Chernobyl  - well we all kinda know what happened. This hbo mini series gives a more detailed look at the actual events and just how close we were to a  major catastrophe.  Definitely worth a watch imo

Deffo on my watchlist, despite some sniffy reviews online.

Just finished series 2 of 'Barry', which is an absolutely excellent show...

.
"Sniffy" reviews? The series is one of the best reviewed series I've ever come across. Go to IMDb. "Chernobyl" is scoring an astonishing 9.6!

And that is actually low in my mind. A more perfect production will be hard to find. Then when you add the gripping story itself...well, you have one of the best things you will ever see on TV.

It is what film, music, books, theater...all art should be. It tells us what we are as human beings. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Human. It also takes us deep inside worlds in which we are unfamiliar (the nuclear and Soviet worlds).

Just when you think HBO can not top itself, they give us something like "Chernobyl."

I'm pretty sure Chernobyl was 86 , was good to have a proper look at recent history that we were part of but maybe too young/busy/disinterested to take proper notice. Remembering the ussr/ kgb/ communism fk it doesn't seem that long ago .

Just gave ep 2 of 'The Virtues' a watch.  Dammit, this is a tough watch (brilliant performances) but so compelling.  Think I'm gonna need to stick on something that's a lot lighter to send me off to bed tonight...

Well, I'll take on advice, have obtained the first three eps on 'Chernobyl', probably start watching tomorrow.  Bit of a 'book and music' kind of night tonight, but just to say that there's three new episodes of the wonderful 'Black Mirror' available to stream from June 5th... I know there's a few BM fans here, so just in case you hadn't heard...  ;)  Trailer below...

I have read the book below. It's a new book that deals with The Bee Gees ups and downs and the making of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. It is a fantastic, quick read (and filled with interesting little tid bits: Did you know Peter Frampton plays guitar on the song "Grease"?).

What makes the book really great is that it presents one of the oddest things in entertainment: the biggest success for an artist became a career killer. The Bee Gees created one of the great works of our time. Those songs in that film are brilliant...yet, shortly after that film they were embarrassed to play them. Afraid to play them. They did such a great job on those disco songs that they were labeled a disco band and became the focal point for all disco hate. Disco sucks!...and The Bee Gees was the face of that. Imagine doing something so great that you are cursed by it. Odd, but true.

BBC4 is excellent for interesting music documentaries. During the week I caught the first episode of a 3 part series called Rhythms of India, presented by British Indian sarod player and film composer, Soumik Datta, who I have to say I had never heard of before. However, he was thoroughly engaging and enthusiastic as he travelled around India exploring the roots of Indian music. Something I had previously had barely any real knowledge about. Just happened to see the start of the programme and thought I'd watch a minute or two, but ended up engrossed in it. Lovely programme, with two more episodes to come

Well, I have 'Chernobyl' a go... and it really was rather good.  Bit of a slow burner (if you'll excuse the pun) but really got going towards the end... damn, that final shot with the bird...  :(

Deffo be sticking with this one.

Seeing as I've got nothing to do tonight, it might be time for another re-watch of 'The Raid' and 'The Raid 2'...

Yup, ep 2 of Chernobyl confirm it as being a must-watch.  A true eye-opener, I obviously knew about this event but being a teen boy in 1986 I wasn't paying too much attention to boring stuff like 'the news'.  I didn't understand the true scale of it.  And it's so bloody tense... no spoilers here, but that last five minutes of ep2...  :-\

Episode 2 confirms it as being a "must watch"? No, I confirmed it as being a "must watch" a number of posts back.
