Gave 'Rain Man' another go, since I don't think I've seen it since the 90's.  Very good film.  And is it wrong that I think the true standout performance here is Tom Cruise, not Dustin Hoffman?  Cruise is far more subtle and goes through a proper 'journey' (to use that cringe-worthy expression) as opposed to Mr Hoffmans performance (great as it is) which is a bit one-note and 'gimme an Oscar' kind of thing...?   ???  That bit where he shows his brother how to dance, then tries to hug him and Raymond starts screaming... a bit of a heartbreaker.   :'(

..is it wrong that I think the true standout performance here is Tom Cruise, not Dustin Hoffman? .

Cruise is fine (his best -- and only great performance -- was in BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY), but Hoffman's Oscar caliber performance is a sham. You foreigners may not be aware of this (heck, 99% of Americans aren't aware of this, but I have a 148 IQ so I am), Hoffman's "performance" is nothing but a complete imitation of an autistic man he saw being profiled on the TV news program "60 Minutes." All Hoffman did was completely mimic that guy's mannerisms and speech patterns. Hoffman did nothing at all that could be called acting. All he did was ape the poor guy he saw on "60 Minutes." True story.

The guy's name was George Finn and if you really want to get angry with Hoffman's Oscar win, then click on this link and watch just ten seconds of it. Man, all Hoffman did was imitate Mr. Finn. And you'll be astonished how closely he did it.

Sorry, Space, you obviously didn't get the memo, so I'll break my promise to Viv and repeat that I won't respond to anything you ever say here (even though I obviously did just now... just to make a point...)

I'm very embarrassed that Viv had to get involved with our animosity, the man had far better things to do, so I'll say this in the nicest terms I possibly can.  I will respond to posts anywhere in this Forum.  As should you.  But please don't ever aim a comment at me again.  I will ignore you as you should ignore me.  I have no interest in anything you might have to say.  We'll direct our comments around what the other posters have to say.  OK?

Anyway...  30 Days Of Night, great horror movie from 2007, rented it from Blockbuster back then and I don't think Ive seen it since.  Picked it up for pennies in CEX today and it's a cracking good horror film.

I gave 'Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets' another go (seeing as I fell asleep and gave up on it the first time I tried...) and you know what?  It was a pretty decent sci-fi film that I enjoyed a lot.  Yes, there are plot holes that you could drive a spaceship through, the title character is utterly un-charismatic and much of the dialogue seems to have come through Google-Translate... but it's VERY spectacular, very imaginative, occasionally moving and funny and has a pretty decent storyline... whisper it, I liked it better than the last few Star Wars movies... give it a go, it just showed up on Netflix UK...

Just finished watching the 2nd motogp race of the season from Argentina.  Keeping it quick,  very controversial decisions before the start where they basically changed the rules.  Brilliant win for Britains Cal Cruthlow on the lcr Honda.

And do you believe the movies DUNKIRK and DARKEST HOUR weren't bullsh*t?
I only found them worth to watch. Not the greatest films I've ever seen.Loved the sound work in Dunkirk. The dark atmosphere of war was also good.Darkest Hour was a bit boring movie but was not a time waste.Watched the both movies on a long pass flight.
As for '12 Strong' I watched it till the end. It was exactly like I thought.Good filming and shooting.Good camera work and action scenes.I accept that. And super american heroes kicked the ass.Gave em hell.Took 9/11's revenge. And brought peace, love and happiness to Afghanistan.Just like the 'American Sniper'.They went back home to their pretty wives and families in U.S.Mission completed.
One thing I found pretty far from reality is the scene they were attacking against taliban with horses. On such an extreme and terrible sound of machine guns,tanks,anti-tank gun and rockets and all other machines firing bullets, how did they dive into the valley riding on horses against all this heavy fire? I did my military service and I know how these machines sound. But they're super hero's horses and such terrible sound and heavy fire don't affect them! Anyway I still think about the movie same way I mentioned before.

Saw that remake not so long ago, thought it was ok (even if it was in German which I still can't follow a film in) - nice use of a bear trap  ;)

Watching this interview with Noel Gallagher at the moment, very interesting and I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that there's something a bit attractive about him.........  ???

This 10 episode mini-series just started airing here in the United States of Trump. Called "The Terror" (that's the name of one of the ships marooned in the Arctic) and the reviews were out of sight. Tons of Brit actors in a story about an ill-fated British voyage of exploration to the North pole in 1850.

But here's the thing. Though the story really did happen, this film is fiction. No one knows what happened to those two ships. So what "The Terror" deals with is supposedly one of the best horror tales in decades. One review mentioned the first few hours are like the first hour of the film ALIEN. Remember those scenes when they landed on that planet? Tense, moody atmosphere of suspense and terror. The first hour or so of this TV series is definitely capturing that dread, that unknown.

It's based on a book that came out about ten years ago. That book had the most incredible reviews I've come across. I love tales of Arctic exploration, but for some reason I never got the book. Until a few days ago. Just started it.

So far similar to Ridley Scott's film ALIEN. (Not surprising, Ridley Scott is an executive producer of "The Terror.")
