I'm still waiting for a DVD or Blu of 'Savage Nights' to appear in the UK... not only a great film but to my knowledge, the only time an NMA song showed up in a movie!   >:(

Sounds interesting. Well, I've to admit I know nothing about French films - other than the ones that I mentioned (but "Le Haine" which is GREAT).
Btw, Les Rivières pourpres was Crimson Rivers in English... First was excellent, second wasn't...

Guillaume, how about, what are your favourites in French films? Cristophe Gans (f.e. "The Brotherhood of the Wolves" - Le Pacte Des Loups)?

Christophe Gans was a great critic (i loved his cinema magazine Starfix in the 80's, very passionnate magazine about directors and movies...here's a cool book released a few months ago with some of their best reviews and features:
and as a director i quite like his movies, they are visually very nicely done...i remember liking "crying freeman", "le pacte des loups" and "silent hill", i was a bit mixed about his "beauty and the beast" though.

"Le Haine" which is GREAT).

Kassovitz is a fine actor and a good director too, especially his early movies (and the last one "l'ordre et la morale" was good too), my favourite film from him is still "Assassin(s)", a very controversial movie, very bleak, somber, violent,  melancholy movie; a tale about violence in suburbs and our overwhelming "medias" society.

One of my favourite french movies is Claude Berri's "Tchao pantin", a moving sad "thriller" with great lead performances, a story about loneliness, friendship, love and death!...also a good picture/portrayal of Paris in the early 80's :

I haven't watched this movie in years but i remember it did well at the box office but was again another very controversial movie here!
And yes, you can hear "Purity" a few seconds, in the film, when the lead character (and director Cyril Collard -RIP-) is driving. ;)

'Marion and Geoff', never watched this before despite liking Rob Brydon in various things.  Just binge-watched the first series.  Basically an ongoing monologue, one guy in a car recording himself talking about his life after his divorce.  Sounds boring, I know, but it's often funny and often very sad.  Off to get series 2 now!

Alien Covenant. Hmmm. Its ok. I just think its becoming too predictable after Prometheus started with the promise of something else.

The latest pirates of the Caribbean,  I've only seen bits of the others. Found this certainly enjoyable enough,  the cgi is mostly used to good effect tho goes a bit overboard  (pun intended)  at times

Just checked out a flick called 'The Exception'.  Pretty good.  WW2 kind of thing.  I'd give it a go if I were you.  Trailer here...

Absolutely superb, director Christopher Nolan knocked it out of the bloody park with this one. His best film, methinks. Not much in the way of storyline but truly visceral, spectacular and very moving in places. It's rare to see a cinema audience so utterly quiet and spellbound. Yes, even the kiddies who came to see a certain annoying boy-band scrote from Holmes Chapel (and, whisper it, he was pretty good)... ;o)

Also nice to see a big Hollywood film that isn't the best part of three hours long, a trim and tight 100 minutes!

Bloody loved this one, it's a masterpiece, deffo worth checking out on the big screen.

Churchill - not the insurance dog but the ww2 prime minister.
Was very unsure about this one but it's very enjoyable not sure how accurate it is as it shows a side of him I certainly didn't know.  Gets a recommendation from me . Good to watch a proper decent movie for a change that relies on acting n not cgi

Haven't seen that yet, but I'm keen to see this years other Churchill film, Darkest Hour, coming out soon, Gary Oldman playing Churchill and this might be the performance of the year... or at least the best make-up job of the year!
