Just watched a great movie called HER... now, this is the oddest scenario for a film... it's about a man who falls in love with his computer Operating System.  Yeah, I know, sounds daft as hell...

... but I loved it, best film I've seen in ages.  Directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Where The Wild Things Are, two films I loved), you might think it's some 'quirky' / hipster type film, but it goes from being just plain odd to very funny to genuinely moving and quite profound, especially when you consider how hung up people are nowadays in relation to their technology.

Although, thinking about it, I'm slightly worried that I find a film about the relationship between a man and his computer far more moving than so many films about 'real' relationships...  ???

Anyway, I'd check it out if I were you.

Just finished watching PHILOMENA... a superb movie based on a true story.  Judi Dench and Steve Coogan were both excellent.  And, whilst I don't want to get into a big debate about religion, it's another nail in the coffin as far as the Catholic faith goes, IMO...  >:(

I might now stick on that new show PENNY DREADFUL, there are huge billboards all around my hometown and it looks promising with a great cast (Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper, Eva Green), but I think I might fall asleep well before the end...  :)

24, anyone..?

Just watched the first two eps of the new series... yeah, it's silly stuff that would make a Bond film look realistic, but Keifer Sutherland is an awesome actor and it's all good nasty fun... certainly a lot better than any soap opera or Simon Cowell bollocks...

Haven't seen that Once Upon A Time show...

Sir, get onto GOT asap.  A terrific episode, the last 20 mins or so is based around The Imps trial... and it's ******* heartbreaking.  Peter Dinklage is so good... no spoilers, all I'll say is when he says 'please, don't...'  :'(

Agreed that Littlefinger and the mad breastfeeding sister deserve a fate as bad as Joffrey's....

Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

That LONE RANGER flick was a collosal flop, but I've heard a few good things about it so I'll give it a go... sounds like a lazy Sunday afternoon kind of flick...

An update on that PENNY DREADFUL show... watched ep 1 and it looks like one to stick with, at least for a bit, especially if you like period drama that's a bit on the gory side.  Basically, it's about a rich man in 1891 investigating supernatural stuff after his family disappeared and recruiting various characters (some of whom are from famous literature, with names from real life creeping in) to help him... I'm being a bit vague, no spoilers here, so no more synopsis other than that but it looks like an enjoyable show.  Think it starts on Sky next week.

I guess each to their own. I like it and really dont get the panning it received. Watched the Robocop remake today. Pretty good too.

Aw, DrummyB, watched that ROBOCOP remake the other night, bloody hated it!

Still, as you said, each to their own...

If you're after a remake of a Paul Verhovan film that isn't too bad, check out TOTAL RECALL... quite enjoyed that one...

Yeah. Ive seen it. Pretty good too. The Arnie one looks a bit dated now in comparison. Another one to watch is Elysium.

ELYSIUM is well worth a look, good call!

Anyone seen a great vampire flick called BYZANTIUM?  Well worth checking out.  Directed by Neil Jordan (INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, MONA LISA, THE CRYING GAME), it's about a mother and daughter pair of vampires in a little seaside town.  Bit slow to start, but once it gets going, it's excellent.  Terrific cast (Gemma Arterton, Saiorse Ronan, Sam Riley, Tom Holland, Johnny Lee Miller) and a good story.

Just watching (whilst tapping away on my keyboard) the Metallica concert film THROUGH THE NEVER... pretty good, even though the bands best days are obviously far behind them.  Very well shot and indispersed with some odd story about a kid who gets paid to run an errand for the band and runs into all kinds of mad shit outside... whatever.  It's interesting how pretty much every song played it from the 80's or 90's, almost like they've given up on any interest in their new music...
