I did watch Inside Out the other night, love those Pixar films... beautifully made and funnier and more moving than most 'grown-up' movies... also with a 'message' that's quite profound for a film aimed at families...

Right now, catching up with the first few episodes of Homeland, not nearly as good as it was for the first series, but still quite compulsive viewing...

Film, Election. Matthew Broderick / Reese Witherspoon. Good film.

Alexander Payne's best film with "About Schmidt"!
It's funny, satirical, and i like Reese Witherspoon! 8)

Pixar are superior "family" entertainment...with "Inside Out" they are at their most "cerebral"...clever and touching movie.

SPOILERS FOR 'INSIDE OUT'...

... I genuinely thought the concept of sadness being a huge part of life and essential for 'growing up' was a brilliant thing to stick in a kids movie, especially for kids who might have certain issues... don't get that in a fuckin' Transformers movie, do you?

yes, it was a bit unexpected and clever...some "non family" movies are more shy to deliver realistic ideas like this one!

I like that war film. Like a truly good war film, it is not about hero's. Instead it deals well with the feelings and fears of the young men knowing they will soon be going over the top. No big battle scenes. Thought Danny Dyer was good playing his usual "wide boy role" only to be shown as the most scared in the end.  Nice to see Daniel Craig in a pre-famous role also. Well worth a watch if you have not seen it.

It's all about the claustrophobic relationship between just a few characters. How life must have been in that situation, how to while away the time, with the ever present menace of going over the top, and how to get through each day.

My Great Grandfather fell at Passchendaele in 1917 at the age of 31, I found his name at Tyne Cot cemetery this time last year, when I visited Belgium for the centenary of the start of the great war. So this film gives me just an inkling of what life must have been like for him as a "Tommy"

I seem to remember this was a low budget film at the time British film makers we're practically skint.

Mr Craig also did a film in 2000 called 'Some Voices', absolutely excellent but pretty much forgotten nowadays, you can't get it in DVD and it isn't even on Youtube.  It very occasionally shows up on Film 4, deffo check it out if you get a chance... trailer here...

Just watched the movie remake of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Loved that show as a kid. It was OK, but not surprised it flopped, bit dreary in places.  Also, a few huge spoilers in the bloody trailers!

As a side subject, I think Mr Brosnan did a film set in a poor Ireland after being Mr Bond? I could be wrong of course

You must be very proud of him. Passchendaele 1917 was hell on earth. "the battle of mud" after the artillery shells had destroyed the field drainage for  the area that the low lying land the battle was fought on. Terrible conditions for the men, more so than the other campaigns. To go through that and not make it...  We all owe him a debt of gratitude.

On a lighter note, it was during that campaign the soldiers humour kicked in. The men could often be found sunk past the Knees in the mud, when their mates offered  hand to pull them out, the classic reply was "I would get me self out but I can't get my feet out of the stirrups"

In all honesty Shush I have no recollection of him as a person. I never knew about him until recent. Everybody is silent about soldiers to this day.... I just go the nearest war memorial and stand in silence for a few moments. It doesn't take long
