Ha, one of those comedy films that I've somehow never managed to get around to... friends of mine speak of it highly.  Well, that's another one to put onto my 'must-watch' list...  ;)

That is one of my all-time favourite comedy!! You could see it as a spoof of Walk the Line, but i haven't seen that one so i cannot say.
But Walk Hard has such wonderful ironic music, so well written and performed!! And the cast is superb!
It is the typical Judd Apatow Humour, a little special i would say, it can range from pure nonsense-slapstick to heartfelt, funny dramatic moments.
I'm almost about to spoiler some scenes, but it will be best not to;-)

If you liked that one not only because of the bio-pic musical elemets, i recommend also : This is 40 or Stepbrothers

Always nice to re-discover a film from many years ago that barely remember and find out that it's excellent... I stuck on 'Three Kings', this afternoon, which I don't think I've watched since it came out in the 90's... bloody loved it, here's how you can make a cracking good action film that has interesting characters, a compelling storyline and a lot of humour and heart... anyone remember this one?

I remember that one but just as you said, i remember it barely;-) Funny thing is, that i recently thought about rewatching it. I remember that i thought of it as an unusual action-war-drama, with some special way of filming, i think this had colour-grading giving the image a subtle distorted look but i could be wrong here. A good reminder MR!

Do so, my friend, I really enjoyed it.  And the DVD actually mentions that 'colour-grading' thing with a caption at the start, presumably so people wouldn't take it back to the shop saying it was faulty!   ;D

This is football  -  much much more than a football programme.  1st episode shows how the game helped rebuild Rwanda after the civil war . Definitely worth a watch even if your not into football.

Think it's on Amazon prime ( officially at least) . 1st episode was excellent.  Over a million killed in 10 days in the Rwandan genocide.  How the game helped rebuild.  Lots of them are Liverpool fans as well .

You're right, sir, AP it is.  I will check it out.

Nearly at the end of season 4 of the wonderful 'Animal Kingdom', one of the best shows of recent years, a cracking good thriller show, if anyone fancies a new binge-watch, I'll point you in this direction, trailer for s1 here...

One of the Chosen vs. The Family
« Reply #2877 on: August 15, 2019, 08:23:46 AM »
Finished the "limited series" (what does that mean?) The Family on Netflix and so often to think about One of the Chosen

A very impressing and informative little series, dealing with a group of men who had the idea to find people, young men, to become god-chosen leaders in Washington. Of course this summary doesn't even hit the tip of the iceberg, what they brought to the light is astonishing.

I knew about the evangelical influence in those political areas, but i never heard about this group.

The series has 5 parts and the first is more about the author of a book about The Family, who also was a memeber for a short time.
But very early on i had to think about One of the Chosen, the story Justin tells there, how these things work out, the ambitions etc, and i wondered how the song would have become, when he would have described these kinds of "chosen ones", the western chosen evangelical ones instead of the eastern type of religios fanatism and blindness.
I think it would have gone more in the direction of Nothing Touches than the rhythmic, ritualised beat in One of the Chosen.

That does look like a good watch.

The expression 'limited series' seems to be exclusively related to US shows.  It seems to have a couple of meanings.  Firstly, that there's a limited number of episodes compared to many US shows that can have 20+ eps per year (Chernobyl, The Boys etc).  But the recent Twin Peaks continuation had over 20 eps and was also called a LS, so I think in that scenario it was supposed to be just a single new series and wouldn't continue... I dunno.
