Sunderland til I die -its probably one for football fans outside the top four of English football.
Hala (from the Anglo-Saxon word "halh", meaning nook or remote valley), until it was gifted by King Henry II to Welsh Prince David Owen and became known as Halas Owen

The Disappearance Of Alice Creed.  A truly excellent UK thriller.

OK, best film I've seen this year so far... Dragged Across Concrete.  From the director of two other great (and under-rated) films Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99.  Trailer below...

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysQaamR_h2E

It's somewhat overlong at 159 minutes and, be warned, is rather slow in the first half... but the second half is tense as hell.  Great performances all around (it's the best performance that Mad Mel has given in God knows how long) and it is, shall we say, somewhat un-PC in places... but I bloody loved this film.   :)

Series 2 of Cobra Kai.  For the uninitiated, a TV sequel to the Karate Kid movies. Bloody loved series 1, series 2 is just as great, cheesy as hell but, c'mon, sometimes in life you have to embrace the cheese!   Trailer for s2 here (don't watch if you fancy watching s1, a spoiler or two might be here!)

Gave 'Fighting With My Family' a go and really enjoyed it, the 'true story' (I suspect it might be somewhat enhanced for entertainment purposes) of a young girl from Norwich who became rather big in the world of American wresting.  Based on a documentary from a few years back that I'm pretty sure I saw.  It's a bit cheesy but also rather funny, some great performances and it's got a lot of heart.  A fun watch, trailer below...

THE TRAIN

Burt Lancaster must stop a train laden with the greatest works of art before it reaches Nazi Germany.  Obviously, a different type of war film - French resistance risking lives to save artwork? - and because of that it has always been a fave of mine. Not really an action film, just a top film with some characters making difficult choices. And Paul Scofield makes a great Nazi.

This has got to be watched by EVERYBODY!

CHERNOBYL. A new five part series currently airing.

There's a thread here at this site dealing with horror films. Can we delete that thread, please? Why? Because any film on that thread - dealing with zombies and monsters and creepy things - is lame, stupid, not horror. Real horror and fear and terror is CHERNOBYL. Hands down the most frightening film I have ever seen.

The fear is twofold: the nuclear disaster and the Soviet Union itself. Watch the first episode and you will be just as horrified at the Soviet officials as you are over the devastating meltdown. An astonishing film.

Just gave the new version of 'Pet Semetary' a go, one of my very fave Stephen King books and I wasn't terribly fond of the first film adaptation... sadly this one is also a great big heap of 'meh'.  Again, so much left out from the book and the new stuff they put in is mostly crap (apart from a few scenes with the daughter... but no spoilers here!)

Not truly terrible (there are enough King adaptations that deserve that title) but a missed opportunity.  As I said, the original book is excellent.

Just watched the first episode of 'The Virtues', the new 4 part series from Shane Meadows (This Is England, Dead Mans Shoes, A Room for Romeo Brass etc...) and the brilliant Stephen Graham in the lead role... it was stunning.  Trailer below...

No spoilers, but the scene in the pub is the best depiction ever of how a 'quiet drink after work' can turn into an absolute horror show...  :-[
