Born On The Fourth Of July.  I just wish Tom Cruise would take more risks in his acting these days and do something like this superb film instead of doing fook-awful shit like that 'Mummy' movie...
Ummmm. I quite liked it   ;D

i'm pretty sure someone, possibly Pol, brought this one up before, but I just gave 'Final Score' a go.  Quite an enjoyable watch, basically 'Die Hard at West Ham's stadium with the big dude from Guardians Of The Galaxy'...  ;D

Not sure if I posted final score tho I have seen it . I kinda drifted off during it ( my attention span is poor ) . It was ok ish from what I remember.

The purge ( tv series) if you like the films then you will definitely enjoy this , 4 episodes currently available.
The nun, I'm not a big horror film fan as they need to be really good.  This is 1 of better horror films in a vastly over crowded genre

I've seen that film about twenty times. I never bother with the final thirty minutes or so, but the first three acts of BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY are brilliant.

And Tom Cruise did take risks -- BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY -- but it appears today he prefers the easy, big money. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE films, stupid summer fare like THE MUMMY, a TOP GUN sequel.... Too bad he rarely tests himself, he actually had talent as an actor. 4th OF JULY is proof of that. He really is very, very good in that film.

'Mandy'... bloody hell, that was an oddity.  Nicolas Cage and Andrea Riseborough in a sort of arthouse horror movie... proper mental stuff, see the trailer and decide if it's one for you.  Trust me when I say that the trailer is about as rational as it gets...  :D

And, rest assured, Nic goes THE FULL CAGE in places and the gore is, indeed, very gory...

So, is it OK that the new Doctor Who is a lady?

After watching tonights episode I'd say a slightly subdued YES... Jodie Whittaker is a fine actress and did a good job but lacked somewhat the 'gravitas moment' that previous Doctors had in their debut episodes, that bit that reminds you that you're watching an alien who is a couple of thousands of years old... I'll stick with it, obviously.

It was ok. Just ok. Potentially she could be very good but I wasnt wowed. It was a bit quirky with no depth I felt.

Grand Budapest Hotel. What a great film  :)

Gave the new Doctor Who episode another watch without a beer-clouded mind.  Liked it better second time around.  It deffo seems like another attempt at getting new viewers on board, like the original reboot in 2005.  Viewing figures are apparently the best in a decade, even beating 'Bodyguard'!

The first post-regeneration episode always had the Doctor a bit manic, so hopefully it'll calm down next episode.  The new companions are quite likeable although I liked Graham the best (can't imagine why a grumpy middle-aged man like me would think that  ;) ) and THAT death near the end added a bit of emotional impact, especially in view of how it might relate to a couple of characters...

Also, it's a new experience to think 'Yeah... I quite fancy Doctor Who.'   ;D

Watching it again now. Its still just ok. Needs a bit of a darker element built into it at some point. But Ill see how the next episode goes. Its one of those shows where you either love or hate the new Doctor I guess. I liked Peter Capaldi. The other half didnt. Ying and Yang.

I am seriously considering watching the new season now and then catch up on seasons 2 to 10 afterwards...  ::)

Might be an idea!  Personally, I'd go for the new series after watching season 2- 10, but this new series seems to be right back to the Eccleston series, the idea of 'come on board, you don't need to know much about the old stuff'!'

It's been said by the new showrunner that there will be very little reference to past series in the new run of episodes... but that's your choice.   :)

Carrying on with 'The Cry' on the BBC.  Pretty interesting show, especially as the second episode slowed down somewhat on the relentless 'flashbacks / flash forwards' bits.  I'll stick with it...

True that, Pol.  And The Crow is a cracker of a film.

I also had a shit day so it's another viewing of one of my fave films ever, 'Once'... trailer here.  One of the best films ever about making music (and the soundtrack is superb)
