Yesterday i saw the first 5 episodes of Vice Principals and had some good laughs. It's funny how you can relate to a character who is simply a narcistic, stupid, selfish asshole and often you just feel ashamed for him. but funny as hell. a funny monster?

Yeah, but as a human being don't you feel that you relate best to the character of Ray? The guy who married Gamby's ex-wife is really the best character in the show. It's odd, the guy was simply a very nice guy and he provided great laughs because he was so nice and said nice, kind things. His behavior towards Gamby is pretty funny. Gamby is a complete dick and Ray doesn't go down to Gamby's level. He provides a stability in the crazy world and it's actually pretty funny to watch.

@Master Ray
in my favourite german movie magazine "splatting image" they called those movies "heroic bloodshed".

Got a christmas present and it's the new Twin Peaks series. Don't know if i will see it today, i'm more in the mood for an old, rubber monster sea creature, ray harryhousen style monster movie.. 8)

Do get onto the recent Twin Peaks series, but only if you're looking at the 'Lost Highway' / 'Fire Walk With Me' / 'Inland Empire' version of David Lynch rather than 'let's see our old Twin Peaks pals hanging around and eating cherry pie and drinking damn fine coffee' nostalgia-fest concept... it's pretty bloody mental right from the off...   :o

yes, of course. what i meant is that i so much like this kind of humor, watching people really make a fool of themselves and by that un-masking at the same time things no one wants to see in theirselves.
ray is really just a good person, dealing with all attacks of gamby by just understanding and letting him act it out.
when you have a child and you have to deal with someome else raising it more than you can do, because you don't live together, the acting of gamby really shows some depth.. of bad, unsure feelings. and then you know that there's almost nothing ray could do to take that away. only time can. and some good self-reflection. but anyway, again a really funny, good tv show!

A wee teaser , need to do a bit more research.

https://youtu.be/XM0xWpBYlNM

I know a few people on here are big fans .
Edit - so done a bit of digging apparently it's a interactive movie thing where the choices you make let's you watch 90mins of just over 5 hours of content.  Hey I'm confused too lol . Its on Netflix tomorrow .

Glad you like it!  Not many people did...

And if you think it's a bit weird at the moment, wait until you get to the eighth episode...  :o

Probably my favourite TV show of the last couple of years.

I was going to post the 'Black Mirror' trailer but Pol beat me to it.  Can't wait for that one... be interesting to see how the non-Netflix subscribers get around THAT!   ???

Any of you Euros getting this new HBO show "My Brilliant Friend"?

It's all in Italian, based on a big Italian bestseller...and it is so darn good.

I love the fact that HBO did not do the show in English. It's all subtitled (and that turns a lot of people off over here), but the show has really caught on. Everybody who sees it recommends it to somebody else and a show all done in Italian is a bit of a hit here in the USA. Who'd a thunk it?

OK, I just watched that interactive Black Mirror episode on Netflix, 'Bandersnatch'?...  actually, I played it.  You don't just watch 'Bandersnatch'...

I'll do my best to avoid SPOILERS (because... well, I'll explain...) but if you want to go into it cold, avoid the rest of my message.   ;)

All I can say is it was a whole bunch of fun.  Remember those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books from your childhood?  When you'd reach a page and give you a choice to, I dunno, 'kill the monster (turn to page 37)' or 'make friends with the monster (turn to page 70)'?  This is exactly like that, but on TV.  Set in the mid 80s, we're shown a young computer programmer trying to make a ZX Spectrum game out of a CYOA book written by someone who went on to murder his wife.  He's got mental health problems and is driving himself mad trying to finish the game...

Throughout 'Bandersnatch' you are offered choices as to what you can do, ranging from insignificant choices like choosing what to have for breakfast to whether you can kill someone (and some insignificant choices can have major implications!). The changes are seamless, no buffering, and can lead to a whole bunch of timelines.  I spent about three hours watchng / playing 'Bandersnatch' (apparently there's about 5 hours of footage in total) and saw four different endings.  Also went down a couple of timelines that were so 'meta' that it made me properly laugh out loud, oh Charlie Brooker and his brilliant sense of humour...  ;D

Yes, I know it sounds like a video game, so please, no comments from gamers about 'we've been doing this since the year dot', but never in such a critically acclaimed show like BM.   ;)

Apparently, you can just watch it as a film (your device will give you a linear version of the film)  but you're missing so much... I loved it and will go back a time or two to see what I haven't discovered yet...

Outside of that, i thought it was a brilliant evocation of the mid 80's and the performances were superb all around.  Trailer here...

Anyway, new non-interactive eps of 'Black Mirror' are going to be available early in the new year, so yay!

i watched the 8th episode of the new twin peaks....and i'm blown away!! this is the best television production ever (imho), if you can still call it television. i don't know much about the production details, who was involved (HBO), but this wasn't produced for the big screen and it is a series, so almost impossible for the cinema. but the only thing i can compare it with is: 2001, by kubrick.
this is no easy cost, it demands from the viewer... to be patient, to watch, to observe, to be im-pressed by the attack of the images, the music..and the connections you begin to make in your subconsciousness. damn, i love this.

to get back to the black mirror thing: i do love this series too and i totally skipped everything master ray wrote in the post above, have to see this later. when pol posted the trailer i started it for about 19 seconds and then i stopped, looking forward to it. i try to avoid most of the information before i see something, i won't even read the back of a blu before watching a new film.
the most pleasant surprises i  had, when i thought this was going to be a totally different movie than it was, like ecpecting a comedy but then its a tear raising drama...or the other way around.
