before the gig and for sure after!
Any suggestions of cheap accomodation close to the railway station?
cheers and Love to all.
Siimon

Last year in the afternoon we met up in the Irish pub on the main square (where the Xmas market is), afterwards everyone went to some place near the venue but we didn't go, anyway I'm sure nearer the date somebody will be more precise.

Accommodation-wise, we're staying at the Ibis Budget Koeln Messe again - it's not very near the train station but it's convenient enough, just one stop from it (Messe) on the S-Bahn across the river and the hotel is no more than 5 min walk from it, and there's a U-bahn (the name of which escapes me at the mo) station even closer... and it's on the right side of the river for the venue so closer to get back to after the gig/post-gig. When we booked (quite a while ago I must say) it was only €45 euros for the double room, by far the cheapest place in central Cologne we found. I don't know who else is staying but if it's like last year there's gonna be quite a few of us.

You're possibly thinking of Limes Bar  www.limes-koeln.de/

I would recommend Früh am Dom, in the corner of the square. Traditional German beer house that serves good food. As soon as you sit down, they put a beer in front of you, and replace it when it is empty. They tick your beer mat each time, then you pay at the end. It is also quite large with many rooms. Love that place  ;)

The various Kolsch halls are all good but they get absolutely rammed on a Saturday at that time of year (and Fruh must be one of the busiest).  Ok if there's just a few of you, or if you just want to stand for a few beers.

we're getting into Cologne around 3 in the afternoon, drop our bags in the hotel and make our way into town - I was assuming the Corconian like last year, if it's somewhere else please let me know if not see you in there

Oh, I wish I was going to the Cologne gig. Cologne such a nice city.

Simon, if you get time, a really great pub near the centre, Papa Johns. Great pub with a strong old fashioned German atmosphere. They have a local equivalent of Jager Meister called "Doctor". Tastes the same, but a fraction of the price.

Either way, have a great gig  ;)
